https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Man charged with murder of Rikki Neave. Pretty notorious cold case. The guy charged would have been 13 when he committed the crime.

A man has been charged with murdering a six-year-old boy 25 years ago.

Rikki Neave was last seen leaving his Welland estate home in Peterborough on the morning of 28 November 1994. His naked body was found strangled in woodland nearby.

Police began re-investigating the schoolboy's death in 2015.

James Watson, 38, of no fixed address, has been charged with his murder and will appear before magistrates in Peterborough on Thursday.

Rikki was last seen leaving his home in Redmile Walk for school at about 09:00 GMT.

His body was found the next day in a wooded area about a five-minute walk away.

A post-mortem examination concluded that Rikki died as a result of being strangled.

Rikki's mother Ruth Neave was cleared of his murder at a trial in 1996, but she was jailed for seven years after pleading guilty to child neglect.

Assistant Chief Constable Paul Fullwood said: "The cold case review into Rikki's murder was undertaken by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit in 2014.

"We began re-investigating the case in 2015 and following extensive investigative work, we have now been authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service to charge James Watson in connection with his death."

The policeman who visited the guy to warn him off for his tweet also told him that "some people are born with a female brain". This utterly unscientific crap is being taught unquestioningly to police who then try to police based on it.

Oh, the girl that guy attacked in the picture above, I no longer have the source but I'm pretty certain she was sixteen. There's video of it where the guy first roughs her up and then actually goes to the boot of his car, gets the hammer and comes back at her. Her similarly young boyfriend is begging the guy to let her go but you can full on see how much hate there is in this guy. These are the sorts of people appointed to instruct UK police. And if you see a sharp rise in violent crime by women in stats some years from now, keep in mind UK police are recording incidents like the above as female perpetrator.
Why is it almost always Merseyside or one of these other "something side" police force that appears in these articles? Do they have nothing else to do?

BTW, her side was apparently that it was all an accident and she didn't actually abuse her boyfriend. And that the blood that was sold to the media was apparently hers. IDK if true, but it's an interesting angle if it is: https://twitter.com/rachaelvenables/status/1230026039369310208?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1230026039369310208&ref_url=https://s9e.github.io/iframe/twitter.min.html#1230026039369310208

Didn't her boyfriend tell police in his 999 call that she "tried to kill" him? Doesn't really fit with an accident narrative. The date she wrote that instagram post isn't known, my guess is it was probably just part of the defense they were trying to build but who knows

Edit: Relevant story from December: https://metro.co.uk/2019/12/23/caro...ewis-burton-tells-police-tried-kill-11952182/
They did publish photos of the supposed head injury yesterday though and I have to admit I can't even make it out: https://metro.co.uk/2020/02/19/phot...wing-caroline-flacks-assault-charge-12267545/ Guess the whole thing is a clusterfuck at this point

I think it's a small cut running horizontally where I marked here. I can't even be sure it's not a strand of hair but head wounds can produce a lot of blood from a tiny cut that gets lost in the hair.

Tragic story tbh, this is why you should think very hard before involving the police in your domestic shit. It's not up to you whether they press charges.

Not that I blame him, it's fucked up to smash a lamp on someone's head while they're asleep and if he's a normal person he will be feeling a terrible guilt about how this ended up until he dies.

The blood was apparently hers - she’d cut a wrist. http://archive.is/wip/bpZOS major drama queen.
She still whacked him over the head with a lamp, if it had been a bloke threatening to kill himself and whacking a woman with a lamp the press would be hanging him out to dry.
Didn’t she date Harry styles when he was ridiculously young or something? He was 17 and she was in her 30s. Lots of kickback about how many couples have a 15 year age gap when it’s not the gap but the fact one is still a child that’s grim. http://archive.is/wip/l0Rcx
Seems like quite an unhappy and volatile person. I also can’t help but think that if this had been a man, sleeping with a 17 year old, hitting a girlfriend in the head with a lamp, it might be reported a bit differently.

It was apparently her blood from the broken lamp shards? That's what i heard anyway, i couldn't quote it. might have been a self harm / attention-seeking move during the domestic. He was also asleep at the time she quite litterally 'Lamped' him??

edit: I see this has all already been said, sorry!

What makes me angry is the press once again doing a double turn now that she offed herself.
The likes of Dan Wooten, Eamon Holmes, Piers Morgan all paying tribute to her and hanging out the press to dry for bullying, whilst going after Meghan Markle for taking 'our Hawry' away from them.
So...yeah...fuck ITV/Sun/Daily Mail?

Nah, fuck Meghan Markle. The celebs should just not have slobbed the knob of the domestic abuser who killed herself.

Why? I get she's probably a privileged opportunistic cow, but still the media coverage on her was disgusting at times, as well as being clearly biased.

Bringing this over from the Scotland joke thread.

Yesterday, National File reported on a Wakefield “Cyber Prevention Officer” who was arrested and charged with distributing child pornography.

It's just yet another Northerner showing himself to be a subhuman disgrace in the UK, nothing new here.

Just as a POI, Sonia Poulton is a former Sky News Journalist who's started making YouTube videos. Null tweeted about her because she's open about using the farms as a source. Anyway she's made a video about drag queen story time coming to the UK. Her other videos are worth a watch as well, particularly the Aimee Challenor one.
