I purchased two new Leviton electrical outlets with USB for my bedroom, I want to replace an existing outlet and add another outlet next to it, can I install them myself or must the work be carried out by a professional?
The necessary tools are at hand, as are wire and wire-nuts, I want to do the work myself but mom insists I hire a professional.

Yeah. Turn off the breaker like others said and pick up a cheapo non-contact voltage tester. Even with the breaker off you don't know what the electricians did inside the box. It's always better to be safe when it comes to electricity. Getting electrocuted sucks.

I was expecting this to end in a shitshow where 5 people to come out and negrate rozzy as they tell him to slather water on his hand and touch a live outlet.

It does make great Jewtube videos though.

Yeah but he's smart about the way he gets electrocuted. Except for that Jacob's ladder video, he did almost die there. I end up getting electrocuted in dumb shitty ways like brushing up against both lives in a 240v circuit while having one hand on a big piece of metal. That one sucked. Felt it go right through me.

How often do people in electrical works get electrocuted?

Check with your insurance policy, it's an easy job that's near impossible to fuck up but insurance might try to fuck you if you somehow manage to.

Once is normally enough

I dunno. I'm not an electrician. I work around them and with them a lot though. I've seen it happen a few times. I saw one guy short out a panel and get a pretty good arc in front of his face. One time an electrician we were working with turned the breaker on when he was finished his shit, instead of leaving it off until we were done, like every other electrician does, I went to cut a wire to wire it in on my side of the job and my side cutters blew up in my hand. Well, not entirely but the blades got a big hole in them and they were garbage after.
