A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I went there many years ago because it took my montly savings from 50 quid a month, to over 2000 a month, and cleared all of my debt within a couple of years, and left me a firm foundation from which to build up the rest of my adult life.
It wasn't a fun two years, and most people who move or live there are cunts, but the cash was worth it.
The only difference between then and now, is that there isn't cash worth going for now.

You might be the only person I’ve heard say they lived in Dubai who I think is normal and decent.

Community alert thread has shown 2 mass shootings relating to it in America so far. Stuff like this makes me hesitant to go near public places or public transport for a while.

RAF Fairford? That's only used for air shows. They do have places to park (and hide) the B2 stealths though, and the runway is long enough for the AWACS, C130, Antonov and B2. Odd choice when there are other bases, including two joint yankoid ones.

To play both sides, he can allow the USA to use our bases to avoid looking weak on the international stage now the French and Germans are having fun (and rumours are the UK Generals all fucking hate him) and not piss off the USA further; but as long as the RAF isn't doing anything itself, his Muzzie voters will hopefully ignore it (his logic) as he can 'we were pushed into defending ourselves' or some shit.
The huge outpouring of support from the UK Jewish community, as well as the Iranian diaspora, may also play a part; whether you believe he is being told what to do by Da Joos or he feels that the Labour party is losing their support (since Manchester).

Whist I agree with Lowe's assessment of "We have more important things to be spending money on", I have no problem with them doing that if they're picking up the bill. We can be morally allied but financially neutral.
What does piss me off is Starmer acting like we're still a global superpower, and that the UK government's opinion matters.
I believe we have the ability to reclaim that role, but only if stop acting like a bitch and look after our own for a bit.

We are, and it does. Financial sector aside (London/The City is still the bees knees), our top-level, behind-the-scenes strategy and action plans of our military are still the best in the world, second only to Mossad.
This isn't a dig at Jews. Mossad are genuinely the best in the world at what they do, followed by us.
Our recce and intelligence gathering is second only to them as well.

Our power isn't in our projection, it has always been - even during The Empire, the ability to make powerful moves in silence, from the shadows and make them work.
