A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Britain could soon be importing salt as Net Zero threatens to stop salt production
The end of the British salt industry could be apocalyptic
For the first time in history, England is set to become a net importer of the world’s most important mineral.

Salt has been a major industry in Britain for centuries. The salt deposits in Cheshire, the West Midlands and Teesside are huge and still are – in fact, they could be viable for decades to come.
Yet now the UK is on the verge of becoming a net importer of salt, for the first time in history. Inovyn, the company that produces roughly 50 per cent of Britain’s salt, has announced that it will likely have to close its facility in Runcorn, Cheshire, unless it receives government support. Like the rest of the UK’s manufacturing industry, Inovyn is struggling to cope with the UK’s breathtakingly high energy costs and crippling carbon taxes. In other words, Britain’s salt industry is to be sacrificed at the altar of Net Zero.

The decline of salt would be an economic disaster. The chemical and pharmaceutical industry is one of the largest manufacturers in the UK. Salt, which is used in 90 per cent of pharmaceuticals, is a vital component in a surprising number of everyday products. Only the food industry contributes more to the domestic economy – and the food industry also needs high-quality salt, for taste and preservative reasons.
Salt is integral to sectors that employ hundreds of thousands of people. The consequences of Britain becoming a net salt importer will have a huge impact on these industries. Salt is difficult to store and transport. That is the major reason why chemical plants are located very close to the point of production. Those chemical and pharmaceutical industries that depend on local supplies will, inevitably, either close down or relocate closer to salt sources. If Runcorn goes, don’t expect the chemicals industry or pharmaceuticals to survive in this country.

Salt is a vital part of an integrated industrial supply chain. And that is what Britain had, for most of the 20th century, in the shape of Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI). ICI was, for decades, the largest manufacturer in the UK. It owned and operated plants, production and distribution along the entire supply chain, from salt extraction in Cheshire to Dulux paint in your local hardware store.
When ICI was still in business, the less profitable elements were maintained because they fed the valuable downstream activities. Since the demise of ICI in 2008, the separated upstream operations like salt production have been allowed to decline, following years of underinvestment.

While demand for salt and its derivatives has fallen, that cannot be seen in isolation. It has been a long time coming. The removal of ICI’s integrated supply of salt and derivatives has led production of cosmetics, chemicals and pharmaceuticals to move elsewhere. If the Runcorn plant closes, a full sector collapse will inevitably follow.
Inovyn is part of INEOS, whose owner, Jim Ratcliffe, is hardly short of a bob or two. I would argue that Inovyn should be recognised as a key, national strategic asset. There is a case for public funding. But we should avoid the normal no-strings giveaway with which we have become all too familiar. It should be co-investment, matched by the owners and interested parties from the private sector more widely.

Pleas to change the current government’s entire energy strategy in order to rescue Runcorn will fall on deaf ears. But calls for targeted support for Runcorn may be better received – especially if the current government wants to have a fighting chance of reclaiming the local parliamentary seat from Reform UK.
To allow Runcorn to close – and lose 50 per cent of Britain’s salt production – would be a catastrophic folly. The UK is already far too vulnerable to the slings and arrows of international events. We must not allow salt to join the manufacturing funeral procession.
I've also seen that Denby pottery might close down, they are calling for people to support them and buy pottery from them. We are genuinely going to lose our entire industry at this rate holy shit. M&S is saying that electricity is now 50% of their costs. At what point do we see industry and business leaders take a stand against the government?

ETA: rest of article

Also jfc I told the GP's office I wanted to see either of the two white women, a Dr and a Nurse respectively, and I didn't care how long I had to wait. I've been booked in for some phonecall with a brown. Fuck my life. What's the point of the request system then

We have decided that the major supply chain issues we had during covid because some woman blocked a major shipping lane will inspire our future policy going forward. We must respect all women's decisions so we're going to make it so an essential part of the food chain must now be strictly imported and not made at all at home. Then next time a woman fucks up the entire global trade network we can all die from a lack of salt.

The online booking lets you select your doctor. If you can't do that ring the doctors and specifically ask for one doctor. If you insist on just the one they will give you it. If you offer them choices they will pick whichever brown faggot they have brought in for the week.

