Trackside maintenance is great in the prairies. Lots of small branch lines need servicing, although you end up having to do a lot of contract-based work as well. Lot of really old guys in that position, too - One maintenance of way crew I dumped ballast(the gravel around train tracks) for had some 70 year-olds keeping pace with the 20 year-olds.
I would recommend against it in BC unless you're in the interior because again, the directional running zones exist.
Because CN's lines from Van to the interior are more level, CP and CN have an agreement in the region to run all loaded trains through CN's track, while all unloaded trains run through CP's track. Or something like that. The closest I get to CN is an interlocking on one of our dogshit branch lines.
Multiple tracks of signaled track means you could be working on a track in between two others and constantly have to watch out for fast-freight trains moving at speed. Step too far back and you might just risk tripping and falling in front of a 60 mile-an-hour train.
It's not a bad job though, I just wouldn't necessarily advise doing it in BC. Carmen and Diesel Dogs are going to be in more demand because it's a turn point for the majority of grain and intermodal freight on the coast-to-coast networks, meaning that it theoretically is an important place to stop and check before the long trek to Vaughan or wherever the hell.

In the Middle-East, Indians are usually employed for the worse jobs, as Indians are treated as slaves there, they're a dime in a dozen.

The wealthy Arabs and Jews will often hire as much as they can afford Arabs, Jews, and Europeans, while Filipinos are the affordable alternative.

Canada is upside down clown country where Europeans have been brow beaten into putting Indians in a pedestal.

Talk to any wealthy Jewish or Arab family, they're not employing Indians.
