I think there is a pragmatic element that sees annexation as beneficial for Canadians rather than continuing the current system which has only been fucking them over with oligopolies and shitty leadership. At least in America, they will have a say in who gets to lead the country rather than which fuckwit they'll send to Ottawa to forget about them. America will say no to uppity frenchmen, uppity natives, and others who rule Canada with an iron fist, whereas the overton window in an independent Canada will only shift further left, regardless of Trudeau's shitty leadership or Pierre's attempt at bringing back common sense. With annexation, Trump gets his "hard-workers", and ideally, the concentration of Indians frees Canada from insufferable levels as more of them flee the cold weather.

That being said, a lot of what has motivated pro-annexation sentiment is simply sucking off Donald Trump. Canada as a whole, pragmatically, cannot be the 51st state, there will have to be a division in the provinces and the voting rights of the territories will have to be revoked due to low population and existing effective governing models. But the prevailing '51st state' rhetoric only inhibits its growth due to it not seeming pragmatic.

Sometimes loving your country means playing the game of realpolitik and swallowing some pride to survive. Canada as a post-national state will only circle the drain with independence and could not defend itself, and by extension the continent from a hypothetical military invasion and CCP espionage.

We have high levels of legal gun ownership. Because the laws were fairly loose until recently, and because the border was easily traversed prior to 2001, it's hard to get an accurate estimate of the real number. We're estimated around the 4th 6th country per capita, mostly long guns.

The legal gun owners are white, so there is little crime committed by this cohort. In the city the high gun crime is (obviously) non-white.

and the guns used are about 85% pistols with barrels shorter than 105mm (4 inches), which aren't legal in Canada, and were smuggled over the border.