So relaxing. I had a bit I’d done framed recently and it’s nice to look at. If you ever fancy something really really long term and epic have a look at some of the scarlet quince ones. There’s a few of old tapestries that are insane
I shall do thank you. The last piece I did was a holbein one of the shipping forecast map on 22 count evenweave. I saved it for over the summer because of better light and I am really glad I did, it was a stinker. As you say though, looks lovely when they're framed doesn't it?

You're a faggot and probably a cheater.

It's not about being angry. It's a fitting punishment for a crime. Cheating is wrong on every level. There is never an excuse for it, you never had to cheat. If you end up getting killed for it then there's one less scum bag in the world and that's a good thing.
How very Muslim of you.

Oh that is sad… I do need a new teapot so will maybe get a Denby one.
Its deliberate - high energy prices equal ruined industry. We MUST start building safe thorium type reactors. Any politician who doesn’t move towards energy independence is a traitor.

They really are. You’re right about the light though. I have a huge one I managed about three pages of and then rolled up and put away and I can’t face what it does to my eyes. I keep thinking I’ll do it when i retire but I doubt I will…

I’ve always wanted to live close enough to the sea or a lake to actually hear it from the house.
Living near the sea is actually the worst for ambient noise, I had to stop at a hotel on the coast once and any potential calmness is eradicated by the constant fucking SQUARK of seagulls. I hate those fucking retarded flying rats.

Oh I guess it is in towns… it’s never been an issue in non urban places I’ve stayed but yeah…

Believe me you do not want to live by those dirty fucking vermin, they WILL shit on your head, they WILL shit on your car, they WILL be the most loud and obnoxious fucking thing for hours at a time and they WILL all congregate around the trash and faecal matter buildup caused by third worlders.

We are still talking about gulls..?

Was checking on northampton news after it came up in the week and I remembered Reform are in. They just had a council meeting where they fucked up every single proposal because.. Cuckservatives bad!

The first motion of the night, proposed by the Conservatives, looked to address the condition of roads across West Northamptonshire and numerous concerns raised around potholes. It asked to establish a ‘Pothole and Highways Task Force’ and called on the cabinet to set out an action plan on the backlog of repairs.
However, in a last-minute turnaround, the motion was withdrawn in light of amendments made to the document by Reform UK. These attributed the state of the highways to “chronic long-term underinvestment by the previous Conservative administration and the former Northamptonshire County Council”.
It also struck out the requests for an action plan and task force, instead resolving that the cabinet member should provide an update on the progress in June and that a scrutiny group should be formed to look at the maintenance.
That's right. Reform wanted to change the bill so it said "The conservatives are responsible not us" and then cut the legs off every single option to solve the problem. And instead set up a group to monitor the situation..

I'm sure the locals are loving their reform council. A simple problem to solve cannot be solved because Reform need to blame someone else for the problem. When they could have just fixed the problem no matter who was to blame and been popular because they fixed the problem.

British politics never changes. It's all children saying "He did it not me!"

