A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

It's going to eventually end up just being a horse drawn coal carriage at this rate.
I’m afraid that coal is illegal because burning just one lump of it kills entire continents. Likewise, using horses for anything other than tickling behind the ears and feeding the occasional organic carrot is also illegal (probably, anyway) because using any other living being than humans to do your bidding is genocide and a war crime.

Carriages don’t comply with the Highway Code, either. You’re shit out of luck, pal. Just walk. Don’t forget not to report getting mugged by an immigrant, because that’s racist!

It removes a scum bag from the world and teaches a lesson to others about the cost of cheating. Which is exactly what we need in our country. Remove the scum, everyone else will want to avoid the same fate and the behaviour disappears.

It's called being white. It's how we've always dealt with problems like this.
I would contest going all eye for an eye makes it more of a Semitic solution, our old ways of dealing with such things are much more legalistic, everything has a were-price afterall, and reducing to a "just the way things should be" misses the wider moral argument, but culpability is boring anyway especially when we really should be unaliving more people (legally).

The 'everything has a price' culture emerged because we literally wouldn't stop killing each other. Pretty much all 'politeness' culture seems to exist purely because it came from the unending, unceasingly brutal murder circles we kept forming.

I would like for my enemies to be dead. I'm sorry for this controversial statement, but it's how I feel.

The white thing to do would be to instil a deep sense of shame and ostracise such a person from the community. Killing for cheating would be leaning more toward nigger behaviour, but I suppose it's just what you Indians like doing and really who am I as a colonising Brit to suggest anything else?

Might want to learn some history. Killing or mutilating the face of cheaters was the lawful way to deal with it in our past.

Flagged in the Antifa thread, former Labour councillor and Hope Not Hate activist gets a suspended sentence for his pedo behaviour.

A paedophile Labour councillor who was joined on the campaign trail by Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves before he was caught in an undercover sting has avoided jail.

Liron Velleman, 30, used the alias 'Tim Graham 95' to send sexual messages and nude photographs on an online chatroom and Snapchat to a police officer posing as a 13-year-old girl named Kaylee.

The British-Israeli father-of-one struck up a conversation with the girl at the start of December 2024 on messaging service Chatib.

Prosecutor Edmund Blackman said despite being told from the start she was 13, Velleman 'maintained an interest in her' and moved the chat to Snapchat where 'it became sexual quite quickly'.

In message exchanges between December 3 and 10, 2024, the former Hope Not Hate activist and member of the Jewish Labour Movement stripped down to his underwear and pressured the girl to send pictures of herself in her underwear.

He demanded the child show him her bra and her school uniform, asked if she was a virgin and if she was home alone.

The depraved messages continued over the course of several days, during which Velleman talked about sex acts before sending a video of his penis, Mr Blackman said.

Velleman, of North Finchley, was elected as a Labour councillor for Barnet's Whetstone ward in 2022 but resigned from the role with no explanation in April 2025, which is now understood to have been after his arrest for child sex offences.

Labour immediately suspended Velleman when it was notified of his arrest.

In February, he pleaded guilty having been charged with attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause a child aged 13 to 15 to look at an image of sexual activity.

Appearing at Southwark Crown Court on Friday supported by his parents, he was handed an eight-month prison sentence suspended for the next 15 months and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for the next 10 years.

Judge James Lofthouse also ordered him to carry out 180 hours of community service and 20 rehabilitation days as part of his suspended prison sentence.

He will be under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the next 10 years, and must also pay £150 in costs and a £187 victim surcharge.

During sentencing, Judge James Lofthouse told Velleman: 'You know you have no one to blame for the disintegration of your personal and professional life but yourself.

'This is where your reckless, vile and frankly devious interest in children has led you.'

After his guilty plea in February, The Daily Mail revealed Velleman had been joined on the campaign trail by Keir Starmer and eight ministers.

Sir Keir has deleted a social media post showing he campaigned for Velleman to be elected as a councillor in 2018.

The then-shadow Brexit secretary tagged him in an X post seen by the Mail that said: 'Great to campaign with you [Velleman] – you deserve to win. Good luck!'

Photographs show four now Cabinet ministers campaigning for Velleman in 2022, when he was elected in Barnet, north London.

Then shadow chancellor Ms Reeves described him as 'brilliant' at a Labour Friends of Israel event that November.

And in April that year, Shabana Mahmood shared a picture on X of her with Velleman with the comment: 'Brilliant to be out campaigning in Whetstone ward in Barnet yesterday for [Velleman].'

