NDP could have risen from this as the opposition party but they threw their towel with Liberal for too long and too many times. It's hard to make out any difference between them now.

Yeah pretty much this. La pure laine are outnumbered by Oogboo Haitien and Dirka Mohamdou and the later will never vote to separate bc they vote for the most gibs. 1995 was the best chance and it's NEVER going to even get a vote again.

What does an independent Quebec even look like?
Geographically, they're in an alright spot, bordering both Canada and the US. However, cutting off the maritime provinces would create massive friction with the rest of Canada unless those get annexed along with Quebec, an outcome that I assume must occur for this to make any sense. This now tosses a bunch of anglophones in the new separatist francophone state. That dumps about 3 million English speakers in the new nation of Quebec, which would still leave French as the dominant language for about 75% of the new nation.
Economically, I think an independent Quebec looks like a coastal maritime and resource extraction state without a ton of specialized industries. Ideally, it would end up looking like Norway with its sovereign fund. Their location makes trade with Europe a good venture with favorable shipping distance and strong cultural ties. They don't have remotely enough people living there to compete with the US for mainline industries, and they'll STILL be competing with old Canada, who must retain neutral access to the Saint Lawrence river to make this deal acceptable in the slightest. I foresee the refusal to speak English as the biggest impediment with trade with their immediate neighbors.
Population wise, the new Quebec will have about 12 million people. It's not a lot, but it's also not nothing. That's comparable to about the population of Georgia the US southeast but encompassing a way larger chunk of land. That said, most Canadians already live on the US border, so most of that land is just a resource extraction grid.

That more or less about right? Independent Quebec is basically just an east-west breakup of Canada that's behaviorally almost the exact same except they speak a language that none of their neighboring countries do.

Yes, there's been enough importation post-referendum, esp since Trudeau took his foot off the break, that a good chunk are either citizens or their pozzed Quebec-born offspring of voting age and will vote LPC or LPQ. Or even NDP, but never BQ and never 'Oui'.

E: this my read based on from when I lived there, friends who still live there, friends in the ROC who hate Quebec, the pozzed media, random internet sites in franglish and other sources. I don't live there now nor do I plan on ever going back, but I still keep up on things there because I do actually like Quebec and love that it pisses off the rest of Canada.

As the boomer die out separation should slowly erode to basically nothing in the next 50 years.

There's also another option in Canada retaining the south bank of the St. Lawrence - i.e. Sherbrooke and the Gaspé peninsula. Such an option makes it easier retaining Montreal given it's guaranteed the city won't vote in favour of independence and scoops up most of the remaining Anglo population as well. Equally as unlikely as Quebec annexing the Maritimes, but a further reason for showing why any independent Quebec just won't work. At least peacefully.

Unless Parliament is recalled early nothing is happening until probably early February. Parliament is now in winter recess scheduled to return on January 27th so it'll take the Libs holding an emergency session and then allowing the opposition to propose a bill to force anything right now. And that's before getting into prorogation which is not out of the cards.

When the conservatives split before (and then regrouped under Harper), BQ was the conservative party split in Quebec. While theyre French, Id rather see BQ and the Conservatives form a coalition for a full conservative Canada
 
Why would Trump annex Canada? He still gets all the cheap resources, energy, water from Canada without any annexation. The US has brain drained Canada as well. He does not need millions of Liberal and NDP voting blue haired woke mental patients.
