Britney Spears reveals the horror film that is her life

It was heartbreaking to hear Britney Spears plead her case before a Los Angeles judge Wednesday, saying simply, “I just want my life back.”
Spears, who will be 40 this December, has been under her father’s conservatorship since 2008. Jamie Spears has controlled not only his daughter’s $60 million fortune but every aspect of her career and life — from terms of her Las Vegas residency to whether she could replace her kitchen cabinets.

No, Jamie told her. Too much money, even though she pays him $16,000 a month, is forced to pay for his attorneys — who have argued for years against her stated wishes, namely to be free — plus the cuts he gets from Britney’s tours and Vegas show.

“She is ‘sick of being taken advantage of,’ ” a court investigator reported in 2016, “and she said she is the one working but everyone around her is on her payroll.”
Spears was pulling in millions from her residency, but was allowed only $2,000 a week.

We’ve never heard Spears talk like this before. She’s never shared what she thinks or feels about the conservatorship — even as the #FreeBritney movement galvanized during the pandemic, as fans scoured her Instagram account for hidden messages or clues, as the documentary “Framing Britney Spears” made a case against the pop music machine, the media, and the public at large for victimizing Britney.

It’s sad, bracing stuff. Britney Spears has long been something of an American tragedy. She doesn’t want that anymore. She wants her independence and her father — who she describes as her tormentor — out of her life.“[My father] loved the control he had over me, one hundred thousand percent,” Britney told the judge.

This control, Britney said, extends to her sex life and whether she can have another child. “I have an IUD in my body right now they won’t let me take out,” she said.

This is “Handmaid’s Tale” stuff.
“I want to be able to get married to my boyfriend and have a baby but the conservatorship told me I can’t do that,” she said. “I feel ganged up on and bullied and alone.”

As for her tepid claims, till now, that she’s been fine with the status quo: “I’ve lied and told the whole world I’m OK and happy,” Britney said. “I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized.”

“But now I’m telling you the truth, I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry it’s insane . . . I cry every day.”
She asked that the conservatorship be terminated, no more questions, no more bs.

“I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive,” she said.
Doesn’t get much clearer than that.
Conservatorships are typically granted only in extreme cases: A person is suffering from dementia or some other dire limitations.

Spears, a mother of two, has successfully performed in Vegas for years without incident. How hapless can she be?

It will be fascinating to see how this plays out now, post-#MeToo. Here we have a “troublesome female” — a child star sexualized as a young teenager, who shot to global superstardom, the media hounding her over whether she was still a virgin, a girl whose every relationship, parents included, was based on what she could do for them — claiming that her father has forcibly institutionalized her and forced her perform against her will, once as she suffered from a 104 degree fever.

“In California,” Britney said, “the only similar thing to this is called sex trafficking, making anyone work against their will, taking all their possessions away: credit card, phone, passport.”
Upon her institutionalization, Britney said, “I cried on the phone to my dad for an hour and he loved every minute of it. My dad and everyone else who has played a key role in my conservatorship should be in jail. They have way too much control.”

Her father has “enslaved” her, she said. “He made me feel like death . . . I don’t want to be in this stupid conservatorship anymore. It’s embarrassing and humiliating.”

Historically we’ve seen a lot of erratic, self-destructive behavior from male celebrities. Can you think of one who has been kept under conservatorship for years — or ever?

Yet here is a female superstar still under her father’s thumb — a father she is “afraid of,” as Spears told the court last year, one who is a recovering alcoholic and has allegedly been physically and verbally abusive.

In 2014, when Spears told the court she believed her father was drinking again and requested that he follow the rules — take the regular alcohol tests he volunteered for, Jamie refusing to do more than just one — the judge in the case was outraged. At Britney.
“Who is she to be demanding that of anybody?”
The subtext is unmistakable: Who is she to challenge her father, let alone the court? Who is she to demand personal autonomy?

Britney Spears may, as has been documented, have mental illness. She, like her father, may have had issues with substances.

But that is no argument against allowing a nearly 40-year-old woman to live her life as she chooses — whether that’s squandering all her money or retiring from public life or having a baby or, horrors, replacing the kitchen cabinets.
#FreeBritney.

Honestly she deserves freedom. Its ridiculous that she can't have anything of her own. She had a mental breakdown yes, but that's because of the media.

Legit feel bad for her.

This is 'merica. She has the God given right to be publicly crazy, squander her money, live like a Hollywood recluse, OD on meth, retire and become a housewife, or whatever she wants. Just because she has talent and can make money, it's nobody's place to force her to make the best of it and grind it out for paychecks.

She's absolutely right--they work for her. She earns her money and should control it and choose not to earn money if she wants.

You know this shit goes on all the time and has through history--from kings to movie stars to billionaires like Howard Hughes--there is a point where the people who isolate them and protect them "for their own good" take advantage and make their situation worse. Britney is lucky enough to have a moment of clarity and a chance to speak publicly.

I always thought the most genuine thing she did was her 3 day marriage to her HS boyfriend where they ran off, til they caught her and forced her to divorce him. It was probably the most free she was in her life. Hope she wins this one.

Regarding her mental illness, one would have to go WAY the fuck deep into her past, including her childhood

Reminder that before she made it big with "Hit Me Baby One More Time", she was in the Mickey Mouse Club at a young age, so for all we know, she could have been fucked right from the get-go

I think she was a Star Search contestant with Beyonce, Timberlake, etc?

I don't care for Britney, but this conservatorship is 100 percent bullshit. Most people don't understand how they work. To require a conservatorship means you suffer from several mental/cognitive disabilities that prevents you from not making and understanding decisions.

This doesn't mean being mentally unstable or making stupid career decisions. If that was all it took to need a conservatorship, then a shit load of people would get them. In the USA, you're allowed to make choices, even if they are bad choices, and being bipolar isn't enough to have your God given rights taken away.

