The scam involves the use of a black vehicle with a taxi sign on the roof and two fraudsters, one posing as a driver and one as a passenger.

Police say the fake customer pretends to have trouble paying their fare and approaches victims asking for their help to cover the cost. When a victim offers their card, the scammers then covertly swap it out for a bogus one.

Burnaby RCMP issued a warning about the scam last Friday, when the occupants of a black Hyundai Elantra employed the scheme against people at the city’s SFU campus.

Police said the scammers then made fraudulent purchases and withdrawals using the purloined cards.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but how do the victims not realize they're being handed back a fake card with the wrong number and name on it?

This is only some useless anecdote, I suppose, but it really seems like something from a sitcom instead of real life. Apparently we now have Mexican neighbours, and for hours they have been playing the loudest, most stereotypical mariachi music you can think of whilst cheering and yelling. It feels like they have just imported the entire country here. Most of them do not speak English, of course. I was just talking to my mother and she said 'is this why Donald Trump doesn't want them in?'. Incredible.

I think this is an underrated factor in our immigration woes. The Germans and Finns coming over 70 years ago had little choice but to get immersed in the culture of their adopted country, but Pajeet can bring Punjab with him on his phone, complete with the extended family group chat. Assimilation went from a real thing to boomercon cope in a decade.

The Germans and Finns coming over didn't have to go far to get immersed in the culture.

We're not talking the same thing when we're talking many current migrants. The liberal mindset has issues where they seem incapable to understand how vast some cultural differences can be, while simultaneously praising how different other cultures are from ours.

Its not that tough to climatize a German to Canadian culture, in fact its very, very easy and Germans probably give up more of their own culture to have to blend in (ie, we're far less anal about details and being on time).

A Finn doesn't have to go far to climatize.

When you are talking cultures which only just got electricity, still have child marriages, refused to ban child porn, and where unmarried women in the street are free real estate to get harassed at best, and sexually assaulted at worst- these are very, very different cultures.

We had a brief window where only the best, of the best, and likely the most liberal were emigrating to our country up till maybe the 2000s, and that's it. The people we are getting now may be good, may be bad- but if 2/10 are like the above, and you've imported 6 million, what do you think is going to happen.

Ill give you the controversial viewpoint to this forum in that I think we can accommodate radically different cultures, even said culture above- but it takes a very long time to climatize them, reeducate, and you can only do so in the most minimum in numbers. If you want to rehabilitate some Afghan refugees, a couple hundred maybe- sure, whatever. There's going to be issues, but embrace your white savior complex at that level if you want

If you want to import 6 million Afghans and plop them in the middle of some town in Canada, we have a problem.

The crux of the issue is though, why do you want to do this when we have potential other immigrants from other countries that are much closer to ours (CANZUK, revitalized NAFTA, hell just the UK or Eastern Europe, East Asia). Id even be willing to throw a bone to Latin America, at least they're Catholic. We literally had a points based immigration system that apparently we completely forgot about years ago.

And then further, before you even consider that- maybe look out for your own population first? But we don't, and we're stuck with literally the worst of all possibilities, yet. Mass migration from recently industrialized countries, with people with medieval moralities

Have you consider they do recognize it, and simply don't care because the new arrivals are all brown? Like the Irish being all anti-colonization when it was the British doing, but the moment its browns, its totally good and fine.

Most of those Irish were kicked out of Ireland (and Scots kicked out of the Highlands) and sent to colonize the harsh frontiers of America, Canada, NZ and Australia. Even South Africa.
 
The new GST break really annoys me. Half the stuff on the list shouldn't be taxed in the first place. Things that should be tax free such as winter clothing are not.
The only difference I notice is that take-out food is tax free, but where I live most restaurants don't charge tax if you pay in cash anyways (ifykyk).
What are you guys planning to buy with this GST break?
