A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I'm just hoping the UK doesn't fuck this up somehow. Please no organ theft rings, please no organ theft rings.
Wait until they extend this to kids, too. They'll be putting toddlers on an "end-of-life path" over a cold.

...more than they do already, I mean.
Something about organ donation and the UK gave me a really bad feeling. Then I remembered.

Long story short; the UK had a massive scandal with organ theft back in the early 2000s. Specifically, child organ theft. From 1988-1995, the Alder Hey Children's Hospital was secretly harvesting and selling children's organs for profit and for "research". There were eyes, hearts, brains and even the head of an 11 year old boy found stashed away in various locations related to Alder Hey. In addition, it's the same hospital that took Alfie Evans of life support without his parents' permission.

I honestly don't give a shit one way or another, since I'll be dead and gone, and at least something good will come out of it.

You'd be surprised at how cold the organ donation committees have to be. When I was in college, in my Ethics course we did did an exercise on how they do it. Sentiments don't enter into it. You get a list of people, the positive and negative qualities they bring to society, etc. It's not for the weak. Perhaps if there were more organs available, they might not have to be so.

And remember a few years ago when you had that family freaking out because her son was denied an organ, due to his criminal past, and his lack of compliance with doctor's orders. He ended up getting a transplant (I can't remember if was through a private organization, or if the hospital caved due to negative publicity, or what). Guess what the result was?

If you're going to make those claims, why aren't they doing that now, and simply bribing/blackmailing all the doctors into taking the organs anyways?

Wouldn't you also have to mindwipe the family members to stop them from asking things like 'where are my husband's organs?' and 'it was a stabbing, what do you mean you couldn't recover the body?'

With an opt-out in place, they can just take the organs and all they'd probably have to do is manipulate the records to say they never opted-out. Even if a few kicked up a fuss, they'd probably still get a dozen or so fresh, viable bodies.

In Freedomland when you get a license or state ID you will be asked if you want to be an organ donor and it will be shown on your card. I put down yes because I won't be using my organs after I die. Why not let someone else enjoy them. I don't know what happens if you die without ID on you and if there are other ways they can check rather than asking a relative who may use their own beliefs instead of your own or simply may not know.

I am not sure how I feel about beng registered by default though. You can opt out but many people are lazy or don't keep up with anything going on outside their little sphere too well. So they may not know. All it takes is some POC raising cain about "muh religion" and how this is some kind of conspiracy to harvest their organs and it will be all over the news.

I think that more education about the importance or organ donation is needed.
If you die without ID or before the age to get a license, they ask the immediate family. It happened to a friend of mine who died without an ID. Her lung went to a lady with cystic fibrosis.

Systems like this will ALWAYS be abused by the powerful classes. ALWAYS.

EDIT - I should add that use of 'powerful' is arguably incorrect here. Setting "donate" to default creates a climate in which the death of the average joe in hospital is not seen as the absolute endgame to be avoided at all costs. There is very high and unspoken value in all those organs that only becomes relevant to staff and docs right at the moment of death.

The wealthy.... they don't deal with hospitals and doctors the same way you or I do. I'm having trouble putting this into words but I assure you, Im not full of shit.
Marxists rise up!

I really don't know why, but this doesn't sit right with me.
I know, people who direly need a replacement organ will be saved by this in the future, but something about mandatory organ donations that you need to opt out is just so weird to me.
I don't buy into ridiculous "And now they will kill off people preemptively just to harvest their organs" broohaha either. I just really dislike this approach. They might as well encourage people to donate their organs or make it more easy to be recognized as a donor, but outright turning it into something that people have to opt out?

I just wonder how many politicians that support this bill will opt out.

Putting these posts together really connects the dots for me. At the core, the problem is that it's the NHS- the medical bureaucracy that will drag you into court to stop you from getting treatment for your child, and have the judge rubber-stamp their decision, giving it the force of law. Having life-or-death decisions handled by a vast, faceless, essentially unaccountable bureaucracy means that they will be handled in the way that's most convenient for the bureaucrats, not the patients.

The British upper class will ignore crime waves and orchestrate terror attacks that kill masses of people whenever they need organs.

More than they do already?

When you're already asserting that the elites will whip up terrorist attacks on demand for Nefarious Reasons, asserting that they'll do this when it violates one more law than it already does isn't a stretch.
When the rich want an organ, they pay someone in Thailand to murder Bhang Phang the rice farmer, not Joe Smith. Even in opt-in countries. Like I said, rent, not own.

What I really would like is to be able to put conditions on who can get my organs after I die, wouldn't those that have abused their bodies from obesity, drugs and alcohol to get, nor violent criminals, and pedos, and not crazy fuckers like commies, troons, furfags or Islamic fundamentalists
I've read about at least one faggot on reddit who got a donated heart because he abused his OG, abused the second heart to the point of failure, and got a third one. I ticked the box on my ID but fuck no my heart isn't going to an ungrateful bastard like that. He said he "realized his mistake because he was so young", really wish the fucker would have done it one heart ago...

I've got a PLC in jolly old Bongistan who had a legit fucked up liver problem and was told as a teen she'd need a transplant at some point... who then promptly decided she could party her ass off, drink like a fish, and snort up all the coke, because hey, her health is the government's problem, innit? So at the age of 32 her shit shut down, and she whined in the papers about how unfair it was she had to wait for a transplant, what with her rare blood type 'n all. She got her free liver and... started drinking again, and it's now being rejected. So she's gearing up for Whine Fest 2: Wine = New Liver, Your Majesty!

How is it that people in Bongistan can fuck up all the organs they like, and still qualify for new ones? I thought that shit was supposed to send you to the back of the line queue or whatever the fuck you call it.

Tissue typing is a motherfucker. The fucks that get new parts despite them fucking up their original organs just get lucky.

Also, relevant:

Is this all covered by the nhs even if you fucked up the first donation?
Because at least in the US even if your first donation was covered by insurance, they'd probably say something like "Since this is your SECOND life saving organ, that'll be $500,000. Pay up or get out." I mean, sure there are outliers, but it's a good incentive to keep your first healthy donor organ fucking healthy.

Wonderful, this is the kind of next level shit I expect from the scifi dystopia of 2018. No longer content to merely work and tax you to death, the British government now demands your body after you die! ALL IS GIVEN TO THE STATE You might have thought to yourself one lonely night, how nice it will be, to die, and finally be rid of these authoritarian, twitter obsessed, Muslim pedophile ring enabling, chickenshit cunts - but not in England! In England you'll never be free, first they'll take your organs for transplants and then they'll take them for medical research and police investigations and then they'll demand to know why you won't sign up, coffins are really expensive anyways and what do you care, it's not like you're going to use it.

When I'm ready to die, I'm jumping into a volcano like Tom Hanks. Let King George fish my organs out of the magma if he wants them so bad.
