I notice there hasn't been a thread in media yet for CampusReform since they bring out the best in social justice warriors, uneducated and lolcows alike. This is also for articles of and covering of Campus Craziness about.
Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/CampusReform
It's interesting to see their videos time to time again whenever, also any news relating to campus craziness outside CampusReform will be discussed in this thread as well. A containment for all college university/campus news.

I don't know if it's really related, but I started college recently and had some related experiences
When I went through freshman orientation over the summer, the guy leading it introduced himself by saying "My name is X and I use he/him pronouns". He had a fucking beard, was tall, and had a deep voice. The orientation leaders also did skits on 'online harassment' and some TV game show parody on the topic of consent.

Before the first day of class there was a gathering at the housing building with free food and shit so I went. My roommate was with me and made me go into this picture booth where you could hold signs and put on silly costume accessories. Seemed okay enough, just typical cheesy fun but of course the signs read "Black Lives Matter", "Don't Assume Someone's Gender", ect. My roommate chose one that said "if you don't have to think about it, it's a privilege". Luckily I found one with something innocent like "Music is my life" or some shit. It was bizarre. If I hadn't experienced it myself, I wouldn't believe this had happened honestly so I don't think you guys will either.

Idk about racist, but they are definitely overpriced. If I'm paying $4 for a medium drink it sure as shit better get me drunk.

More on topic, I think a lot of this "All the millennials are crazy and dumb xD" stuff gets really overblown. Yes, a lot of college kids are morons and do/say really stupid shit all the time. But I'm not sure this is all that surprising; I'm fairly confident 19 year olds have always done and said stupid shit. The difference is, imo, the social media platform they have to spew their shit out all across the internet.

Even in cases where the older folks running the college seem to acquiesce to the stupidity, I think we overblow things a lot of the time. For instance, trigger warning are typically never really "required". What usually happens is they might suggest you use them if you think the course material is offensive or something.

I actually am a grad student, so I teach college classes about once a year. I've actually used trigger warnings on my syllabi before, but not labeled as such. As in, "In this course we will be discussing important concepts that some folks may find disturbing, such as X, Y, and Z." Again, I don't label this as a trigger warning; I just put it in the section where I give a rundown of what the course covers.

Basically, I just do it as a courtesy to inform people upfront about what we are going to discuss in the course. If they are super triggered (or just flatly uninterested) in what we will be thinking about in class each week, I'd rather they figure that out up front and drop. This seems to be a pretty common rationale used by professors and other grad students, in my own experience.

You see I am ok with that if it's a legitimately disturbing topic or something that most people would find repulsive i.e. trauma injuries taken by EMT's, or in a warzone an such like but "Trigger warning - this will contain graphic descriptions of mathematics written by a white man who we suspect was CIS and enjoyed bacon" is just absurd.

The thing is while the media does overblow this crap they don't have to by much, and sadly it's happening at a time where everyone particularly the most loud and obnoxious one's have multiple channels of getting there voices heard, no matter what the subject and feel they have the right to demand to be taken seriously over trival issues.

In the past let's say the 60's the hippie community was limited to how far they could spread a particular message, and it only really got circulated in there group so a idea like trigger warnings wouldn't have gotten all that far before people laughed it off and went off to smoke some pot and listened to the grateful dead. these idiots can now also easily find kindred spirits that they can form little circle jerk communities and feed there ego's in way's that just where not possible 20 years ago.

This would be absurd, but I've personally never seen anything like that. What I've seen is stuff like rape, atrocities, mutilated bodies, or hot button stuff people might get pissed off at each other over in class discussion like abortion.

But yeah if there are actually people using warnings like the one you mentioned, then that is an obvious problem

Sorry I was hamming it up a little to point out the absurdity of some of the requests, but the shocking thing is not by much.

Through my family I'm fairly well acquainted with a few uni professors and they have told me just how asinine some of the demands are that are getting backed up by the NUS (national union of students), one recent demand that was made an shut down really quick was to have trigger warnings on any books that where written about the slave tradeby white males.... yea considering my towns history that went down well as they also wanted other things pointed out or removed from the official history of the founders of Liverpool uni.

If it's a state/federal funded university, and they allow "Black Lives Matter" in similar locations, they have grounds for a First Amendment lawsuit. If the banner was somewhere banners generally aren't allowed, though, probably not. The issue is whether it's viewpoint discrimination, which state institutions are not allowed to engage in.

I've been out of the loop when it comes to this, but can someone explain to me how college kids these days have the time and energy to throw all these tantrums?

Because the ones doing that are in worthless majors where you don't have to study since you're only graded on whether you agree with a bunch of bullshit and hate white people enough.

There were several student groups that participated in the mizzou fiasco who felt they should get passing grades for the classes they missed while holding there "fuck whitey" protests.