The Home Secretary, Chancellor, Health Secretary Wes Streeting, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, courts minister Sarah Sackman KC, victims minister Alex Davies-Jones, employment minister Diana Johnson and school standards minister Georgia Gould all also campaigned for him that year.
None were ministers at the time but some were in the shadow cabinet, including Sir Keir and Ms Reeves. Velleman, 30, who quit his role as a councillor with no explanation in April last year, has also been pictured with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

There is no suggestion the PM, Sir Sadiq or any minister knew of the offences when they endorsed him.

In February, Labour condemned his 'sickening crime' and said 'nobody could be aware of his future conduct'.

But Tory MP Jack Rankin said: 'Starmer pledged to tackle violence against women and girls, yet sex offenders threaten to be the defining issue of his premiership.'

In a statement released in January, advocacy group Hope Not Hate, where Velleman worked as a junior employee until early 2023, said: 'HOPE not hate fully condemn these heinous crimes and believe that he should rightfully be punished under the full force of the law.'

It added: 'HOPE not hate has had no contact with Velleman since before his arrest.'

According to a now deleted biographical profile on Holocaust education program Echoes and Reflection's website, Velleman's grandfather was a Holocaust survivor from Poland.

It goes on to say Velleman 'grew up in a Jewish and Zionist household, attended Jewish primary and secondary schools, and was an active member of New North London Synagogue'.

He studied at the University of Leeds where he gained a degree in politics in 2016.

During his time at university, Velleman became 'very involved' in the Jewish Society and the Union of Jewish Students.

In 2017, he spoke out about anti-Semitism at British universities, telling MPs: 'A number of campuses have Holocaust denial literature posted on university noticeboards. We have swastikas drawn on cars – this is not something I expected in 2017.

'We need a serious conversations about what the swastika is. It's either being seen as a casual symbol of fun which is pretty horrifying, or people are using it as a legitimate way to attack people.'
Because I don't want to be accused of anti-Semitism I decided joke lawyer Akhmed Yakoob deserved time in the sun again after he got arrested recently.

A former political candidate said he has been arrested on suspicion of racially abusing a police officer during a demonstration.
Akhmed Yakoob, who stood as an Independent candidate for the West Midlands mayoral election and the general election in 2024, told BBC News he was arrested on Thursday.
He said it related to a live stream he was running at the demonstration on 10 March and disputed the action by police, saying he was unlawfully arrested.
West Midlands Police confirmed a 38-year-old was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence at about 18:00 GMT on Hospital Street, Birmingham, and has since been released on bail.

In a statement, the force said it was aware of social media comments suggesting the arrest was connected to the burning of an Israeli flag on 5 March at another demonstration on Hospital Street.
"That is not the case. The investigation into the flag burning continues, and we are liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service," a spokesperson said.
"We respect people's right to protest and express views, without intimidating individuals, communities or breaking the law."
Something I didn't know is he's an Andrew Tate fan. It's odd, the BBC and others love mentioning Tate every chance they can get but when it comes to men of certain religious leaning or ethnicity who have expressed fondness for his ideology they don't casually drop it into every mention of him. I had to go back to 2024 to find an article.
An Independent candidate standing in the general election has apologised after remarks he made about women were labelled “misogynistic” and “disturbing”.

Akhmed Yakoob made the comments during the recording of a podcast called Minted Minds, while appearing alongside the host and four other guests.

The Muslim Women’s Network has condemned the “deeply disturbing” statements and urged parliamentary candidates to commit to improving the safety of women in all communities.

Mr Yakoob, who is hoping to represent Ladywood in Birmingham, has said he is "mortified" and "the tone of that discussion represents everything I stand against".
The two-hour podcast episode aired in March, hosted by Birmingham-based business owner Abdhul Zaman, brought together voices from across the city to discuss Palestine and the Israel-Gaza war.

However, the conversation between Mr Yakoob, Hall Green Independent candidate Shakeel Afsar, Dr Asif Munaf, Coventry-based restaurant owners Mohammed “Sunny” Sarnwal and Waqas “Vic” Mohammed veered onto the topic of masculinity and women.

When Dr Munaf suggested that followers of Dajjaal – a false messiah in Islam – would be women who had been “empowered”, Mr Yakoob responded with: “70% of hell is going to be women”.

While discussing their perceptions of gender roles, the criminal law solicitor said: “I’ve got nothing against women, I love women, I love my wife.

"But everyone has got a role in society, everyone has got a role in the household. In my household, I’m the man, I’m the king. I call the shots, and my Mrs, Alhamdulillah, listens to me and is appreciative.

He later added: “It’s natural for men to be attracted to females, so keep our queens at home.”

While the comments were edited out of the final cut of the episode that appears on the Minted Minds’ YouTube page, a full version of the conversation has circulated online. The BBC has listened to the unedited copy of the podcast.

