A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Man lures woman back to his flat, murders her and cuts up her body

Surely there will be a national outcry over this horrific crime, political figures will make statements condemning it , there will be a national reckoning about violence against women, nationwide vigils and riots will break out...oh wait, the killer is an Iraqi rapefugee asylum seeker, we're not allowed to get angry about this or we're all racist.

I got partway through a sentence and had a giggle:
"Speaking for the first time since her death"

Obviously the rest of that sentence is about the family making a statement, but what a daft way to start a paragraph.

"...Lone wolf, tormented by Kebabophobia, mental health problems, wuz talented yoof mentor, committed muslim..."

Take your pick.

You know the lyrics to this song and the tune it is played to.

Everyone jokes about raking up the Leaf, but what can you say about the Eternal Anglo? Day of the Toothbrush?
The teeth thing is an outdated stereotype with little actual historical justification. When you're attacking the eternal, you need to attack eternal things.

We sent in one whole Scotsman to China to pretend to be a Chinaman to steal their tea secrets and we won big.
He looked like this:

You cannot attack what is so unbelievably based.

I don't know about racial relations but Irish ones seem to be going backwards;

A 47-year-old man has been charged following another night of violence in Northern Ireland.
He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court on 26 April charged with riot and throwing a petrol bomb.
Thirty petrol bombs were thrown at police and three vehicles were hijacked and set alight during rioting in Newtownabbey, on the outskirts of Belfast, on Saturday night.
It happened at the Cloughfern roundabout in the O'Neill Road area.
Police said a crowd of 20 to 30 people gathered from about 19:30 BST to 22:30 BST.
The crowd consisted of young people and older men, some of whom were wearing masks, according to police.

And a nice video of one of said rioters suffering some friendly fire.

Oh and we're still having the Kill The Bill protests ongoing and good old Jeremy Corbyn is supporting them.

Oh and finally, though it only squeaked in at the end, people are starting to realise that the slogan was chosen for an additional reason. Because "the bill" is also a term for the police.

Petrol bombs in North Ireland? Where have we seen this before?
It happens so much i’m surprised the news even bothered to cover it. I’m pretty sure someone launched an RPG into a NI police station a couple years ago and it wasn’t even mentioned on tv news.