"No sentence can undo the trauma of what she endured. But we hope today marks the beginning of her journey toward the bright, safe, and happy future she deserves," the judge told the court.
I know a sentence that can at least make her safer.
"He was planning on attending university to study economics but for a variety of reasons, he came under the focus of the Taliban, as did his family, and that is the reason he ultimately fled the country," he said.
Ok. Why? Why did the taliban focus on you? I don't doubt that the terrorist group would randomly try to fuck with people like that, kinda the point, but to be the focus of them? Idk. What exactly did you do to warrant that? What caused that? And is it something that maybe the public would not want to hear?
The judge said her sentence reached the threshold for Mulakhil to be deported after it had been served.
Great. So he gets to stay here and enjoy 8 years of the tax payer paying for his existence only to be shat out at the end of that? The punishment should be being sent back to the shithole you came from and letting their 'courts' decide if they should stone or behead you. I do not want my fucking wages going to paying for fucking rapists that have literally no right to be in this country to be housed and fed.
Is it actually net zero or is it just pushing our pollution onto some other shithole that will do the exact same that we do but even worse for the environment? You know, like fuel, and steel, and concrete, and glass, and I can just fucking name literally anything and feel confident in being correct without feeling the need to even attempt to check what I say because it's fucking everything. I love net zero plans that do literally nothing but add transport at the very minimum. I know that shipping is better for the environment that trains or lorries but still and it still has to go on a train or a lorry to get around the country like it already would have.
For every suggestion of nuclear Ed Milifag signs off 20 more windmills being replaced with newer windmills.
I will never not mention this but wind turbine blades are made of fibreglass. Half of that is resin, ie plastic that is completely impossible to reuse at all and glass fibres which are recyclable but if they're not then it's not exactly great for the environment to have little shards of glass leaking into the soil. Normally you can burn plastics, they are basically just a solid form of oil after all, but the extra shit that goes into making resins makes the fumes incredibly fucking bad for literally everything and even if you could burn them then the glass fibres in there would clog the burners. So there are entire graveyards, mainly in the Australian outback, that are just fucking acres upon acres of fibreglass turbine blades that just sit there slowly leeching shit into the soils because there is nothing we can do with them. Admittedly, not a turbine exclusive issue but shit like plane wings aren't touted as being able to fix the environment they help to pollute. At least the concrete and metals that go into a nuclear reactor are not going to cause any problems, the floor is already made of rocks and metals, not fibreglass.
Living near the sea is actually the worst for ambient noise, I had to stop at a hotel on the coast once and any potential calmness is eradicated by the constant fucking SQUARK of seagulls. I hate those fucking retarded flying rats.
Is that not everywhere? Seagulls are worse than normal birds but it's not like all the songbirds waking up at about fucking 4am to chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp exactly helps me sleep. At least seagulls are kinda cool. They look nice and they do add to the atmosphere. But then you get to pigeons and they're also protected or some shit. Can kill an actual rat and no one bats and eye but when you go Devvo mode and try to club a pigeon in the middle of town suddenly people care about animals or some shit.

I hate women and I hate labour.

ITV news story just now. "The government needs to apologise to women for single teenage mothers having to give up their new borns for adoption in the past". Don't we have bigger problems to deal with than something decades old? But no, we're got some stupid CUNT who just said "If the government doesn't apologize to me then I will feel guilty and feel it's still my fault". I will repeat, STUPID CUNT. If you're this retarded that you need an unrelated group of people to apologize to you about the past or you can't accept it you're too retarded to raise a child. You knew the price of being a single teenage mother in that era, you chose to have sex and your kid was put up for adoption. You are at fault, you fucked, you had the kid. Labour saying they're sorry means nothing. It's like me saying Sorry Warwick Davis, you were born tiny and look like a shaved ewok. It's meaningless, pointless, stupid even.

It sucks you had your baby taken off you, but if you're a 70 year old woman and you still can't deal with it without a totally unrelated group apologizing you should be thrown off a cliff for being too thick to be of use to any one.

Starmer was on the segment mummbling "eh em um euh we need to do it right er im um er the activists matter and we we want to do it um we right because it's important". Utter twat who can't even say sorry without a lawyer double checking him and his rent boy. The womans retarded, Labours retarded, ITV is retarded. I am way too annoyed over pointless bullshit. But I see this country going to shit and now a top priority is to wank ourselves to death over historical events long since passed done by people long since dead. So batty old middle class women can forgive themselves for being a teenage slut.

Someone put the kettle on, I'll go get the bickies.

Is Ed milliband the one who just so happens to have a lot of land to be used for green energy which is why he's so on board with this crap because he stands to make a lot of money out of it?
Well his name is quite literally 'a million thousand pounds' so you'd expect him to have at least some sort of scheme, you don't become a billionare for no reason. That or he uses the land to fill it with loads of dead rotting wood and leaves and I think that's what millipedes like.

Every politician stands to make a lot of money from 'green' quackery. The ones that don't have land they could use public money to 'invest' in retrofitting into 'renewable' energy farms are just being paid off by the saudis and their oil money anyways. I mean just look at the roof solar shit, wasn't that in the tens of thousands to slap some solar panels on a roof and shove a plug into a socket, how did that cost so much and where did that money go?
