A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

If a lot of crazies on YT are to be believed (isn't too hard since they keep recording the police), once you start recording a policeman, they get extremely pissed off with you, basically telling you its their right to not be recorded, asking for your ID, literally following you to your goddamned house and finding any excuses to make sure you get fined for something.

One such pig was making the excuses that one of the policemen was a woman and it was super disrespectful or some shit. I can't remember much afterwards because I jammed a screwdriver through my temple.

He wasn't fined for avoiding the camera, he was fined £90 for disorderly conduct and telling a copper to fuck off.

There is no law on face coverings and you can refuse to be scanned.
 
Here, they mostly place the facial recognition cams in low-income, high crime areas.
This is dumb, since crims will mask their identity.

The real giveaway are the multiple bright signs warning anyone within the camera's sight that they are being recorded with facial recognition cameras.

I'll take this moment to remind everyone that former UK PM Gordon Brown endorsed the proposal of listening devices being installed in lamp-posts to counteract terrorism.
 
The UK is a police state on one hand and on the other they don't tackle real crime because muh asian gangs and knife crime would be racist to solve.
Let's be honest, this will be used to make anybody afraid who goes on a political rally. The info will "accidentally" leak to antifa and the media who will ruin your life.

At least communists states had safe streets because the cops beat up everybody equally. You only get the downside here.

He was being a cunt and went about it the wrong way. Just swearing at a copper as an arrestable offence under section 5 of the public order act although courts don't usually class police officers as victims under section 5. There are NO laws here in the UK that forbids face covering in the public or avoiding cameras, all he had to do was to decline and walk off and their is nothing the cops could do because your are not obliged to give your details when no crime has been committed.

You are not obliged to identify yourself when no crime has been committed and the moment an officer tries to detain you and demand ID they have committed assault and false imprisonment for unlawfully detaining the person under implied threat of force.

IF he was really fined for disorderly conduct, Oklahoma would welcome him with open arms.

Here There you can call cops any sort of derogatory names and they can do jack shit to you... so long as you call them sir at the end of it all.

i.e. "You are a blind fucking jackwagon who would be better used as soylent, Sir."
 
We have cameras in NYC but I can't imagine any cop stopping and harassing someone for covering their face. I mean I sometimes wear a haji rag & cover up my face if there's a lot of dust/exhaust & no cop has ever looked my way.
