A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

"made in Wales" said things.

I dont agree with it all, but he did raise interesting points,

They won't or can't call an election.

It's Raynor or bust.
They don't want to, but when it's out of their hands then they cannot stop things.

As it stands, should 79 Labour MP's resign the whip that leaves Labour with a hung parliament but still a majority. This would be 78 assuming Labour don't win in Gorton & Denton.

The Government would still have a working majority but Starmer would be under immense pressure to go having done near terminal damage to the party. However, since 2022, it's now up to the PM to call for a GE (or not) it no longer needs 2/3rds of the HoC to vote for one.

I'm not so sure that Starmer won't call one if it's the only way to prevent further damage, not just from Mandelson but from the next big scandal (truth about the Ukraine rent boys maybe?) and the backbenchers may well feel that there's no point in carrying on if the Government cannot pass laws and the business is held up with the latest 'What Keir Did' scandal. Don't forget, they only have 24 or so working days left until the Easter recess in late March which is also the end of this session of Parliament.

A lot of talk and action now has to take place in the next few weeks and Labour are going to have to decide on 'stick' or 'twist'.

Even Welsh Labour are now starting to say that Starmer is a total liability and has to go, yet he has the power to decide not just his fate but the fates of others.

He wants power and control, yes, but I don't think he wants to be PM with all the fallout from what Mandy did, but he also doesn't want anybody else to be PM at the same time.

Astounding how the police are suddenly eager to jail prostitutes when they seem to have any manner of connection to MPs. Meanwhile the pimps in far too many cities continue to traffic women at their usual rate uninterrupted.
Where is Nick Brown?

I dont think it matters whether or not Labour have a majority, I think Starmer wants to retain control. He is finished.

I suspect in the next few hours Sunday Papers will start leaking how the Services (MI5/MI6) warned Downing Street of potential problems with Mandelson.

No one, absolutely no one that has ever read or met or crossed paths with Mandelson thought he would be a candidate for Ambassador. For Starmer to think otherwise is total, complete and utter incompetence or total complete and utter corruption.

Absolutely right, though you'd have to ask which 'grandees' advised Starmer or maybe even 'pressganged' him into appointing 'Mandy'.

Was it McSweeney or was it (as I strongly suspect) Blair and Alastair Campbell?

No, telling you already, this is Broon getting out ahead of a breaking story to set a narrative. He's implicated by association.

It's really up to the back benchers to out Starmer. Starmer knows his time is up but he loves being in power and refuses to give it up no matter what so I can't see him ever standing down on his own volition (as much as I would love to be proven wrong about this).

It's really this or what ever the next scandal he is a part of will out him.

I'm assuming with a name like Adebayo Adeyemi, he's a good old English boy according to our Prime Minister ?
I suppose the BBC did at least mention his tell tale name, that's not like them. Perhaps he's white......
Sounds like he will getting an OBE or a job at the Labour Party. They might not have enough sexual deviants already...

MCSWEENEY RESIGNS AS CHIEF OF STAFF. Letter of resignation
“After careful reflection, I have decided to resign from the government.

The decision to appoint Peter Mandelson was wrong. He has damaged our party, our country and trust in politics itself.

When asked, I advised the Prime Minister to make that appointment and I take full responsibility for that advice. In public life responsibility must be owned when it matters most, not just when it is most convenient. In the circumstances, the only honourable course is to step aside.

This has not been an easy decision. Much has been written and said about me over the years but my motivations have always been simple: I have worked every day to elect and support a government that puts the lives of ordinary people first and leads us to a better future for our great country. Only a Labour government will do that. I leave with pride in all we have achieved mixed with regret at the circumstances of my departure. But I have always believed there are moments when you must accept your responsibility and step aside for the bigger cause.

As I leave I have two further reflections:

Firstly, and most importantly, we must remember the women and girls whose lives were ruined by Jeffrey Epstein and whose voices went unheard for far too long.

Secondly, while I did not oversee the due diligence and vetting process, I believe that process must now be fundamentally overhauled. This cannot simply be a gesture but a safeguard for the future.

I remain fully supportive of the Prime Minister. He is working every day to rebuild trust, restore standards and serve the country. I will continue to back that mission in whatever way I can. It has been the honour of my life to serve”

THIS CAN'T BE REAL

So the four eyed rent boy loving pervert on the right paid the four eyed pedophile loving pervert on the left £55,000 of our money to leave office ?

He paid him for his treachery with 3 months of severance pay. I hope these two burn in hell. Does treason not count as gross misconduct ?

I suppose it figures, treason qualifies you for a bonus in Starmer's eyes.