A conservatorship is when you're unable to understand your choices and literally can't make them. Think: elderly with severe dementia, severe autism or mentally retarded. These are people who cannot think or advocate for themselves and will actually die without someone making decisions on their behalf.

I have never seen another case where someone is deemed safe and able to work a full time REAL JOB somehow also be considered too incompetent enough to make their own decisions. That's completely contradictory.

I think when Brittney first had her mental break down, the conservatorship made sense. But she's "fine" now. Fine enough to be on her own and work, which her family has been forcing her to do for over a decade. Being bipolar is not enough to lose your ability to make decisions. What she's going through is actually horrifying to think about and makes me question the judge who approved it. How many other conservatorships were approved that didn't actually need it?

All the crazy shit back in the day was because she is mentally ill. Crazy people do crazy shit. The media can't give you bipolar disorder.

I feel bad for Britney. It's a bummer way for things to shake out for her.
It's nice that you at least feel bad for her. How human of you. That being said, I can guarantee you couldn't handle the scrutiny her ass went under with all the media BS.

Just imagine leaving your house and someone giving a single fuck. about you. It's terrifying, I know. Now imagine everywhere you go, there's legit hundreds of peoples mobbing you nonstop. Going through hardcore personal matters? Doesn't matter, people are in your face flashing a camera a thousand times.

The fuck outa here you NEET queer unless you share your experiences with being famous from an early age with greedy parents.

Please point out where I said living in the limelight is easy

The question is why even work at that point.

If she's capable of raking in millions of dollars, she should be allowed to spend it however she wishes. Even if that means burning it in her backyard, it's her money.

And I have to say, having read the transcript of what she said, she comes off as very intelligent and well spoken. There's probably millionaire football players who can't string together a grammatically correct sentence with more legal autonomy of their fortunes than her.

she also did a full tour in 2018 along with a residency in Vegas for 5 years. Heres Rose McGowan talking about it on Tucker

Yeah this entire thing is fucked. I don't care about her music career, or any of the stupid celeb drama I would find on the E! network, but holy shit. Having an IUD put into your body against your will? that's fucked.

This situation is sick and it needs to stop. How her father, who has been using her and her sister as human wallets all their lives, was appointed conservator is beyond me. Her conservators should have been some lawyer and a good accountant, with no relations to the family. They should be instated asap before anything else.

tfw when you thought legal slavery was over in America except for black dudes and white junkies in the prisons

Britney Spears' mother Lynne's new book contains explosive revelations that the star was drinking at 13, sexually active at 14 and took drugs at 15
The sensational revelations were leaked to the National Enquirer ahead of the highly-anticipated publication of the memoir, called Through The Storm: A Real Tale Of Fame And Family In A Tabloid World.
A source has told how Britney was dating the football star while at school, and how her mother encouraged the relationship because she thought it would make her more popular.
The budding singer spent a lot of time at her boyfriend's house and eventually lost her virginity there.
Her mother later admitted she regretted allowing her to date an older boy but still allowed her to share her bedroom with new boyfriend, Justin Timberlake.
Mrs Spears was said to be sure the teenagers were having sex.
She never had a chance.

Feel like she wouldn't be able to live in a mansion if she was living off of $2k a week. So what does it mean to have a $2k allowance per week?

At the same time the father, Jamie Spears is living in an RV in Louisiana outside a warehouse of Britney memorabilia. As well you have stories of him supposedly just hanging out in his small town hosting crawfish boils and visiting the VFW bar.

So something about the story doesn't add up. Her father is having her get mansions to live in, but painting kitchen cabinets is too much? At the same time he's pilfering this grand fortune from her to do what?

Some people are saying her worth used to be about $350 million, and then dropped to $50 million, going on to conclude the money vanished due to her dad. Only problem is it seems like people came to that number based on concert and song earnings, when it's strange to assume there'd be no expenses needed to be paid out on any of that.

Based on this shoddily sourced site it looks like her worth, based on 2014 court documents, has stayed relatively stable for years under the conservatorship.
2021-06-24 (2).png

So she's not being impoverished by this whole situation, the father doesn't appear to be getting made mega wealthy, and there's a shroud of mystery around all the spending going on.

Bits like this make me a bit suspicious of the mainstream narrative. Because it sounds a lot like she's blaming the father for these different people like her manager costing so much.
Mr. Ingham then filed complaints about the ways Mr. Spears managed the singer’s money, asserting that he paid excessive fees of over $300,000 to the firm of her then-business manager, Ms. Taylor. (In court, a lawyer for Mr. Spears called the fees reasonable.)
It sounds like a ton of money, then it turns out it was due to the company acting as her manager wanting a minimum commission to go along with the existing 5% commission on her income due to her having decided to go on an indefinite work hiatus in early 2019. So Britney is complaining that he didn't negotiate and screwed her out of $300k by agreeing to her manager's deal that came about due to her not wanting to perform in 2019 (I don't know if she really stayed on hiatus like she said) and paying what seemed to be the bill for that year.

Which all makes me think there's some dishonesty going on with all the money talk so that we can't really know what's going on too well.

she's pushing 40. 40 year-olds with bipolar don't have conservators, normally. They may have a psychiatric medical team, their money in trust doled out by accountants, and other stopgaps, but they do not have conservators.

It's not necessary. Even a court-appointed conservator would be fine compared to this.

the money is not even relevant

Come to any Council Estate in England and that's normal.

OT: There isn't a time (from her being legal age) that i would not have smashed Britney's backdoors in.

This was the chick so fucked up that South Park did an episode where they essentially said "Yeah, we all love ragging on celebrities but can we make an exception in this case? Because it seriously looks like she's about to fucking kill herself".