The parliamentary hopeful, dubbed the "TikTok lawyer”, sent shockwaves through the region after winning nearly 70,000 votes - the third highest - in the West Midlands mayoral election.

He has used his platform campaign as an advocate for people in Gaza and Kashmir, as well as voicing support for pro-Khalistan figures.
After the comments came to light, the Muslim Women’s Network issued a public statement which said the “spread of misogynistic attitudes online and in public discussions fuels violence against women and girls.”

A spokesperson for the charity said: “With women making up half of the population in every constituency and many areas having a significant number of Muslim women voters, their voices will be pivotal in this general election.

“We strongly encourage all women to closely examine candidates' positions on crucial issues such as violence against women and girls (VAWG) and equality.

“We also urge all parliamentary candidates to condemn violence against women and girls (VAWG) and misogyny, and to commit to improving the safety of women in all communities.”

Mr Yakoob, who has more than 195,000 followers on TikTok, has previously shared videos in support Andrew Tate, a controversial influencer who is currently awaiting trial in Romania on charges of human trafficking and rape.

'Fighting misogyny ally'

Addressing the podcast comments, Mr Yakoob said: “I am mortified to listen back to this recording. While banter in an informal setting can often be crude, I should have refused to take part, since the tone of that discussion represents everything I stand against.

“Voters in Ladywood will not fall for attempts to distract them from the tens of thousands of civilian women who have been killed in Gaza.

“But I have learned lessons from this and wish to wholeheartedly apologise. My promise to the women of Ladywood is that, in fighting misogyny, they will always have an ally in me.”
The candidates running in Birmingham Ladywood are:

  • Green - Zoe Challenor
  • Liberal Democrat - Lee Dargue
  • Labour - Shabana Mahmood
  • Conservative - Shaz Muzammil
  • Independent - Akhmed Yakoob
  • Reform UK - Irene Yoong-Henery
Horrifying thought. This guy came close to beating out Shabana Mahmood. Just think what might be happening right now if he was in her position.

I don't know why you would ever groom a 13 year old. Get a midget if you want to fuck someone tiny. You'd have to be retarded to get involved with any one saying they're under 16/18 online. It's either going to be a honey pot or end up with you being done for being a pedo if you do end up with a real teenager.

Polling done in Scotland for 2029GE. Labour not even getting one seat will be very funny. Reform not getting any seats due to the function of FPTP and not being as popular here compared to England & Wales. SNP sweeping due to Labour royally shitting the bed and also I imagine that Reform will be splitting the vote with the Tories which will allow the SNP to sneak in.

Polling was also done for the Scottish Parliament elections. SNP will be the top party again (shocker) with Greens second, Reform third and Labour fourth. Not sure if they will reach a majority or not but some polls have them between 60-65 seats recently.

In even funnier news. The Your Party won't be standing for Holyrood due to chaotic behind the scenes, being an unorganised mess and having very limited goals in mind. Mostly blaming the English Party for not giving a shit about Scotland not giving them what they need resource wide. They are pretty much just a slightly bigger SWP but even more unorganised.

Maybe controversial but Rule Britannia I kinda don't like it. It's too high pitched and orchestral and the flow is weird. It just sounds like that one song they used for a recent Bond film that no one liked. Compare that to something like God save the Queen or even just Scotland the Brave, way better. Like there's something good there but it just doesn't hit properly.
I'm still wondering when England will get their own anthem for their sports teams at this point. Surely there is enough public support to have one.
It's going to eventually end up just being a horse drawn coal carriage at this rate.
Sounds too expensive. it will end up being Handcars

Was this prick also not the one that heavily advocated for the Online Safety Bill too? Sounds about right that he would be a pedo if that's the case.

Looks at USPG2: isn't it funny how they are obsessed with Captain Planet?

Provided evidence in support of it and apparently helped draft it.

I don't know if your comment about needing Jesus is tongue in cheek or not,but you're right. We really do. Secularism has destroyed the UK. Churches used to be what underpinned a community. Now, especially with the CofE Baptizing boat vermin on false pretences, the church is actively hurting communities.

I honestly don't know what the way out of this mess is but it's not going to solve itself. And it's not helped by swathes of people whose beliefs are anathema to our own being allowed to flood in.

The church is one of the groups encouraging and aiding the invasion. The entire religious system of this country has to be stripped out, burnt and started fresh. Christianity has become a weapon against our people and it's one of the major groups enabling the smaller invasion spots. The church will act as support for the foreigners because it's "the christian thing to do".

Happy Nowruz everyone!

I'm pretty sure we have no Iranians employed at my work, but someone has seen fit to put little laminated signs up in our coffee area wishing us a happy nowruz and explaining what it is. So now you all need to suffer along with me.
