A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Bloody hell, the media coverage is treating her like she was the second coming of Christ or something.

Bit of an update here. Their protest is ending on Thursday, sayeth the Beeb.

I suspect this will be because the school holidays are over by then. Yep, it's a larp as @Recon reckons. Personally, if I ran a school where a whole load of the kids went on strike I'd instigate legal proceedings against the parents for encouraging this old bollox. It's no different to term time holidays for which parents can be fined. Every last one. And I'd encourage the LEA to send in the bailiffs at the first sniff of non-payment.

Off on a tangent, but kinda related to environmental protestors, but it's about their beloved figurehead, Greta Thunberg. The child prophet made an appearance and threw her two cents regarding the UK's attitude to the environment. As a result, this lovely opinion piece was written.

Yes, for those who didn't know, everyone's favourite child leader is an Autist. This is who is being nominated and could possibly win the Nobel Peace Prize this year, a prepubescent autistic mouthpiece for environmentalists to rally around. This is the person who Extinction Rebellion probably draw inspiration from...

They're college kids aren't they? What does fining their parents do? Just chuck the twats in jail cells and let them sweat it out while mom and dad have a calm weekend

Her mother was Malena Ernman, opera singer and... environmental activist.

Sounds to me like she's been mini-me'd with constant screeching about the environment then adopted as a face by some dodgy enviro-movement types who know that Autistic Pippi Longstocking makes for better optics than some smelly bloody hippie.

Also, she has stated previously that she's opposed to nuclear energy. You cannot seriously hope to reduce CO2 emissions by any appreciable amount without nuclear energy. Solar and wind are just not up to it, battery storage requires rare earth metals that are nowhere near common enough to be remotely green to extract. That leaves nuclear and hydro. Nuclear is not acceptable to greenies because muh Chernobyl, and hydro is not acceptable because muh disruption to ecosystem. The only way Greta and friends will ever be satisfied is if we all go full on sackcloth and ashes. Which won't work anyhow because China will carry on merrily polluting regardless.

I think more news headlines should involve dead journalists but holy fuck, a sugary sticky firebomb is what got them? I would not wish that fate on anyone.

So the UK Communist Media Group Prolekult made a Documentary about the NGOs that are funding this and AOC's Green New Deal

If you don't wanna watch it, all of this is a scam. Like how all the Human Rights NGOs are shipping in migrants to replace Workers and get rid of borders so that they can have countless bodies to have for their work. Though anyone with a brain could've imagined that.

" We recommend our viewers look into some of the excellent work that has already been produced on the Green New Deal. @elleprovocateur's series on the NGO push for the financialisation of nature is a very thorough starting point.

Just mix your Kool-aid with Cyanide and everyone is happy.

I bet she was stronly anti-gun, anti-NRA, anti-freedom. This always puzzled me. If you are a fucking repressed minority, don't you want to make sure that your rights are not taken from you, by arming the fuck up? LGBT supporting anti 2a, pro-islam positively proves that it's a mental disorder.
This is true of lesbians, I think, but I'm sure you know very well how 'gays' and 'transexuals' breed. It involves other people's kids.

The GTP part of the acronym know very well that if it goes to guns, individual on individual, they're vastly outnumbered and are going to lose. That's why they support oppressive governments that will work for their interests.
With drone and FLIR technology being the way it is these days, any Provo wannabe waiting for an RUC patrol in a ditch is going to get his brains splattered before he can pull the trigger. It isn't 1995 anymore....

And it isn't quite that simple when it comes to NI returning to the Republic. There is still a sizeable loyalist population in NI. And to be frank, the Republic doesn't really want them, either.

At one point in time the Armalite and Ballot Box strategy was legitimate. It isn't now.
The old, more 'honorable' tactics may no longer be workable. 'Come out ye Black and Tans' no longer. But that's not the fault of the IRA. If they can't take a shot at a RUC constable leaning out of an alley from a couple hundred yards away, they'll simply need to shoot further. If things like shot spotters are widely deployed, they may be forced to move more towards bombs and truck mortars. It's still doable.

I do have concerns about certain technologies like those awful Ring video doorbells that they used against Smollett. But they won't stop freedom fighters. I mean, if Smollett was a no limit nigga rather than some queer from TV, we'd have been hearing about those things being pumped full of .45s from sideways HiPoints for two months by now.

And as you point out in regards the idea of just transferring NI to Ireland, loyalists are still a significant force. Prots are still a majority, and not all of them are cucked. That may change, but the territorial question cannot be resolved without population transfers.
