A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Ugh. The difference is that Christianity has the violent and bloody bits but then has Jesus sperging about forgiveness. Islam just has infidels and heretics getting the chop and women being cast into subjection. God may be all forgiving but Mo sure as fuck isn't.

I know this is incredibly :neckbeard: but Abrahamic religions are relics of a backwards time and should stay as such

For Muslims, there was never a reform or a new/latter day testament of pedoHammed, with slightly older wives, less dead aunts to have sex with, toned down violence.

There are some muslims (like Iman Tahidi) who believe in a more liberal form of Islam. Sadly, they're just a minority.

The problem isn't even that the Quoran has violent chapters: the Bible has some too. The problem is that these refugees come from countries where Islam has been weaponized by their leaders because, when you're living in a shithole, a promise of Heaven is the only thing you can cling to and their religious leaders know this very well. So, imagine being a poor (literally poor) man in your 20s, you have no money, no education, no job, and you can't look at women unless you have enough money to pay for a wife and most women are already taken by rich dudes: of course you're gonna be violent. And if your leaders tell you "well, Europe and United States is to blame and if you destroy their society you're gonna have 72 virgins!", they are going to do so.

The Middle East is never going to be fixed as long as they have a theocracy. And any kind of foreign intervention would make everything worst unless they actually go and kill all their leaders, which won't ever happen.

you are not smarter than your ancestors are, you only have more access to more information. Tricks that work on them will work on you and thinking that that is not true as you are so "enlightened" to your "barbaric" ancestors is the same line of reasoning that causes people to become communist these days via old soviet propaganda.

The same applies to religions, which began life as a combined set of general law and common ground between people. Is it easy for people to take control of them and wield them like a weapon? Of course it is, but why is that? Because it's a damn effective thing to get people to agree on something and that can be set forward to something positive. I would argue that Christianity, with it's message of tolerance and not murdering over trivial things has done a damn lot to prevent Europe from completely fucking itself up the ass like the Middle East, and why all successful governments today can trace a legal history back to the European Enlightenment.

You are aware that a lot of modern terrorists actually come from well-to-do families and are educated, aren't you? If radicalization were as simple as solving poverty and illiteracy, they'd drop their beliefs as soon as they arrived in a First World country--and they sure as the world wouldn't convert to that madness. Yet here we are, and they're instead invading other nations and bringing their poverty of spirit with them.

As opposed to honor killings against rape victims, throwing gays off of roofs and marrying nine year old girls off to dirty old men?

"Abrahamic religion" is supposed to include Islam. Because some guy cherry-picking our Scriptures, getting half of it wrong, blending it with blatant pandering, and then using the resulting mess as the world's most successful scam makes it part of Abraham's legacy, I guess.

What's the point of a Hajib if you still are dressing for attraction and beauty?

Isnt the whole point to be a boner killer and remove lust?

Why Revelations?

I would have gone for Matthew 10:34-39

"34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
35 For I have come to set a man against his father,
and a daughter against her mother,
and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
36 and one’s foes will be members of one’s own household.
37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and whoever does not take up the cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Those who find their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it."

Refusal was clearly not written by Christfag

He's not condoning actual violence there, it's a metaphor. I'm not religious but that's probably one of the most badass passages in the bible, and one thing you can say about that passage is that it's pretty much as fanatical as parts of the Quran.

Personally my favorite badass passage is Matthew 5:17-18:

17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them.
18 For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

I thought the Book of Revelation was a symbolic prophecy where Jesus and Jehovah did all the violence by causing plagues and famines and such, and nobody was directed to kill anyone, unlike the Quran which has literal commands to kill and fight all nonbelievers, and has perpetual war against unbelievers to promote Islam as a fundamental tenet of its faith.
The Book of Revelation has more in common with the Quran than Christians would like to admit. It takes a swipe at Paul of Tarsus by referring to the the false apostles that were rejected by the Ephesians, and endorses works-based rewards rather than faith based ones. Likewise the Quran makes no mention of Paul or his doctrines and is big on the Last Day, echoing the end-times imagery of Revelation. The Quran doesn't endorse perpetual war, the verses which advocate violence have conditions attached to them that the Islamaphobes often fail to mention.

John to the seven churches which are in Asia...
Revelation 1:4

This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
