No one should want to take that job at this point. It is a guarantee loss, no matter who it is.
Kim Campbell turned a similar situation into a money maker as a public speaker with the title "former Canadian Prime Minister."

That will be tempting for some slimeball or another.
How is proroguing the parliament instead of immediately holding a general election even allowed? The country has no leader, the cabinet is more or less absent, and what, the ruling party gets even more time to reorganize themselves instead of immediately facing the music? Even as a theoretical governor-general power, that shit is absurd.
It is too long but arguably better than letting the HoC sit with no real mandate to continue passing bills.

Simple. The founders of these systems never intended participants to act in an objectively subversive manner. So there is no mechanism for recourse to deal with it.

In the US an example of this would be to knowingly file invalid executive orders because you know the order will be upheld for a year or more until the courts eventually examine it and find it invalid. Which you knew from day one.

Something Biden and Obama heavily favored during their time in office.

If the other three party leaders form a coalition for one day. To end the prorogation of parliament and then call an election immediately is probably the best course of action. However, I doubt Jagmeet will go for it.

So in a big middle finger, Trudeau left the nation leaderless and without even a parliament, at one of the moments in its greatest political peril with the Trump tariffs.

And we wont have any chance of an election for months, so the liberals are effectively still in power till they inevitably lose, just trying to delay that day further

Fuck this man.
A failed state functioning like a failed state.

Do you guys remember in 2008 when Harper prorogued parliament for a whopping month (over the holidays) to prevent getting voted out of office (by a tenuous coalition with the still separatist Bloc) and everyone on the left were screeeeeeeaching at the top of their lungs for weeks? (until the Liberal party fell into disarray and performed an oil-swap of a leader change)

I dunno how they get away with the hypocrisy.

Harper was getting voted out from a coalition of parties - not for the election. It's a different situation for different purpose.

This prorogued parliament is stalling a non confidence vote in order to get organized before election despite MAJORITY demanding an election. This is fucking shameless as fuck.

Bro how do you think an opposition coalition gets into power???

First they vote no-confidence, then they hope the GG asks them to form government. Only works if there was a recent election, but even then if the PM suggests a new election the GG is supposed to just do whatever the PM says.

Coalition could have triggered an election but decided to just collapse the government and take over. No election. That sounds like corruption to me.

The King-Byng was kind of this. The Conservatives had won the 1925 election, but the Liberals used some friendly opposition MPs to remain in power. Later they were defeated in a non-confidence vote, and Byng offered the Cons the attempt to form a government rather than acceding to Mackenzie King's request to call an election. As the Cons had technically won the election. It became a thing and an election was called anyway.

It's a very grey area. With Harper the parties were pissed he was removing the vote subsidy. All official parties in Canada get subsidized per vote received. It's like 2 dollars per vote or something. They could technically have taken over the government if they agreed to form a coalition. However after prorogation cooler heads prevailed, and everyone realized that all three of those parties would have been massively punished at the polls.

So they can do it, but you would have no mandate to lead. Which is why in this case the most you could do is a single day coalition government and immediately call an election.

If the progressives didn't have double standards then they wouldn't have standards at all. Personally, I'm not angry at the Liberals for their blatant hypocrisy on prorogation. In fact, I'm happy that they're doing it because it will only increase the pressure before it blows up in their face. I said it on another thread, but Trudeau should've quit after the by-election loss in Toronto-St. Paul's. Now the party is a day late and a dollar short with their worst polling since 2011 and Trudeau's successor will be facing an inevitable defeat. Some are even saying the government could fall before the LPC elects a new leader because of the timetable for leadership contests.

Near the neighborhood I live in Canada, someone ended up shot and possibly murdered. Canada seems to have gun control laws similar to that of Mexico and that in turn stripped people's right of self defense. Yesterday while in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, I was almost shot and killed and I don't want to be in a terrible situation like that in Canada. With that being said, Canada is still an ideal place compared to Mexico when it comes to safety but still.

Calgary's Murder Rate is only 10% of that in Puerto Vallarta thankfully but I still noticed a concerning rise in Crime in Calgary. Mexico's crime makes it dangerous to walk alone at night when compared to Canada. Where as nothing happened to walking alone at night near Calgary, I was almost killed walking alone at night in Puerto Vallarta.

With that being said, despite this. Near Calgary, someone has asked me if I ever seen to person who murdered someone which was 2 months before the supposed murder took place near the neighborhood I live on. On top of that, there was recently a murderer on the loose in Calgary. It's getting to point where I am going to need to firearm to walk safely in Canada and I don't want it to get to that.
