i live in Denmark and here we usually buy from Facebook market place and used car dealers, our prices are 3 times as much than the US.

buying new cars are not something you should, sins they drop a lot off value as soon as you drive it out off the dealership. and here when they drop they drop a lot, i bought a new car 3 years ago and sold it not to long ago i lost 56% from they original price.

That's rather unusual behavior. If you're buying a new car, it's typically because you intend on keeping it for a long time and don't want prior owners. Your typical newish used car comes from leases.

It's actually pretty wild how much he completely fucked younger people's ability to own such an essential part of life and barely anyone ever mentions it. My first car cost $500, my second car was about 2.5k, my 3rd was about 1200 etc. Sure the AC went out on all of them almost immediately, oil leaks all that shit but it was normal, everyone I know had a starter car that was a piece of shit unless their parents were rich. As much as I don't like zoomers/gen alpha faggots I do understand they've been dealt a pretty strange shitty hand in life.

I would have some pretty big doubts about a modern vehicle lasting more than 5 years without a serious/expensive problem. Every single person I know with a vehicle made within the last 5 years has already had to make multiple trips for repairs, some of them pretty major, all from random failures. I'm talking shit like transmission problems, major electrical failures, steering system failures and other problems that should not be occuring on fairly new, low mileage vehicles.

I'm in the market for a newish, used economy car that I can run up the miles on. Preferably a Corolla or a Mazda3. Has anyone had any luck with buying from rental car companies? Enterprise seems to have reasonable prices and doesn't seem to charge a ridiculous premium on the "reliable brands". Not having to deal with typical dealer BS seems to be an additional plus.

The sentiment seems to be split between "people drive rental cars like shit" and "people treat rental cars better than their own"

If you can’t afford a new Mercedes you can’t afford a used one. I am saying this as a BMW owner. (Same shit).

If you know of a good independent BMW or Mercedes specialist garage, you will be fine.

My local BMW specialist is always busy (I have to wait 2 to 3 weeks to get a service booked, but they hold back some slots to cater for emergency jobs), and their work is excellent. They have all the official BMWdiagnostic machines (at least for my 23 year old 535). Their hourly labour rate is 60% less than the main dealer,

Look around for local recommendations for garages and mechanics, you will find one or two.

You can run a champagne car on lemonade money (albeit artisan, hand squeezed lemonade).

-Don’t buy any Nissan with a CVT
-Don’t buy the first year after a refresh (new body/engine/etc)
-Research your car look at history of recalls

I own a 25 Prius Prime and I did not listen to the first year advice of myself however battery has an insane warranty and it’s a Toyota

Is this why marketplace was flooded with late 2000's - early 2010's Altimas for like 2000 leaf bux last time I was looking for a vehicle?

I've been pretty happy with the Nissan Titan. It does not have a CVT transmission. I believe it's a 5-speed automatic. It's probably the most comfortable truck I've ever driven though. It doesn't even feel like driving a truck. It's got some good power to it too. I've had it fully loaded and you barely notice any weight. I don't understand why they're not more popular. I've driven American trucks from the same year and they're fucking garbage by comparison. They're also like half the price of Toyotas but can get the same kind of mileage if you look after them.

I had one of the early fuel injected F150's, the first system they used. I think it was only '87 and '88 that used it but it was prone to clogging and causing issues. I think by '89 they'd fixed most of the issues. I can't really remember now, this was several years ago I looked into all of it.

Yeah this is good advice. There's been a few vehicles I've been interested in before only to look them up and see some kind of nasty recall for that year.

I dunno. I think with Toyotas it really depends on the model and year of vehicle as to whether you're getting quality or garbage. I had a Camry blow an engine at just under 200,000km. When I started looking it up I found a bunch of old forum posts and some old youtube videos of people who had a Camry blow an engine around 200,000km. I've also personally seen more than you'd expect 97-99 Camries with blown engines for sale. To be fair though, I managed to drive it home over 100km with a blown engine. Like it sounded like there was someone inside it slamming with a sledgehammer and then at one point it started squealing and screaming and making horrible noises. I had to go up several long steep hills I thought for sure was gonna do me in. But it fucking chugged along. It was probably one of the more scary drives I've had to make.

Any major tech change will be with its challenges. And the Titans are great looking trucks I think they just got a bad rap with the Nissan name, the V8 Cummins XD was just a garbage fire unfortunately. But I hear they’re not bad engines if you do maintenance on them and change a few parts

Only reason I drive a Prius is save money on gas. I drive a 30 min commute one way and I’m solo both ways so why not save gas money and maintenance, plus the boost to 10 year 150K miles battery warranty is what pushed me over the edge to trade in my 2005 prius with 209K on the clock

Not outside of EU... and when dealer rate is $400/hr and your guys charges $180 for literally all jobs that need hours poured in replacing all the hot plastic shit parts that need to be metal.... FFS car has 2 batteries you gotta think about and either one can majorly start fucking you if not the plastic pieces in the key areas of the cooling system. Source: had a mate who was into euros and it was painful to watch him keep on digging in his 04 chasing down random shit.
