A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Kids are trash, but adults playing with model trains should be used to being bullied. At least they still have their lunch money.
Please don't autism-shame on this website, it's the only site I have left besides Voat, and I think we can both agree, that place is a fate worse than death.

>Its chairman Peter Davies, 70, said exhibits were smashed, thrown around and stamped on, including a locomotive unit worth about £8,500.

>"One guy spent 25 years on his work and it's wrecked, it's just horrendous.

> "We will never have the time to build the sort of layouts again, that's where the anger comes from."

man that's really depressing. They just wanted to show their work & passion.

Well at least they can start to build something new with the money they got, so it's not so bad.

Kids are fucking stupid, they probably thought it was just made on the spot or something

In the 40's, they said the same thing about kids killing cats with pellet guns. We've actually gotten "less" tolerant.

60 days and placing him above immigration laws for raping a tiny dog to death. We are more tolerant than ever. Just depends on where you sit on the oppression hierarchy.

While I agree, train spergs are pretty autistic, they aren't bothering anybody. Just mock them online like a normal person.
There was really no need to smash their things.

I just think that a lot of kids don't understand how long projects like this take. They probably think they could just buy a new on from amazon and that be the end of it. I just don't think they can fathom that some one spent posibly there entire life time or half of that Building a single thing. Espically now a days you can buy anything online.

I wish this crime had taken place somewhere other than Cuck Island, as I'd really like to see these kids get a stiff sentence. How about making them ineligible for welfare for the rest of their lives? I can't imagine any kid who destroys thousands of hours of a person's life on a whim will be capable of the type of industry and self-control required to get a decent-paying job.

Each one of the vandals should have their dominant hand crushed as punishment.

After fuming for 30 seconds thinking about belting the little fuckers I started thinking what kind of non-physical punishment I'd mete out if one of these shits was mine. Let's be real, if they're delinquents, their parents are footing the bills and the kids themselves learn nothing.

First of all I'd get in contact with the people who had their work destroyed and asked about any work they had around the house. Then the little bastard would be drafted to become their little bitch. Rake their leaves, do their laundry, work back the hours upon hours that you wrecked in a moment. I'm talking doing this housework for nothing until they're fucking eighteen, and after that if they still want to keep living under my roof, they're going to keep doing it. They want to live in their parents' house until 30, they're going to be raking every single model train enthusiast's leaves until they're 30. They'll be hitting their forehead on the ground apologizing for existing to these people even if I have to powerbomb them to do it.

I know, it has a flaw: They'd just skip work and rebel. But kids are material. Their computers and smartphones are their lifelines, and I will format their fucking everything every single time they step out of line. All their contacts, bookmarks, hobbies, porn, gone. Fucking dare to tell me that it's "years worth gone" because you know how many years they themselves took from someone else.

Before I saw this happened in the UK, I wondered if Shaner would be somehow involved.

Seriously, this sucks. While it's true one could probably buy new stock trains and equipment easily, these people invested a significant amount of time, money, and other resources into customizing their model trains and layouts to suit their interests - all of which became sunk costs when this vandalism took place. There's likely no way to get any of that back without incurring even more extensive costs.

They'd probably murder their parents in revenge. It's like holding heroine back from a junkie.

you guys are concentrating a bit much on the trains as the focus, albeit no doubt for some they are the focus entirely. the dioramas that showcase the trains are often as intricate and planned as anything you might expect as the attention to detail to make a realistic scene that can stand up to scrutiny and is to scale is incredibly difficult when that scene must also be mechanically/electrically functional and period correct. it's not an exaggeration that some scenes take decades to make by hand, and are on the level of handmade mechanical clocks, hand crafted knife and jewelry sets, boutique clothing or guns.

8 grand for a fucking toy?

I am gonna have to watch that James May BBC program on Hornby trains.

They did spend 25 years on it so that is 320£ per year. I spend more than that on makeup.

Edit: relax guys, I meant that 8k is not insane to spend on something you intend to use for decades.
