A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

No I fucking hate the police. An institution there to protect the rights of the land owners against us proles. And nowadays protecting the woke against the none woke.
Would love to move somewhere else but where?

Anyway once in the states at a national park myself and a child I were accompanying were told to leave the water by a park ranger where we were paddling in a lake because it was out of season and there was no life guard. Literally in the water up to our ankles.
The beaches in Long Island where you aren't allowed on if they are not open (big signs telling you this an offence).
The public transport where you aren't allowed to eat or drink (fucking ludicrous) and the petit bureaucrat security guard at Philly Central Library who wouldn't allow us to leave by the wrong door.
And fines for crossing a street on a red light.

The UK is a police state on one hand and on the other they don't tackle real crime because muh asian gangs and knife crime would be racist to solve.
Let's be honest, this will be used to make anybody afraid who goes on a political rally. The info will "accidentally" leak to antifa and the media who will ruin your life.

At least communists states had safe streets because the cops beat up everybody equally. You only get the downside here.

Anarcho-tyranny; don't control real criminals, too often that's racist or just too difficult, but if people buy into a system of law and order (and such notions as rights and responsibilities), it's a lot easier to make them fear the law.

Never have the words "two in the pink, one in the sink" meant so much.

Grauniad reporting backlash against this alleged deciphering. Wikipedia's talk page has some additional criticism, including that apparently the alleged translation was done by a PhD student in biology--simple searching confirms this, since Gerard Cheshire is a biologist and has no degree relevant to the field of decoding the Voynich manuscript (hence why he's identified as an "academic" in many of these clickbait articles). Seems like we can throw this effort in the centuries old pile of people who claimed to solve the manuscript.

I find it hard to believe that people were still speaking vulgar latin well into the 1500s, and weirder still that it was used by a queen.
They weren't. The only thing close to it was the "Sabir" language which was a trade language of various Romance languages (including now-extinct Romance languages in North Africa and southern Spain, but it was mostly Occitan, Catalan, and various Italian Romance languages like Genoese, although Berber and Arabic were also in there--North African trade was still big). The link to "Proto-Romance" should be a red flag here, since Proto-Romance is only used by linguists to refer to unattested Vulgar Latin which later led to the Romance languages we know (and what we don't know, like in North Africa, Britain, and Hungary). It isn't surprising this paper is being trashed.

The real translation no one wants you to see:

Good. [User was threadbanned for this post. Reason: one-word post.]

There are power-tripping assholes anywhere you go. But in the US you can tell most of them to fuck themselves and not go to jail for it.

Imagine unironically claiming that the guy who was fined was being immoral because he broke a stupid law and told off a police officer.

Imagine being this idiotically legalistic in your moral philosophy.

Imagine thinking that the British cops, who have been refraining from solving actual crimes (like the Muslim rape gangs and child grooming rings), should somehow be free from insult or mockery.

The bloke accepted the fine which he shouldn't have and should have let the matter go to court because Judges don't recognise police officers as victims under section 5 of the public order act and would most likely got thrown out.

He accepted likely because the police bullied him into doing so.

Reminds me of a general rule of thumb for dealing with traffic shit in some places. Who issued you the bullshit ticket? County mounties/sheriff's deputies? Take it to court, contest it, they're almost certainly not even going to fucking show and it's amazing they bothered ticketing you at all - they generally view that shit as being beneath their stations. City PD? Coin toss. A lot of them are real pissants but some just don't want to hassle with that. Play it by ear. Highway patrol? Take it like a bitch and aim for driving school shit. Highway patrolmen take their shit super serious, in my experience.

It kind of sounds to me like Brit cops are just a bunch of utter pissants in constant need of reasons to justify their jobs. I can completely understand not wanting to contest - they've turned their own vindictive natures into a job asset, they're not only going to show to shoot you down, they'll fucking make your life as much of a hell as they can after the fact.

The bloke committed a crime under the public order act by being abusive and swearing.
Nice to see that the Brits still don't believe in "Freedom of Speech"

But it kind of makes you wondet how they're willing to put up with this shit. I blame The Troubles.
