I just got off the phone with a close family member and accidentally went on a 30 minute rant that was a version of this lol.

She kept bringing up how terrible it is that Alberta is allowing some private health clinics to open up in public hospitals to offer some services (joint replacements etc) for cash, while maintaining a publicly funded option. “It’s just not fair that anyone has to pay out of pocket!”

I got a little unhinged at this point, admittedly. I said “we were just complaining about how the boomers are sitting on all this wealth, and now they are heading into non-tax-contributing status so fucking rights the ones with cash should be able to pay out of pocket. Let the poors, unfortunately, wait in line.”

The Canadian liberal is so ignorant. She thinks Europe and Australia have the same system as us. When I told her all of these other countries also have private systems alongside their public services she had no idea. No idea that ours is the most socialist system, which is partially why it’s failing so hard.

When we talked about the federal election she said she couldn’t vote for a party that would take away rights from her gay son, and I kind of lost my shit. “WHAT RIGHTS? WITH THE ECONOMY IMPLODING WHAT POLICY IS BEING PROPOSED THAT WOULD TAKE AWAY YOUR GAY SON’S ANYTHING?” and she talked about how now in Alberta the Gay Straight Alliances in schools have to notify parents and how awful that is for abused kids and kiwis I think I have yet another family member not speaking to me. Edit: I said “imagine your kids school has a European History club, where the nazi teacher just chats with the teens about how many Jews actually died and how the bankers are running things and let’s watch some Andrew Tate videos- and you don’t need to get notified” and that’s when she started crying and telling me BEING GAY IS NOT A CHOICE and I didn’t say anything about overbearing mothers and weak fathers, as she is currently going through a divorce which I am sure is UNRELATED.
