Speaking of elections there's now a consistent rumour Sock Boy will finally appear sometime early this week and announce his resignation. Lines up with the other reporting on the Lib's national caucus meeting Wednesday so might be an interesting week.
At this point I don't give a fuck how he gets out of office as long as Trudeau fucks off I'll be satisfied

Take your bets on tomorrow, folks! I'm going with Trudeau prorogues parliament until October. Turning himself into a full-blown dictator until the election and fulfilling his duties as Fidel Castro's bastard son.
Doubt the GG would allow it. And I doubt Trudeau would ask it.

It's bad form to trigger an election during a leadership race -- if the Conservatives pull that they open up the opportunity for it to happen to them in the future so I really don't think they will.

That leaves the Liberals an incentive to drag it out as long as they can get away with. Trudeau resigns as Liberal leader but stays as Prime Minister, until a leadership race can finish in 3 months. That's my bet.

This situation is the product of the Liberals legislating their own party into a dictatorship where there's no recourse for the party to review and replace their leader. The Conservatives would have to make a colossal unforced error for this to be a practical precedent.

Well, that's the thing about the Green Party. They can promise you the moon and stars because there is no chance of them becoming a relevant force in politics for the foreseeable future. It is nothing more than a personal platform Elizabeth May she can strut around Ottawa like she's a VIP. Seriously. This woman is in love with the sound of her own voice and her press conferences only fuel her narcissism. Her ten-minute retirement was a disaster for the party because the only reason why people even paid attention to them was for May's drunken antics.
I want to see a drinking competition between Lizzie May and Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi is going to be drank under the table by May.

Maybe he'll have a "staged" attempt on his life, and thus he enables Emergency Powers to put Canada into Martial Law, like how Yoon tried to do in South Korea, and he goes full-on Caescascu. (spelling?) If that happens, I'm not sure if there will be a Christmas Day event like what happened to Caescascu in Romania.

He can't prorogue for 10 months. At best he'll have to reconvene sometime in like late March or early April because Parliament has to be in session to approve finances and the public sector's payroll has to be renewed by then or else there's going to be a US-style shutdown.
It is worth noting that a crown speech follows prorogation, which requires a confidence vote. Given that none of the opposition parties have a reason to prop him up and that he faces a full-on mutiny if he refuses to resign, it would not be a good idea unless he resigns so that the party can hold a leadership convention. Prorogation could also potentially exacerbate because an increasing number of Canadians want an election so the next government has a strong mandate to deal with the Orange Man. Denying the public this would turn even more Canadians against the Liberals.

Of course, Trudeau's in full-blown wounded narcissist mode. He would just as like destroy as much as he can to punish Canadians for rejecting his "benevolent" leadership.

Pretty much this. The Libs brought this situation on themselves - no other party is required to play nice just because they're now speed running the five stages of grief. Easy enough to keep Trudeau in for a while longer, hold an election, and then pick a new leader. Or find a willing Kim Campbell to serve as the sacrificial lamb. Nothing is going to save them and any delay in the inevitable will just make the upcoming electoral thrashing even worse for them.

it is a momentous day cucknadians, the "peoplekind not mankind" faggot may resign before the caucus meeting on Wednesday.
Praying he stays in as long as possible just to drag his party down further and further. It's not like whoever ends up holding the bag come election time will be any better so you might as well make the most embarrassing mess on the way out.

If parliament is prologued until the 24th of March then at least they can't make things worse, right?

If Trudeau keeps hard headed through this and refuses resignation, it will be the biggest mistake of his life by far. I think he might make a bitter resignation of "well it seems you've lost confidence in me even though x y z but I care about Canadians so I'll step down"
And thus, he resigns as I predicted.

He wants to spin this as "internal battles" as in he still feels confident in himself and thinks he did a great job but everyone else has lost confidence in him so THEY have prorogued parliament because THEY would not vote on the things he would want to pass. So he will politely step aside to allow them to elect a new party leader to save the Liberal party.

He regrets not actually changing the electoral system like they ran on in 2015 but didn't because THEY didn't vote with him.

He is super proud of losing the court battle that made us pay 20 billion to natives.

Chrystia is a bitch for not taking the position he offered during "a very important political time" as he really wanted her to choose to continue to be deputy prime minister but she chose not to do that for the country for private reasons he won't speak on.

He thinks Pierre is shit and doesn't have Canadian values as the "hard right" thinks small and is not ambitious on the world stage but there's definitely a Liberal leader who can beat him.

He won't call an election right now even though he is doing it for the political good of the Liberal party because "people need to calm down" and look at "working for the country again". By March, the polarization will die down from this reset because he is grounding them for acting like insolent children by creating chaotic situations in parliament but also removing himself because they hate him.

My thoughts on the resignation:

The normies are not going to take this well. There is a population of people who have some respect for the democratic process and "moral fairness" or "even playing grounds" or even just a respect that politics are sort of seperate from actual government to some degree.

But there is a larger population on both sides of the spectrum who just watched a man resign as leader of a country but then put Parliament on hold so his party can elect a new candidate. He is allowing a longer time frame than the election he called to re-elect himself for his party to fuck around and find a new guy as the entire country waits for an inevitable election while Donald Trump, the next President in 14 days, is on Twitter making threats and jokes about the country.

He just sank the Liberal party completely. No one should want to take that job at this point. It is a guarantee loss, no matter who it is. There is actually not a single person who could beat PP right now even though a good 25% of his potential voters don't actually like him or trust him. There is no one who did anything to make themselves be known to the vast majority except PP. They have no Bernie Sanders to pull out. They super absolutely cannot run Chrystia as that's literally a repeat of Kamala. Her only chance at success is four years from now. If there is a rogue Liberal who has enough wealth to weather an attempt to go completely against a lot of the parties current day values, now is the time to step up. But there is not because the party is full of retards who all blew smoke up Justin's ass until the very last moment when they realized he was taking the ship down with him.

Since nothing actually happens in this country, I assume we will be forced into this dog and pony show with the Liberals until the spring unless Trump does something that cannot be ignored. I appreciate that wildcard in our political process as the citizens are not made for revolutionary proceedings. It's more like when someone is in a state of panic and they need a slap across the face to wake up and realize this shit is real. Even though it will hurt in the short term, it's probably something that needs to be done because the whole send Parliament to the corner for a time out while the adults organize themselves is not the play to start 2025 with.

it isn't over yet. But it's begun

So in a big middle finger, Trudeau left the nation leaderless and without even a parliament, at one of the moments in its greatest political peril with the Trump tariffs.

And we wont have any chance of an election for months, so the liberals are effectively still in power till they inevitably lose, just trying to delay that day further

Fuck this man.

How is proroguing the parliament instead of immediately holding a general election even allowed? The country has no leader, the cabinet is more or less absent, and what, the ruling party gets even more time to reorganize themselves instead of immediately facing the music? Even as a theoretical governor-general power, that shit is absurd.
