Liberal bitch Mark Mendicino got spat on in public the other day. I mean, if you're going to catch an assault charge, may as well knock his fucking teeth out. Every Liberal MP who ever served in the Trudeau era needs to be jailed or afraid for the rest of their lives.

Most people won't convict you for spitting on a politician. You would need to find 12 people who have never had a problem with a politician to convict. Being a menace and beating people in public. That's a different story.

Edit: I just learned you guys don't get public defenders. So physical unfixable injury is really your only recourse against political people, given they will bankrupt you.

Fun fact if .01% of people in the U.S. started commiting petty crimes against politicians and federal institutions, the public defender pool would become depleted rapidly. Courts would grind to a halt, and the criminal justice system would fail. You don't even have to worry about showing up to court. They do zoom meetings now.

I saw his speech and it's good to know that he's still the same narcissistic sack of toxic waste he was as mayor. If only he had been as diligent in infrastructure inspections as he was in mugging for the cameras, then perhaps we wouldn't have had that rupture.

I would say our "Duty Counsel" is a rough equivalent to public defenders, but there is also a system for indigent defendants called Legal Aide, to allow more options in their legal representation. Anyone can avail themself to the service of duty counsel, although people who can afford to will eventually have to hire their own attorney.
Duty Counsel is mostly used before someone has hired an attorney, either with their own money, or with Legal Aide funding. They usually handle first appearances, uncontested bail hearings, or to ask for remanded court dates and other simple tasks, allowing sessions to flow smoothly (rather than having every defendant fumble through the process).
They can be used through an entire case if the defendant earns below a certain threshold, and some people do this for minor cases. However, it may not be the same Duty Counsel available for each appearance, and they're overworked, so it is wise for the accused to make use of Legal Aide if they do qualify. Duty Counsel are drawn from a pool of local lawyers and from what I understand, novice lawyers are required to do a certain number of hours duty counsel. So more often than not, Duty Counsel are inexperienced lawyers, or those with poor reputations, who are unable to acquire a full work load.

I would caution against underestimating Nenshi(t). He was able to win elections in Calgary by organizing the ethnic/religious vote in the Northeast and will do so again in 2027 as the city will be the battleground for the next election. That is not even taking into account the riff-raff coming in from British Columbia and Ontario who come for economic reasons, but bring the destructive policies that devastated their provinces with them.

In case people aren't following, the by-election in Toronto St. Paul's is in the counting phase. What's notable is it's a deep-red riding. Like, Marianas Trench deep. Latte-sipping, granola-crunching, purple-haired deep. Even when Ignatieff tanked the LPC, they still won the riding by eight percent.

Currently they're leading the CPC by a mere 5%. They'll almost certainly win a Pyrrhic victory, but this fucking disastrous- even in the worst spanking in living memory, they did better. It's like the CPC winning Battle River-Crowfoot riding in rural redneck Alberta by only 5%.

They had pretty much every liberal cabinet minister out to drag it over the finish line.

In some ways this is ok. A loss might have meant Trudeau steps down, and some other hack could try to distract people… this way Justin can be the face of failure when the election actually happens.

Rate me rainbows, but everyone in the LPC other than terminal narcissists like Justin have to be shitting themselves. Barely winning an inner-city Toronto riding by the skin of their teeth is a portent of doom. As I post this, the margin has decreased to about 4%. Half the margin of the worst LPC failure in decades. At risk of being a broken record, if anything counts as a 'Pyrrhic victory' in Canadian politics, this is it.

I’ve been saying it, Trudy’s only real hope of clinging onto the PM’s office would be if he managed to keep the Panhandle. If the LPC are nearly losing in their strongholds in the Panhandle, it bodes ill for what the election will look like if Trudy and his Yes Men really put it off another year.

My fellow Leafs may largely suck, but under Trudy it’s like watching a faulty pressure cooker - eventually somethings going to blow.
