A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Absolute speedrun into irrelevancy as a religion. I actually respect the niggers for trying to keep it going in the original spirit, but nah just let it go at this point. Turn all the churches into Wetherspoons and at least let me get spiritual nourishment from a pint of Doom Bar for under three quid.

Marshmallows it is, then!

Counting is the last thing Dianne Abbot should be allowed to do!

(Though even her maths is probably second to the glorious clanger of "On the whole, Chairman Mao probably did more good than bad." )

Just for you mate!

It’s nice to still feel relevant occasionally 🥲

Having the thing plugged into the tv when your mum wanted to watch Crossroads was a fate worse than death, though.

Getting a pint of anything (including water) for under £3 is absolute dream world, currently. Died and gone to heaven shit, which is probably why churches should be doing that stuff.

I want to say I’m glad my Catholic Church hasn’t got so stupid, but I’m not convinced. At least my parish priest is as old school as they come. Shame most of the Catholics nowadays are Polish immigrants.

The Valdo Calocane inquiry is interesting, Notts Police seem genuinely pissed off with the victims families from the get go and tested them for drugs. One of the victims also found out his dad was dead via instagram, not from police.

Something strange about this incident. It seems like one of the first cases where the victims’ families eventually all rejected the nudge unit/family liaison officer Don’t Look Back in Anger script and coincidentally the authorities also seem callous and vindictive towards them.

In Farnham Royal a leafy, middle-class village to the NW of Slough will house migrants. Verdon Court, a block of flats has been brought, at a cost of £4 million. Residents are furious, as you can see in the video. There is a major protest on Monday 6th April.
One to watch. Seems to be a lot of Crowborough residents in the tweets surrounding this offering advice and tips; the Crowborough patrols are still ongoing.

New Archbishop got sworn in.

Whole thing disgusted me.
One of the huge issues in Anglicanism is that the Church is entwined with the state. That means whatever the state believes the church has to follow. To the point where any change to the rules in the Church in England are hosted on the Government legislation website because it is effectively a state law.

Also, since 2015 if a spiritual lord position is free'd up it MUST be filled by a woman: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lords_Spiritual_(Women)_Act_2015

Unlike Catholicism however local parishes can effectively ignore anything the archbishop says, many churches will actually refuse her entry and she will need to send a substitute cuck priest in her place.

Basically, Anglicanism needs to separate itself from the UK government, it will rid itself of these grifters that honestly see it as some kind of NGO charity gig. Get quite a few of those in the church these days. Fortunately though the younger generations can be quite Zealous and Conservative and the church is having a minor internal freak out over it because they know as Church attendance lowers and those actually attending do so because they believe, the more the church will be forced to reverse many of the modern government changes forced onto it.

So the Army is finally getting rid of the Land Rover Defender. https://www.forcesnews.com/services...drawal-land-rover-after-over-70-years-service

Kind of seems like a waste of money to me. Sure the Defender isn't suitable for front line duty but it hasn't been used as such in years. As a light non combat logistics/transport/specialists vehicle it's fine. I mean the most suitable replacement in the light category is the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series based Babcock entry imo and that isn't that much better than the old Defender in terms of protection. I suppose the Defender is getting long in the tooth and LR isn't making them anymore so there's an argument for something with more manufacturer support. Saying that, the Defender isn't hard to fix or get spares for. Maybe I'm wrong but I think there's still a place for the old Land Rover in the military and if we can save some money then why not keep it around?

I might get one at auction when they finally go. I've been looking into getting a proper 4x4. I've owned a 1st gen 3 door Freelander that was a surprisingly capable SUV. My dad owned a Series 3 long wheelbase that I helped him rebuild so I'm familiar with these vehicles. If I'm honest with myself I love Land Rover but they're money pits lol.

Very interesting. And interesting too to hear the quote about the form - see when someone knows a little bit about something (he’s a GP I assume?) you get these things come out that a regular pleb might not see. It does seem vindictive, it does seem like they were trying to create a narrative of her being on drugs to trash her.
As with everything like this I’m interested in where the orders come from. In how much is a self sustaining system, and how much is directed from above. And where from above.

Bodging and ad-hoc repairs are fine for the average land rover owner, but you don't want that in a military vehicle. You want a reliable supplier that will still exist six months from now.

Snatch was meant to be retired last year. It was strictly meant to be retired 20 years ago, but they kept extending its lifespan in order to avoid having to think about a replacement for something so mundane. The MoD and the senior staff are all about big ticket items like Ajax. Boring things like troop transports and LPPVs aren't given priority, which is why Snatch was originally going to be replaced with a German box van, until someone pointed out how stupid it was to put an infantry squad in a cab-forward van with a flat bottom and no windows.

What's really galling is that the MoD was actually trialling a viable replacement for Snatch during the Kosovo war, in the form of the Mamba, which was the predecessor of basically all modern MRAPs. It was small and light enough to serve in the same role as Snatch, with better armour and more reliable crew protection from mines and IEDs - something Snatch later suffered from immensely in Afghanistan and Iraq. The MoD concluded the trial at the end of the war, declared Mamba was superior to Snatch in every way, then sold them all off to a mercenary unit and continued with Snatch instead. They "fixed" the mine resistance problem by welding a thick armoured panel to the floor, which just created more shrapnel when it inevitably hit a mine.

It seems the police told the widow of the caretaker that he was first killed by a van/drunk driver, and only admitted 5 hours later he was stabbed by Calocane. When she said she was struggling with grief, they advised her to 'get a dog'. She was also forced to watch footage of the attacker when she said she didn't want to. His sons were not allowed to go to the council led vigil.
The police also told the families that the other families 'didn't want to be contacted'; only once the families got in touch with each other did they realise how much the police had stitched them up. I'm on the fence about whether the orders 'came from above' or whether the Notts Police force lackeys didn't want to be accused of doing a racism by the higher ups or media and attempted to bury the case as fast as possible, their response has been so idiotic and short sighted and against every code of conduct it can only come from some middle manager when asked what to do about those pesky next of kin asking questions.

I expect that one or two of the victims family members will be pictured with Restore UK soon, same as Ms Whyte has been after her daughter's murder was completely ignored.
The EU also recently passed the new regulations on removal, I wonder if that will affect Keirs eagerness to get back into the EU?

I assume that's what the problem is. I'd be happy if they adopted Babcock's Toyota Land Cruiser based 4x4 or the Ford Ranger based one. Also, please someone talk me out of getting a Land Rover. I know it's a bad idea and there's a million other better 4x4s out there but I'm going to make a mistake.

Chassis repairs are easy. There is an infinite amount of spare parts and knowledge. You’ll look cooler and more financially secure, Richard Hammond will add you as a friend on facebook and you’ll get at least 3 numbers on every lottery ticket.

I'm not sure winning the lottery is worth having to deal with Richard Hammond. He was always the squeaky twat they used as a punching bag between the two hosts with talent.
