A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

XR, whose prime goal is to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2025, claims between 3,000 and 6,000 supporters could take part in the protests.
This is sound insanely impossible.
It comes as part of attempts to force the Government to declare a climate emergency.
What would that entail? Something tells me that nothing good could from it, however.

These are the same far left idiots that are for open borders and immigration ( increased population => pollution+ 'green house gases")
Stupid is as stupid does.

I'm a bit of a tree hugging hippie faggot myself, but I prefer to do things like recycle or carpool or throw dynamite into the gas tank of a feller buncher.

Honestly, what did they think they were going to accomplish by running around naked or blocking traffic, making people hate them and everything they stand for? How was that productive? How was that going to save the earth? Because you inconvenienced a few motorists for a handful of hours? Meanwhile a single factory in China is shitting out more carbon per second than London traffic produces in a week. And they obviously knew it would get them arrested, so they'll be in jail, where they can't do any other activist work. So what did they gain? It's not even a Pyrrhic victory for mother earth, just an exercise in maximum tardation.

"They will be blocking five of the city's busiest and most iconic locations in a non-violent, peaceful act of rebellion where they invite people to join them for several days of creative, artist-led resistance."
:story::story::story:

What does this even mean? Why do these people always think that living like a child and finger-painting their feelings makes them qualified to be leaders of society?

They are not just demonstrating in London.

The nap time protests crack me up. TAKE US SERIOUSLY AS WE NAP.

These people can get fucked. Guarantee there's a billionaire or someone who wants to be pulling the strings of all of these organizations.

Stupid is as stupid does.

The media are also very obviously sympathetic to them, but when Macron gave the police the right to use live ammunition on the Yellow Vest protestors the media largely ignored it.

Gee, it's almost like the Powers That Be want protests that would increase their power and don't want ones which would reduce it.

E.g. consider

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/belief/2010/feb/21/millennial-generation

Tamsin Omond, 25, who was in training to be an Anglican priest before she became a climate activist, has said: "I didn't feel like there was any energy for change in the church – I knew I could do so much more. When I left university, I felt that it was my calling to be a priest, but I was also terrified of climate change. I wanted to get Christians to realise that their faith was relevant to climate change, but the response was very complacent. It was so frustrating." Omond left the priesthood and went on to found the activist group Climate Rush. She says environmental activism is now her top priority: "Our response to climate change is going to define the future."

Tamsin Omond and Laurie Penny will pose as radical revolutionaries up to the point they get offered the job in politics they've always known they're entitled to. And at that point they'll cash in the bogus 'grassroots pressure' to increase the power of the state to regulate climate and of the EU to regulate member states.

That's why the media, politicians and police give them an easy time - they're working in the interests of those groups. Meanwhile the Yellow Vests, anti EU/pro BREXIT demonstrators are acting against the interests of the Powers That Be. And so if Macron decides the army can shoot them, all it will generate is a think piece on some wonkish site like politico.eu. It won't trigger the media's outrage machine demanding Something Must Be Done to stop it, even though if a non media approved politician did that it most certainly would. It'd be the lead item in every news bulletin.

Basically if you block streets to demand green taxes, the Powers That Be will cover for you. If you block streets to protest green taxes, the media will cover for the army when they shoot you. Or blind you. Funny how the bogus 'children in puppy dog cages story' about Trump got a lot more coverage than the gruesome injuries the French police are inflicting on the Yellow Jackets.

Reading their demands it looks like they’re eco-socialists, given the radical reform and ‘peoples assembly’. Like many environmentalists they see it as a great opportunity to smash capitalism and the general system.

I’m deeply concerned about the environment and I’m trying to change my lifestyle, but these protestors do very little for me. I’m sure they do care about the environment, but nothing is totally selfless and many of them I feelhave motives beyond the environment. Put it this way, if scientists came out tomorrow and said ‘sorry guys, got our figures wrong. It turns out eating meat is way better for the environment than produce’ do you really think all the vegan environmentalists will stop being vegan? Of course not. Like I said, I’m not saying it’s all a ploy and they don’t really care about the environment, just that it’s interesting how there’s only ever one solution to carbon emissions and it always involves smashing the current system entirely.

Protests continued today, with more activity in London (bringing arrests to over 100) and also a protest blocking roads in Edinburgh too. Wondering if they'll spread to where I live, though I doubt it because this area has always been shit at protesting.
