When the country got tired of Trudeau Sr BS, they put the Progressive Conservatives & Brian Mulroney in power for the Reagan/Bush Sr era. Mulroney was an anglophone Irish Quebecker. Mulroney & the PCs were pro-business and generally socially progressive as far as conservatives go. After two terms, Mulroney resigned because the country was going to lynch him after two failed attempts to open the constitution, a new federal sales tax, massive debt lowering the nation's credit rating and a NAFTA agreement that hollowed out manufacturing.
it didn't help that Mulroney was enough of a red tory to let Kim Campbell, an even redder tory than that, ban a bunch of firearms and self-defense tools (including Mace, Pepper spray, brass knuckles, and tasers) and severely restrict others. Stupid orders-in-council.
Chretien & Martin's Liberal government by the early aughts was embroiled in corruption scandals where they were found out embezzling money in Quebec under the guise of fighting separatism. Chretien would step down and leave Martin to be party leader, leaving him to wear the decade of scandals & fatigue.
Chretien/Martin brought in the Long Gun registry, which Harper promised to get rid of, and he did. Many people who never would have voted Conservative at that time for any other reason, voted Conservative in droves because of that.
Trudeau, having won a second majority against weak Andrew Scheer in 2019, called an opportunistic snap election in fall 2021 while still doing full COVID tyranny and theatre. He hoped to extend his majority by another 2 years while polls were favourable after all the COVID gibs and before crushing inflation hit.
and NOW we know
WHY he called that snap election.
Trudeau and his insane Environmental Minister Steven Guilbeault continued to hike up the carbon tax on fuel and everything despite inflation being out of control.
i've noticed during Question Period that the Libs have stopped running that stupid "The Carbon Rebate puts MORE money back in the pockets of canadians" line. It's just not working, nor should it. Some
in the House needs to ask a question, "If the Carbon Rebate gives back SO much money, WHY are Canadian families STILL having to go to food banks?!"
Trudeau Jr, however, literally has nothing. Hes a husk, and a narcissist, and its honestly sad that he came from that dynasty.

the beauty of it is she doesn't even have to be Canadian. She lived in Montreal for a time as a kid; she could just move up here and run for leader of the Liberal party. She'd prolly get in, too.
Worst part is when Pierre axes the tax, prices won't go down because corporations will just bank the extra profit they earn since they know Canadians will accept the already high prices.
Uh no, that's not how prices work. That's
never been how prices work. Any time cuts in taxes have been, prices go down. When Alberta cut their fuel excise tax, prices went down. They pretty much HAD to! The gas companies would have had a full-blown riot on their hands, and the Alberta government at their door.
