Some good news.

A group representing almost 100 of Canada’s universities is warning the impact from the federal government’s cap on international students will be “far greater” than what Ottawa aimed for.

Gabriel Miller, president of Universities Canada, told Global News when the schools officially finish counting how many students have arrived and enrolled, there will be at least a 45 per cent drop of international students. The final tally will be reported in October.

“There’s every possibility that it’s going to be even worse than we fear,” he said in an interview Saturday. “But it’s important to note that we’re already in territory that no one anticipated and that needs to set off a big alarm bell in Ottawa that we need to start turning this around right away.

Miller said Universities Canada is concerned over the impact the cap could have on future enrolment, saying international students are a “huge asset” to schools. He said they “enrich the educational experience,” as well as contribute funds to provide education to Canadians and are economic contributors to the country.

You see, the colleges absolutely must do their part to turn you into an impoverished minority in your own country. If they didn't, they might make less money!

I hate university administrations so much, particularly because I used to be employed by one. I think it's a pretty safe bet to say there isn't a single big university—especially in this country—that is properly managed by competent people.

They're fucking parasites that get dollar signs in their eyes and jump at any potential revenue stream so they can waste the money on more useless programs, more unnecessary engineering buildings, or bigger salaries and bonuses. God knows they won't put a single penny towards improving the lives of their students and faculty; only improving their public image and projecting success to secure even more funding.

Diploma mill or not, universities and colleges have been advertising that the only way to get forward in life is through university programs- when since 2008 we have had massive underemployment in the economy and maybe 1/10th of graduates can find a job in their field, even within STEM subjects. Its just getting worse and worse as time goes on even past this, so so many young men I know of just don't care about going to university, and more young women do for subjects such as architecture or psychology and wind up working in HR or marketing instead.

The irony is that we also have a skills gap, because people don't really want to train people from college or university anymore;

but either way I digress.

These colleges and universities encouraged students to go to school for years for jobs that wern't there. When students no longer were coming, being the business that they are, they extended to ponzi scheme to the third world.

It will blow up someday in their faces, because they cant keep selling a dream that no longer exists, and I hope that day is soon.

Sikh man was shaved without consent at Brampton hospital: complaint

An Ontario hospital network says it will conduct an "extensive review" of an incident in which an elderly Sikh patient was shaved last month without permission from him or his family and in violation of his religious principles.

Kaler had never shaved or cut his beard in his life before this incident, the organization said.

Jasjit Dhaliwal, Kaler's son-in-law, said his father-in-law fell down about 15 steps onto a hard floor around July 26, leaving him unconscious.

EXCLUSIVE: Ontario man with massive gapping hole on the side of his face struggles to get prompt healthcare in the province.

Graham Reid is a 67-year-old retired resident of Waterloo, Ontario, who finds himself grappling with the challenges of the province's deteriorating healthcare system. The Canadian Independent interviewed Mr. Reid and his wife, Ruby, to share their story.

Nearly two years ago, Graham noticed a small bump on the right side of his face, which he initially thought might be an ingrown hair. However, it progressively grew larger in the subsequent months. In July 2023, Graham visited his doctor, who referred him to a dermatologist. Unfortunately, the earliest available appointment was not until June of the following year.

Within a month or two, the bump developed into a significant hole on the right side of Graham's face. Concerned about the worsening condition, Graham went to the hospital, visiting several different emergency rooms and consulting multiple doctors over the months. Unfortunately, he was consistently advised to follow up with the dermatologist.

It wasn't until an emergency doctor in Tilsonburg examined Graham's face and promptly identified it as cancer that the situation took a different turn. A biopsy confirmed the cancer diagnosis, and Graham returned home, awaiting a scheduled day for surgical removal. Despite being assigned a surgery date of January 4, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital in Kitchener, Graham was disappointed to receive news from the hospital that, due to staffing issues, they would be unable to perform the surgery.

Graham faces uncertainty regarding the rescheduling of his surgery, reflecting the broader challenges many Ontarians encounter within the healthcare system. He emphasizes that he is not alone in facing healthcare issues and calls for immediate changes including government intervention.

I've read stories like the above for the past 20 years. People fall through the cracks but its not a new problem.

There are tricks to accessing healthcare, like for a start when you get referred to a specialist and it is a long way out you can call back to ask if any openings came up due to a cancellation. I've used this a few times to turn a long wait into a few weeks. Another is to opportunistically access diagnostic imaging -- complain about the right kind of head pain and most doctors will refer you for a CT scan which is effectively a cancer screen.

If you go to an emergency room make sure you choose the right hospital because some are much busier than others. In my area there are 4 options, 1 is notorious for extremely long waits. If you have kids remember that basic emergency room care can be done at non-children's hospitals which are much less busy.

You have to learn to navigate this stuff and not just shrug your shoulders and hope for the best.
