A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I'm on the fence about whether the orders 'came from above' or whether the Notts Police force lackeys didn't want to be accused of doing a racism by the higher ups or media and attempted to bury the case as fast as possible, their response has been so idiotic and short sighted and against every code of conduct it can only come from some middle manager when asked what to do about those pesky next of kin asking questions.
I said it at the time but it was a rough collection of victims for the "don't look back in anger" mob. When an upper middle class white and non-white person get murdered by a lunatic non-white on the street because keeping him away from the wider public is racist it's immediately bad news. White victim the family can be shamed into silence with insinuations of destroying their life with racism accusations if they're merely middle class or ignored if they are a lesser class in the eyes of the law (the victim I did not mention).

Non-white killed as well? Connected to the other victim so the families may interact? Also upper-middle? Not so easy to shut up. Made worse by what Sanjoy was, namely someone able to spot the slimy moves at play.

I think it's worse than either of your two ideas. This is simply the standard play in this sort of situation. It was just the wrong targets in this case which means there's hundreds of times it worked.

I can stand all weather conditions bar hail. Rain isn't that bad because you get used to it in England to the point where there's been times where I've just casually strolled home in a sogging wet t-shirt because being an overprepared anorak is for faggots... but hail? That's actively trying to hurt you for no fucking reason.

I think the worst I've ever seen was nearly the size of golf balls, it'd have completely bodied Glenda, 97 if old people actually existed in public after 9:30am.

I like rain. It's quiet and calming. It's nice to walk in or just to listen on the roof. I used to put on 10 hour rain videos as background noise while pottering around the house.

It's the only way I can get a woman wet.

You only hear that sort of thing if you actively seek hail. Otherwise it's just a snowjob.
What is a snowjob? Do I need a plow?

I like rain noises. Very relaxing. You can get all sorts of natural noise for eight hours type things on you tube to sleep to. I’ve always wanted to live close enough to the sea or a lake to actually hear it from the house. There’s a stand of aspens near me and in the summer with the windows open I can hear that lovey rattle their leaves do. We all need more natural sound and less traffic noise.
I'm having a quiet one sewing.
Anything fun? I haven’t done any for a while but I’ve got the half term week off and I may just clear the work shit off my desk and break out the machine …

Ooh yes it is. If you look up "Riolis plum blossom", that's the kit I've got at the moment. I like their stuff, and I especially like blackwork pieces.

I can't really manage proper embroidery but I love cross stitch. Very soothing and you get something beautiful at the end of it.

Remember when Doctor Who was one of the biggest franchises on the planet? This is a convention line for an autograph with the first female Doctor. Other lines had the entire area full to the brim 6 wide. She couldn't manage 20 people at prime time.

The Afghan asylum seeker who abducted and raped a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton has been jailed for 16 years. Emphasis mine, archive not working so > https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4g4x2zyer2o original article
An asylum seeker who abducted and raped a 12-year-old girl has been given a 16-year sentence.

The attack by Afghan national Ahmad Mulakhil last summer led to protests in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

Jurors last month found the 23-year-old guilty of rape, abduction, sexual assault and taking an indecent video.

He also pleaded guilty to a count of rape of a child under 13 ahead of the hearing at Warwick Crown Court in February.

Mulakhil was told he would serve 15 years in prison and an extra 12 months on licence.

Judge Kristina Montgomery KC, passing sentence at the same court, said the girl had suffered "psychological harm" as a result of his attack, with ongoing trauma and medical issues.

She said the girl had been "left alone in the park in the darkness" after the attack, she was very distressed and was "looking over her shoulder" to see if her attacker would return.

"No sentence can undo the trauma of what she endured. But we hope today marks the beginning of her journey toward the bright, safe, and happy future she deserves," the judge told the court.

Judge Montgomery said Mulakhil had "targeted" the girl on 22 July after meeting her earlier.

"Footage from a security camera caught an exchange between you in which you asked your victim to tell you her age," she told him.

"She said she was 19, which was an obvious lie.

"Your reaction was incredulous and the jury's verdict leaves no doubt that you knew she was aged under 16."

Jurors at the 10-day trial heard evidence from the victim who said Mulakhil laughed while attacking her.

The judge told him: "There is no dispute that your culpability is at the highest level."
The defendant, who came to the UK on a small boat four months before the offences, showed no emotion and stared ahead at barristers and the judge during the hearing, appearing to be listening intently to his interpreter.

Defending Mulakhil, Marcus Harry said he arrived in the UK when he was 22 after fleeing Afghanistan.

"He was planning on attending university to study economics but for a variety of reasons, he came under the focus of the Taliban, as did his family, and that is the reason he ultimately fled the country," he said.

The judge said her sentence reached the threshold for Mulakhil to be deported after it had been served.

He was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

The judge said factors including that Mulakhil had abducted the girl and taken her to a secluded location as well as the harm she had suffered gave a "very significant uplift" to the sentence time.

But she also took into account his age, that he had no previous convictions and his guilty plea to one offence.

He was given concurrent sentences for his crimes, including four years for child abduction and two for taking an indecent video.

Mulakhil faced trial alongside Mohammad Kabir, also an asylum seeker from Afghanistan, who was acquitted of all charges.
Cover-up claims

The case prompted changes to guidance on reporting the nationality and immigration status of people arrested and charged.

The arrests of the men had led to Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and Warwickshire County Council leader George Finch claim there had been a "cover-up" of details about the attack.

At the time, Warwickshire Police said once someone was charged with an offence, the force followed national guidance that did not include sharing ethnicity or immigration status.

Days later, police were encouraged to consider disclosing the ethnicity and nationality of suspects charged in high-profile cases.

After the sentencing, Det Ch Insp Collette O'Keefe, who led the investigation, said: "When Mulakhil carried out this horrific attack on a young girl, not only did he commit the most serious of crimes he breached the fundamental values that hold our communities together.

"I want to pay tribute to the extraordinary courage of the victim.

"Her account allowed us to gather the evidence we needed to ensure Mulakhil was brought to justice."

I love cross stitch.
So relaxing. I had a bit I’d done framed recently and it’s nice to look at. If you ever fancy something really really long term and epic have a look at some of the scarlet quince ones. There’s a few of old tapestries that are insane
