A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

@Made In Wales : also school milk. She didn't "take all the milk from the school kids". This policy started with Labour in 1969, with scrapping of milk for senior school kids.

Plenty of reasons to dislike the woman but I can't stand people being wrongly blamed for anything.
Thatcher.....Thatcher......the milk snatcher !

A good slogan can't be wrong. Four legs good, two legs bad.

the chocolate ration has been increased to 20 grams.

She did take it away from little kids though. She didn't have to continue with an unpopular policy.
OTOH school milk was rancid and warm and in hindsight, I don't trust that it wasn't tampered with, considering some of it was tampered with.
Exactly. Not all kids though as I've heard so many people claim. And it was rank, it was totally unsanitary to leave it going cheesey all morning.

I fondly remember milk time when I was a kid in school, it was always chilled, tasted nice and on Fridays they gave us chocolate milk.
Tf did you go to school, some posh place in Hampshire?

The only reason I liked freezing weather as a nipper was because it meant the milk was cold. And I loved drinking milk as a kid. But room temperature milk isn’t that nice, and the smell is even worse.

Still, it did us good and was a lot better for children than squash or Sunny D or whatever they give six year olds in school now (Monster and Carling, probably).

I have given up voting. I will not be forced into voting for a party whose policies I disagree with simply because someone in the past fought for my right to vote. They fought for that right on the understand that we’d have democracy, not a one-idea state with different brand names at the top occasionally. It means my dad refuses to talk to me about politics as ‘if you don’t vote you don’t get a say’, but so be it.

Immigration should be, at a basic level, about affordability for the host country. We can no longer afford immigrants. Not their housing, benefits, healthcare, schooling, and certainly not the social and legal problems they bring with them. I don’t believe that should be considered ‘racist’ because it covers all races (and skin colours). It’s pure practicality. Anyone but a blatant liar can see we can no longer afford this. But it’s still happening apace, so who is getting paid off to allow it to happen? Has to be bigger than the U.K. if many other Euro countries are in the same boat. Blame Orange Man doesn’t work when it was happening long before him, and in America too.

Vote for a party who's policies you agree with, even if they don't look like they stand a chance, or just draw a cock on the ballot.
The lesser of evils is still evil, and the uniparty with different brand names is still the same shit.
Our Welsh faggot doesn't seem to understand that.

and you don't seem to understand that he has a sense of optimism that Reform will evolve into something more like his ideal. You don't think this will happen, fair enough, but fuck me do you go on and on about it. I assume you've got the sort of autism that got you slapped a lot as a kid. Not by your parents, just by bigger kids that were sick of your annoying shit.
I don't think a lot of people that voted for ( new ) Labour knew what they were going to get, but Blair was clever with his lies and distractions and created a state that destoyed the traditional British way of life. The Fabians play the long game, often in the shadows. Perhaps his hope is Reform will do this too, using their browns as useful idiots against the inevitable accusations of racism, whilst undoing the constitutional changes in the background. I don't have a lot of faith this will happen, but to vilify somebody that does on nearly every page of this thread for days on end just gets fucking boring.

The UK already does thia with medical cannabis. One of the largest exporters of what its own government considers poison with no health benefits
While i tentatively support medical cannabis, we already have so many fucking scroungers on benefits and pills "muh medicinal weeeeeed" is the last fucking thing this country needs. We can't seem to gatekeep anything effectively, you can get a blue badge for anxiety for christs sake.

And I take a little bit of a middle ground. I am not yet against Reform and I think there is some merit in simply shaking things up and providing the space where people can voice a more pro-British view again. However, whilst optimism is good, optimism as a substitute for precaution is bad. I do not know if Reform will be good or bad but I know from long political experience that what will determine which it is, is the degree to which its supporters hold its feet to the fire. They must not give it a free pass and hope to change course later. They have to build the tools to keep it to what they want now, not expect it to become easier to correct later, instead of harder, which is what will happen the more success it sees.

People have to understand that the Broad Tent approach to politics is an effective tool to gain power, but not an effective tool to bring change. The more you adopt this tactic to gain power, the less political will you are left with to use it. Or to paraphrase a smart dude, "it profit not a man to gain the whole world if he give up his soul." I could also rather appositely tack on "...but for Wales" for those more cultured readers.

But I'm not going to keep banging on this drum either. This thread's tone has changed a little more recently. It was once mainly the British News Megathread and whilst always had political sperging was less... prickly. And more mostly, well, news. More recently it seems to have become a bit of a podium for people's outpourings about race, sex or whatever else they want to talk about. Which is their right. I'm just observing that this thread has become a lot more "I'm angry" than news lately.

It stopped being about British News, which was light hearted and interesting, and then became the Reform cope/discussion thread. His dead gay thread in mass debates is dead and gay, so he brought the shit back here.

Maybe the thread's just reflecting the UK mood as a whole. It used to be shit but fun but now everyone is completely bitter, angry and doom spiraling until the next GE.

GCHQ back for the year. This thread isn't quite on the level of the other threads which dissolve into kike sperging and endless insults, theres' still more back and forth long posting discussions but still, defo a vibe shift.
Not to add to Reform sperging but some news as they attempt to gain back vooters. Archive is down and sorry the Telegraph is paywalled https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/02/02/reform-to-cut-price-of-pint-3bn-rescue-package/ : (
Farage says he would cut pint prices by 5p through slashing beer duty by 10%, this will be funded by reintroducing the two-child benefit cap; he previously pledged he would only scrap the two child benefit cap for "British parents working full time" (which if you recall, caused a lot of kerfuffle with Rayner as she slipped up and said that would only give bennies to whites) and this will also fund;
1. Reducing VAT to 10% for the hospitality sector
2. Scrapping the employer National Insurance increase for hospitality businesses
3. Implementing staggered business rate abolition for all pubs
4. Changing regulation (the ‘beer orders’) to support landlords

Via Sky: Labour MPs are set to rebel and vote in favour of a Tory motion tomorrow mandating the disclosure of Government documents related to Peter Mandelson; Labour MPs believe No 10 is unlikely to whip against the vote due to fears of a rebellion. They say the best hope for No 10 is that the motion is "imprecisely worded" and there is no subsequent substantial disclosure. There's also talk of Kemi questioning Dave Lammy and McFadden over what they knew about Mandelson.

HMRC is seething that 1 million people missed the self assessment deadline. NGL don't know if im one of them but fuck em I ain't paying for some black to have seven keeeedsssss and some fat cunt to get nhs treatment for the type 2 diabetes he ate himself into, send out reminder emails and start cracking down on vape stores and barbers.
Also, ladies, is it true the NHS smear tests no longer test for all cancers/precancers/dodgy cells and only check for HPV? I've heard a lot about the test being 'narrowed down' to only HPV but can't find anything but Mumsnet posts.
