I fucking love the how the fighting feels. Its not that challenging even before you unlock more moves, but the animations and the way NPCs have their own moves and styles, some shared across their cliques, is a detail I really appreciate.

You can tell whoever was animating knew their shit. The way the preps have that bouncy stance and that slick bobbing and weaving movement, yet of course being boxers they have only 1 kick animation which is really slow and sloppy. For some reason the greasers lean heavily in to muay thai, with mid range knees and kicks aplenty, there's even a 720 kick one of them throws that's a little too comical tbh. I guess the more appropriate greaser style of using a switchblade wouldn't fly so they just had to give them something.

I adore Jimmy's roundhouse kick and side kick animations. He throws them the same way a talented amateur with poor flexibility would do, keeping his hips more forward facing on the roundhouse and bringing his foot upwards diagonally, and then with the side kick he turns and faces away from his target as he throws, making it almost resemble a donkey kick. It's very realistic, that is how you have to do them if you haven't spent a very long time stretching and practicing.

There's a fantastic fighting game hidden in Bully, if only it wasn't so easy.

More than almost any other game I wanted a sequel to Bully. I sort of cooled to the idea recently however since they'd almost certainly ruin it these days. The game is transgressive in ways that would be too much for the delicate constitutions of people today and I'm not just talking about SJWs. It just wouldn't be the same if they stripped these elements out. Just have to accept that somethings were the product of their time and cannot be replicated anymore.

Can we get @Jimmy Hopkins in here?
I'm still alive. Sorry for not replying. I haven't been visiting the site much lately but been keeping up on the MATI podcasts. Got this thread on my watch list now though.

It's sad really, I loved his content when I was young and I admire his commitment to Bully as a whole, I figured he would move on years later
SWEGTAs newest videos have actually been really good imo. You're absolutely right though he has certainly crossed the lolcow line many times. His tranny freak friends on the channel The Geek Room, formerly Underhaven are quite the cows as well. SWEGTA used to be a staple of the channel but dipped out shortly before Jay trooned out. Someone made an Underhaven thread years ago but it never really took off and evolved into an exposé about the dipshit OP.

This went under the radar in recent weeks, but it looks like Rockstar remembered that Bully still exists and updated the Android version of the game to make it playable again.

For those unaware, the Bully: Anniversary Edition on Google Play Store has been broken for some time now, meaning that even if you purchased it there was no guarantee it would even let you load the game (while Rockstar still made it available for purchase regardless). But now they've since patched this (not sure on iOS versions), making it not only playable for Android users, but they've also added a new boot screen to offer a 30-minute free trial to the game, an option to purchase the full game as normal, or the ability to login through a GTA+ subscription.

If like me you once purchased the game via the Play Store, you now have to submit a ticket with evidence that you purchased it and they will unlock it for you to play again.

It isn't exactly any sequel news, but it at least shows that Rockstar remember that Bully exists and have put support into making it accessible again (even if it is just to support their GTA+ subscription service). With the GTA6 news recently I presume there will be a bump in their GTA+ subscriptions and a little more attention will go the way of Bully hopefully.

So what's the best way to play Bully these days? I have the Scholarship edition on Steam but from what I understand it has some issues. Does it have some kind of fan project to fix it?

Yeah. But was taken down little later when Deflective Edition of the 3d GTA trilogy was dropped.
Called Bully: Definitive Edition (which is lmao).
I have backups in my PC. Sizes are between 600mb-1.8gb. still working with just copy/pasting into root folder.
EDIT: Forgot to mention those fan projects have other fixes to other R* games.

"the chant" which I'm sure none of you have heard of
i got that on sale for like 5 bucks or something and, assuming we're talking about the same game, its like if they tried to make alan wake inspired by midsommar and hereditary instead of stephen king. at least, from the somewhat brief time i had played it

Yea that sounds like the one, its a weird one.

Dan Houser had an interview with IGN earlier today. One of the questions was about Bully 2's cancellation.

As corroborated before but now officially confirmed, Houser stated that Bully 2 was canned due to "bandwidth reasons." They were stretched thin back then. Now with GTA 6 and GTA Online taking up all of R*'s resources, it's highly unlikely that Bully 2 would see the light of day anytime soon.

i mean once 6 comes out, there is a plausibility for a bully 2, but just about as much plausibility for another midnight club or manhunt game or some sequel to la noire: theoretically, but dont count on it

People were saying that for GTA5's launch too though, and they've spent the last 10+ years putting all their resources into milking that instead of working on a Bully return. Same will go for 6 sadly.
R* has lost their way since the 7th generation of consoles, namely from the runaway success of GTA V. Now, they expect ALL the money and more for all their projects. Bully 2 does not have a chance to have the same expected success as GTA 6 or V.

Man, I've got fond memories of fucking around in Midnight Club 3. Car customization alone was ridiculous and fun.

I don't understand how a company like R* that has been raking in the cash with GTAO since 2013, plus RDR2, plus putting out GTA5 and RDR2 out on multiple platforms (PS3, PS4, PS5, PC, and whatever versions are out for XBox) but only have the cash or capitol or resources to work on one game at a time. Surely they have the ability to work on multiple projects beyond the next big game that won't come out for the better part of a decade AND the latest GTAO add on. Can someone explain it to me why they can't work on a Bully, a RDR, a GTA, AND something else all at once?

They probably believe they will make more money on Day 1 of a GTA6 DLC than they would with an entire Bully 2 release.

That being said, they went out of their way to make RDR2 and port a few games over to the Switch in that time, so it's not like they don't care about old titles. Maybe they just don't want to deal with the inevitable backlash a Bully 2 would bring given how delicate and trigger-happy today's world is.

I saw a few people discussing having Bully 2 focus more on Jimmy's life in college and I hate it. In my opinion a sequel should continue parodying middleschool/highschool life, unless they want to do more mature content that would require a college setting. Also they should focus on a new character's story with maybe some references to the first game. Changing the characters helps keep things fresh and interesting.
