A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I swear I must have dementia because I've never seen half of you before in this thread till now.

Who are you? I DON'T KNOW THESE PEOPLE!!

Spoke at length with the missus about this Green swing, urdu ad, family voting shit today. She's very Palestine sympathetic, will probably vote Green, and is generally an extremely empathetic person to her own detriment. Found her reactions and opinions to it very interesting (particularly that all she'd heard was that this was a massive win for the Greens, and that alleged Labour van).

The all urdu anti-Modi ad gave her some serious cognitive dissonance when I showed it to her (alongside the obvious gerrymandering to convert the ward from an almost all white bloc to a significantly muslim bloc in 2023).

Based on this I'm cautiously optimistic that the utterly shameless, obviously divisive courting of Muslim voters (while encouraging infighting with the jeets, no less) is going to be a blackpill for at least some of the more open minded libs. I explained this as being barely different to Reform fanning anti-immigrant sentiment for votes. Also a blatant indictment of the multicultural melting pot, your particular diaspora is only catered to if it comprises a considerable and predictable voting movement.

Only thing I couldn't quite get her head around is why family voting would be of particular concern to muslims; I imagine many people just can't wrap their head around the idea that Muslims legitimately just blindly follow whatever their Imam says, and vote on behalf of their illiterate wives.

I think a good way to conceptualise the subtle political acknowledgement of an islamic monolith to people is to point out nobody ever means white people when they talk about "community tensions" nor are there white "community leaders". This verbiage really only ever refers to Muslims.

Just thought it was interesting.

Irish Kiwi and thread tourist passing by with questions for those across the pond. Google tells me that the next general election isn't until 2029, so what votes are taking place now and what is their significance? Based on what I've skimmed here and growing anti-immigrant sentiment I didn't think the Greens were a significant party compared to Reform, Restore or even the Lib Dems for those turned off by leftism. Admittedly I know very little of how UK politics works.
Some local elections, but also a parliamentary by-election, which was triggered by a labour MP resigning his seat after being shown to be a complete tosspot. Everyone's taking it as an informal referendum on the current government and Starmer in particular, and the results for him are generally terrible.

Most Muslim Wives suffer from battered housewife syndrome which is why they go apeshit if their daughter doesn't share the same sentiment for Muslim customs. A majority of Muslims are conservative in their views and If you want to convince your wife that muslims will end up being the worst thing in this island than you will have to share news and history of all the shit that Muslims have done or do that your wife will recoil from disgust or shock.

Just don't be obsessive with it though, you don't want to end up like Graham Linehan who ran his wife and children off because he couldn't shut the fuck about troons all the time.

Labour better hope there's no by election that they can massively lose again before Starmer finally gets ousted. I suppose that's what they get for rejecting Burnham.

Also. is Ian Huntley dead yet? Should have been given the noose decades ago but I'll accept a metal spike to his head instead.

If there isn't a mechanism to oust leaders from their position in the labour party then it's going to be amusing when the infighting occurs when Starmer refuses to be dragged out screaming from his chair. The majority of the labour MPs are shameless opportunistic blairite careerists with some of them unaware that the labour leader position is a posioned chalice.

UK’s first geothermal power plant switches on in Cornwall
The UK’s first ever geothermal power plant will be going live today, bringing a new source of low-carbon energy generation onto the electricity grid.

The United Downs power station, which is being developed by GEL Energy, is based in Cornwall and will produce around 3MW of power. While the amount of energy produced is relatively low compared to other baseload generators, GEL has two additional deep geothermal sites under development, which will deliver a further 10MW by 2030.

The British Geological Survey has calculated that more than 200GW of thermal heat, hot enough to generate power, could be produced from onshore geothermal sources. To put that in perspective, the upcoming Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant will generate around 3.2GW when it comes online in the early 2030s.

Nevertheless, the technology comes with a number of restrictions, with high-temperature geothermal resources mostly located in tectonically active regions, which limits where large-scale projects are viable. Drilling deep wells is also very costly and there is no guarantee that a productive heat well will be discovered.

Given that I'm not a paki I've got no particular interest in controlling her political beliefs. She doesn't see things exactly the way I do but she's far from naïve, just a little sheltered. We just got back from India and that was extremely eye opening for her in terms of how difference in culture extends as far as one's entire moral framework.

Muslims are just the sacred calf in UK politics for a lot of people (particularly assisted by Palestine) and thus are seen as constantly misunderstood and unfairly maligned. It goes without saying of course that they're very well understood, and very fairly maligned. I'd go as far to say most people critical of Islam are far more understanding of it than those that are "understanding" of it.

In a similar vein, I think it is interesting to point out that the majority of white western people who care about Gaza are far more informed about the history of the region and the politics behind it than your average random paki, who largely cares about it due to Muslim brotherhood teaming and disdain for Jews and likely know almost nothing about it outside of that. This is precisely why Green and YP (despite their almost instant implosion) courting Muslim votes is so insidious and short-sighted.

Unfortunately it seems not, the latest is just that he's in serious condition. On the plus side I doubt they're gonna give up trying so maybe 4th time will be the charm.

I don't get why Americans say this a lot when their country is like 25% nigger.
I will personally mint your "Fell for it again" award. The STATE of this thread.

You should be happy that Farage lost. Americans talk too much about things they know less than nothing about.
Im not a burger, Im an anglo of child nation. Its just so depressing to watch those smug muslims chanting and that stupid white bitch dancing like an Indian.

Get the fuck out of our thread, potato nigger.

Millions must go, including you.

This is going to result in dramatic articles in the WSJ, Financial Times, etc. but not economic collapse or anything. It’s a good story for financial papers since it combines large scale fraud, immigration, a hot escape, insolvency proceedings, etc. But don’t expect this to lead to the collapse of Barclays or something.
TBH I would laugh extremely hard if it caused a 2008 like sell-off. I'm sure there's bigger types of fraud (goverment) but the sheer audacity of this dude to just fucking double (triple?) pledge all the assets without remorse is on another level.
