A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Because good compassionate people just lie down and take it like a bitch in the face of aggression. Only Toxic Masculinity infested Dudebros actually stand up for themselves.
You've heard it a thousand times already but it bears repeating.
Weakness is now a virtue. Pride, Strength and Self Reliance are now demonized and looked down upon.
I mean think about the feelings of the poor Muslims who suffer so much as they spit on your tolerance and tear your society apart.
Fuck man when the Romans and Song Chinese got too corrupt and decadent for their own good the Huns and Mongols showed up to push their shit in.
I think the same thing should happen to us. We've more than earned it.

It was actually the fault of Teresa May before she became Prime-minister (albeit not for much longer) she introduced an end to stop an search with the Metropolitan police. Stop and search was removed because according to Mrs May, it victimised ethnic minorities, incidentally the very same ones who stab people and throw acid. Don't even get me started with Moped gangs, they have complete rule of the streets now because the police are unable to apprehend them while they are on a vehicle in case it causes bodily harm to the perpetrator. It feels bleak in the urban areas because it genuinely feels like the Government is actively protecting criminals through its new regulations which fucks over the largely over stretched and ill equipped police force.

But Mr Larner has since been placed on the Government's Prevent programme over fears that he could become an extremist after he was contacted by far-right yobs.

He has had to attend de-radicalisation classes and police are monitoring him, the Sun reported.

Mr Larner said: 'They treat me like a terrorist but I’m not political at all.

The 49-year-old required surgery after being slashed multiple times in the head and neck by Rachid Redouane and Yousseff Zaghba, who - along with third terrorist Khuram Butt - ended up killing eight and injuring 38 others.

He was released from hospital 12 days after the attack which left him with more than 80 stitches to his head, ear, arms and hands.

While in hospital, he was pictured propping himself up in bed with a 'learn to run' manual his friends had given him - which they said displayed 'our south-east London sense of humour'.

Mr Larner said one of the attackers had shouted, 'This is for Allah,' and 'Islam, Islam, Islam,' when they struck.

Even after being repeatedly stabbed and falling to the floor, CCTV footage showed Mr Larner raising his fists in defence.

The Millwall fan was a hailed a hero after the attacks, with some even calling for him to be George Cross, the highest civilian award for gallantry.

However, in July 2017, footage from February of that year emerged of him spitting on a black photographer and ranting about 'foreign c****s who 'stink like s***t'.

He escaped jail after being handed a suspended sentence and a £50 fine.

Later, in September 2018, he was charged after being found with the powerful and potentially deadly painkiller fentanyl - the drug linked to the death of popstar Prince.

A good way to radicalize someone who isn't is probably to treat them like they are. Hey Britbongs, worry about the guys actually committing terrorist attacks, not the guys stopping them

And they still want to pretend that Islam is not the official state religion of the UK?

How many mosques are being watched for who they talk to? How many muslims are being compelled to take anti-radicalization classes?

interesting. so in the UK, being a victim of a terrorist attack gets you on a watchlist.

i've been to london once, and i swore i'd never go back. i intend to keep this promise to myself.
