Just played it because of your comment, and I gotta agree: it's good. Maybe a bit janky, but it's built with messing around in mind, which is very amazing to see again in a game.
Also the movement is insane. Developers clearly expect people to break the game.
There's not much gameplay online, but in this you'll see that even if I were to pull off all the tricks I shoot for, I probably wouldn't have hit the par time. The top leaderboard time for this level is 20 seconds.
Maybe Ulillillia will come back.

I don't know much about the va for bubsy Sean Chiplock, but I did notice this. They seem to have directed him to give his best version of, "Bubsy trying to sound like the Rodger Craig Smith sonic the hedgehog." Like maybe it's just me but I'm seeing a lot of similarities to the modern sonic voice direction. Only instead of trying to sound like a teenager with attitude even 30 years after his debut they actually allowed bubsy to talk and to some extent act like his actual age.
He's not quite as annoying as he was in the old days, but they really should have removed the snarky in game comments entirely, kept them to the cutscenes if they HAD to have them at all.
As for the writing itself, the demo doesn't have much to go on being a demo, but it's definitely leaning on the "meta" side. Eg. Bubsy knows he's a second rate mascot character but doesn't want to admit it and even tries to act like he's one of the greats.

Do you believe the devs for this looked at Pizza Tower/SMB64 and realized this kind of crazy speedrun-friendly platformer is free real estate and that, with nintendo hating its own players, sonic team being held by retards and crash 5 cancelled, they had a concrete opportunity to bring back the most hated game mascotte of all time and somehow win?

Or the more logical reason. The state of AAA gaming has gotten so cursed, people would rather play as an orange washed up relic from the 5th generation who barley survived the 90s. Then play as; a gay/black samurai, a fugly dyke in outer space with a shaved head, or a bunch of spades robbing museums cause "we wuz kangz 'n sheeet!"

They need to get a better voice guy for bubsy, I dunno there's a very rancidly "not quite right" vibe to this voice IMO. On top of that the guy's pinging around and leaping and sounds like he's not even doing those things. Very "current year voice actor" delivery. Like he gets sucked into a tube and says "I don't feel like i'm really in control here" like he's just casually talking to someone and there's no VWOOPPSSSSH kinda sound you'd expect from a dude getting sucked into a pipe. Big disconnect on feedback despite the good looking gameplay.

Using the first game's theme song as distant background music feels odd in a not great way, imo. Shame, because I find it a good track.

The lack of sound effects really stood out to me too. The sound almost felt like it was dubbed over the footage, the disconnect was so bad. Almost nothing makes any sound at all except for Bubsy. It makes the game feel cheap and unfinished. I'm kind of a sound effects autist so it probably bothered me more than most, but I'd pick bad foley over nothing at all.

They put the brownoid tranny fag flag in the trailer for a cat platforming game, I can easily see why people were wary. I won't give them money just for that fact even if it's a good game, this is the kind of title a kid can most easily acquire without a parent questioning it.

Games have always been like this, dipshit. But instead of "out of place strong female secondary protaganst" it's "pride flag reference". GTAV flat out has a scene where the fat kid tells Michael "it's no longer cool to call people gay as an insult now that I have a gay friend", nobody bitched about that. Every single fucking game is woke. People'd be tearing Silksong apart if it wasn't the autistic hyperfixation of the internet for seven years.
This is why you shouldn't have any expectations for games and why I pirate all of mine unless it's funny or mechanically good and it's cheap, which Bubsy 4D would be if they keep it at $30 or under.
