A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

This isn't even the first time this has happened.

The judge said he was in no sense showing "remorse", which was "very concerning".

"You still hold deeply entrenched views in support of this extreme right wing ideology," she told the teenager.
I'm sure two years in the paki- and nigger-rich prison environment will cure him of these wrong-headed views, guv. With any luck, he'll be off to Gdansk with a spring in his step to extol the benefits of Diversity.
Never mind that Megan broad doesn't even fucking look black. Clown world.
That's because mulatto Markle has had extensive plastic surgery to soften her simian features. Jungle fever only goes so far.

Of course she should. That’s the point of free speech. The laws some people want to pass would end up screwing them over as well, and they can’t see that they are doing the same thing they claim to hate.

Increasingly, I don't see ordinary folks pushing new laws. Take most examples, even NZ, did we see citizens calling their officials saying that they need to ban this or that? These laws, these changes come from officials that are usually very high on the totem pole and will not likely see any repercussions from those laws, in fact they are usually least effected by them.

Exactly. You hit the nail right on the head.
It’s not the average people pushing this, it’s the Gentry, the politicians, the journalists and celebrities. But they aren’t affected, the normal people are.

Ahh yes, the BBC goes into more detail.

The whole thing about "encouraging or glorifying terrorism" as an offence to my mind is suspect. I'm not entirely sure that should be an offence because of what is "terrorism" but suffice to say I can't help but feel there's more appetite to go after neo-Nazi terrorist glorifiers than Islamist terrorist glorifiers.

The thing I see is this, the people who want all this censorship and speech laws passed have a very short memory. I'm some sped with a very long one, and it's very fun to bring up hypocrisy when I see it.
Besides, it's like the line from 'The Hangman',
"First the alien, then the Jew, I only did what you let me do."
Once you let this stuff go, it will only get worse. And mark my words, the UK will get worse and worse if they don't wise up.

Not Trump specifically, I meant more about any reigning authority. But yeah, they hate him.
This memory thing, should there be a KF memory hole division? Kind of like a separate wikipedia where we catalog just... everything that nobody wants cataloged, and I don't mean lolcow crap.

Ah yes, what was it?
"Fahrenheit 451?" No, that's not it.
"Brave New World?" Not quite.
Ah! Must have been "1984." The book that everyone likes to talk about, but few read.
But it is coming to that, and it's worrying.
Personally, I don't care much for people not reading 1984 as long as they at least learn the concepts surrounding it. To understand concepts like doublethink and be able to pick up on it before it's too late. The whole 'alternative facts' fiasco is a good example of why the US is not fucked for the time being. They called out the Orwellian sounding pair of words and relentlessly criticized/mocked it. The UK is already pretty fucked, the people would have to fight tooth and nail just for the chance of breaking free from their oppressive government. For example, the UK government is instituting a porn ban in which you must submit to the government your identity just to watch adult content. This will likely end up being used for mass surveillance of something that's meant to be a secret. I doubt even those that buy a porn pass from a store would be safe as their purchase is tracked and their IP address can easily be associated with the "private" code that just happens to be linked to their identity. As for what the UK government will do with this, nobody knows and nobody should wait to see. They're also implementing facial recognition cameras, that window in which the people could fight back is closing real fast.

What would we even do there? Why not just archive and save things you personally like and are interested in, and if it vanishes, share it with all and sundry. Like the datahoarders, but less dickish and actually sharing what you have. It’s what I do.
Neat idea, but I don’t think it’s worth the candle.

Defiantly. I just find it kind of funny when people bring up things they haven’t read.
But the lessons are the most important part.

Fuck the UK. i'm glad my ancestors got the fuck out while the getting was good.

I hope the queen sends all of you to gulags. It's what you deserve for having a hereditary monarch in current year. I'd be fucking ashamed if I was British.

The United Kingdom should just become a total monarchy again. At least that system is honest about you having no rights, like freedom of speech.

Lol imagine being such a fucked up country it makes me side with actual fucking neo Nazis.

When is the UK gonna kick that family of freeloading welfare queens off the dole

In my opinion you have to read 'Homage to Catalonia'. This is where you will understand Orwell's thoughts on socialism and communism.

It was the basis of why he wrote 1984 and Animal Farm.

Yes, let's ruin this guy's life - name and shame - for making fun of the inbred royal family.
