(Reuters) - Canada has deported hundreds of people to countries designated too dangerous for civilians, with more than half of those people being sent back to Iraq, according to government data obtained by Reuters.

The spike in deportations comes as Canada faces a record number of migrants and is on track to have the most refugee claims in more than a decade. That has left the country scrambling to cope with the influx of asylum seekers, many crossing the U.S. border illegally.

Between January 2014 and Sept. 6, 2017, Canada sent 249 people to 11 countries for which the government had suspended or deferred deportations because of dangers to civilians.

That includes 134 people to Iraq, 62 to the Democratic Republic of Congo and 43 to Afghanistan, the data shows.

The number of Iraq deportations increased from 22 in 2014 to 51 in 2016 and stands at 35 so far this year.

"The decision to remove someone from Canada is not taken lightly," Canada Border Services Agency spokeswoman Patrizia Giolti wrote in an email.

"Everyone ordered removed from Canada is entitled to due process before the law, and all removal orders are subject to various levels of appeal."

The Canada Council for Refugees has said existing avenues of appeal are too limited, leaving little recourse for people facing deportation to dangerous countries.

Canada can deport anyone who is not a citizen, for reasons including criminality, exhausting attempts to obtain permanent residency and non-compliance with immigration laws.

The federal government has suspension or deferral designations for countries or regions deemed dangerous but may still deport people to them because of criminality, security risks or human rights violations.

The United Nations' High Commission on Refugees recommends states refrain from deporting people to Iraq because of the human rights situation and the conflict there, said Jean-Nicholas Beuze, the organization's Canadian representative. But some regions, such as Kurdistan, are safer, he added.

"The responsibility is on the state sending people back to those countries to make sure ... that those people will not become internally displaced within their own country and dependent on humanitarian aid," Beuze said.

In July, a U.S. judge temporarily blocked the deportation of more than 1,400 Iraqis, many with criminal charges or convictions. They had claimed they would face death or persecution if they return to their home country because they belonged to minority groups, including Chaldean Catholics, Sunni Muslims or Iraqi Kurds.

The fact that you come from a shithole country doesn't give you a legal right to move to one of the best. An asylum claim must be based on well-founded fear personal to you, not just the fact that it's generally a shithole where you live. I.e. you're a Shi'ite Muslim and they're killing all the Muslims where you live, you're a Coptic Christian and ISIS is murdering and raping Coptic Christians, you were of the opposing political party that's now all being rounded up and shot, etc.

Even then, if you personally participated in the genocide, or whatever, you're still excludable.

Also, almost by definition, if you're seeking asylum, you're either already deportable or deportable by a date in the near future. If you were allowed to stay legally, you wouldn't even need to seek refugee status.

You might be surprised, but Canada's immigration policies are not all that much different than those in the U.S.

They've moved the goalposts of asylum claims being based on personal fears for your life to "I don't get free shit back home" in most places.
Their logic is literally "I don't live in a nice enough house... can I come to yours and take it over? No? Then it's your job to not only remove me, but see to it that I live in a good house in the future too." If we put that into the context of private/rental housing, every normal country has laws to stop that kind of stuff and actively enforces them. If we didn't, the homeless wouldn't be homeless.

Moving to a better country than the one you previously fucked up and demanding to be taken care of... only something as useless, outdated and retarded as the UN could come up with that shit.

Those places are full of idiots and will soon be full of parasites with absolutely nothing to contribute.

It's just the UN, nobody gives a fuck what they think.

I think when Canada can do better then 249, I'll be impressed. It's like they're currently not even trying or something ;)

Well think about it this way, that's 249 less trucks of peace that Canada has to worry about.

DMC is a hell hole. Congolese don't respect their own women enough not to rape them constantly. So I seriously doubt they'd do any differently with Canadian women. That's 62 less rapists that Canada has to worry about. Although if any of them are women the SJWs should be screeching about sending them back to rapeland where they will do most of the farm work with little of the benefit and probably end up dumped in a ditch somewhere.
