It's a game theory tactic. The point is to leave the threat of the tariff war tit-for-tat spiralling out of control and leaving both countries in economic ruin.

Lol yeah but as many have pointed out, it's much easier for the US to leave Canada in economic ruin than vice versa. I don't even know if we have any way of threatening America.

I mean maybe? They don't need us. But in pockets of the US exports to Canada are a big business. How much does it need to impact some critical voter base for it to change US policy?
