A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

I always seriously ask myself the same questions around this time of year. Just done my self-assessment tax return yet again and staring in disbelief at the screen as I see roughly 3 months of my income have been dedicated purely to funding a state that does nothing for me.

Personally, the only thing I'm getting out of the deal is very basic infrastructure with things like bins being taken by the council and a very occasional NHS visit (not used them for 10+ years).

Only reason to stay in this country is for the nature and countryside, which I'm sure will slowly get encroached upon more and more.

I'd love to move somewhere else, but because I'm a white male from a "technically first-world" country, it's almost impossible to move anywhere and have any semblance of stability. Yeah, for now you can work remotely and border hop around cheap south east asian countries, but what happens if/when they suddenly crack down on their visa rules?

Massive majority of our population has absolutely no clue about the political reality of our country. We have almost no relation to the grand heights of our history. We should not think of our current state as having any relation to the British Empire of the past.

We're currently stuck in a death spiral of incompetent ruling elites who I think are genuine true believers in modern globalist liberal democracy, and a completely brainwashed and uneducated population.

I think we will continue on at our current pace of slowly but surely devolving into a country where everything just gets a bit more shit and a bit more expensive.

Only potential temporary respite in our current doom would be Rupert Lowe getting elected and actually using power to make some common sense changes. Other than Lowe, I don't see anyone in the political system who has any clue whatsoever.

Genuinely asking, not rhetorically, how are these sub-saharan africans actually coming here and getting these sorts of delivery jobs?

Other than the illegal boat-folk, what is the actual mechanism they are using to come here? What visa are they coming on? How do they have the money to get settled when they first come here? How are they able to find accommodation etc...?

As an Englishman, I'm not legally able to move to any Anglosphere/first world country and do a minimum wage job like delivering parcels, so how is it that these indians and Africans are able to?

Another bizarre thing I've always wondered about: I live in a relatively small town in North Yorkshire. Most people in England will never have heard of it. Almost no foreigners will have ever heard of it. Yet, somehow, we have a very large third world migrant population. I've heard similar things from loads of other people living in small towns across the country.

How does a third worlder living in the Congo Basin come to hear about my small town and the fact that he can deliver parcels or set up an African Wonder-mart with government funding here? Who is telling these people about these opportunities in these completely irrelevant provincial countryside towns/villages in the UK?

I don't understand people who want to move to random Asian countries and have no roots there. If you're a white man jumping between Asian countries you're either a loser no one wants or a pedophile. If you tell me you've moved between multiple Asian countries I assume you're jumping around to fuck kids in them, not that you're some worldly traveler exiled from your home.

My best guess is criminal gangs using them as opportunities to launder. That must take up a good % of it. Plus thos NGOs and charities etc that "do good" bringing people over are also scamming and hiding money.
 
Bit of good news. Arrests made over supersized illegal rubbish dump. No names yet, but it sounds like they're starting to actually do something about all this illegal dumping.

And I was right, it's all recycleables. I bet an entire year's supply of sausage rolls that this is the result of a local council penny-pinching. It probably spent a couple of years building up in a warehouse somewhere before being dumped out to make room for the next batch.

90% of what I need to understand about government economics I learned from a single episode of a TV show called Bagpuss.

This was a very old British TV show and in one episode, these mice show off their chocolate biscuit factory. It produces an endless supply of chocolate biscuits but they never let Bagpuss eat one. They're always whisked away before he can. Eventually he finds out that they're just taking it round the back again. "It's the same chocolate biscuit" he remarks!

This is a very obscure reference but every time a British politician announces some saving to people or some extra funding, all I see is someone moving the money from one pocket to another to try and keep people placated. They make nothing, they just move the money about like a shell game, robbing the public of money and then waving it in front of us telling us they're giving us something.

But it's all the same chocolate biscuit.

It makes absolutely no sense to be so desperate to side with china other than social media optics of getting one over on Drumpf. He and the rest of the Eurocucks/Anglocucks are literally selling out their countries, in yet another way, and more importantly their own power simply because people are more butthurt about mean tweets and internet botted drama than whats actually happening in the geopolitical world.

it's crazy that it likely costs less than a fredo bar to do an X-ray to check bones in the hand (or teeth if they have em) to confirm age. Meanwhile I have to still show my ID to buy paracetamol.

Does anyone know what it's called when a country like China or Saudi Arabia has one set of laws for its people/nation, but essentially another set for foreigners/the global world? IE in China they are anti gay and ghosts are disrespectful to the dead, but their factories produce gay shit for the Western markets and ghost merchandise, and in Macau gambling is legal for the tourism even tho gambling is not communist; in Saudi and other Gulf states with foreign tourists, foreigners can drink, women can drive, and one of them even made an exception for Ronaldo to be able to live with his girlfriend (unmarried). Other Muslim countries allow foreigners to wear bikinis/swimwear on the beaches but local women are forbidden. VS somewhere like Singapore which will cane everybody of any nationality for breaking the law.
This sort of legal (moral? social?) system fascinates me. It's like they want to reap the benefits of a globalised economy and tourism but want to protect their One True master race from foreign influence and degeneracy, so you get these two tier systems essentially. Maybe thats why Keir is so keen on China

People have no idea the scale of the network involved in those "small boats". Imagine how difficult it is to travel across the world with no money, no languages and no resources. You just get from Africa to France and jump on a dingy. It's basically impossible and you would starve to death some where along the way. And yet it happens constantly and consistently. Which means someone is helping them. There is an entire military grade operation that's enabling this. It's so big and wide spread it would have to compete with the US military in terms of resources.

When people say "How do they get here" they aren't even picturing the scope of this. It's in everything and has support from every where. Someone is setting up transport, food, shelter, toilets, fake identities, education centers and propaganda leaflets to tell them what to say. This is one of the biggest operations in human history. It involves local churches fund raising for 'the poor african children' along with global transport networks. It cannot be understated how massive this is.

It's also crazy to me how much this is outright human trafficking (slavery) run by both 'balaclava' and 'suit and tie' criminals. We're supposed to believe that these random Africans are sending money back home? They have vacant, stupid eyes and no speaky English. They are being scammed by whoever brought them over here and their family back in Bongoland isn't seeing a penny; they're coming here with no documents, no ID, whatever paycheck they get or whatever Ubereats account they are sharing with ten others is being controlled by some gang leader slumlord owning the building they share with 20, 30, 40, people. In India, girls are taken from rural villages and told they are going to be a maid in the city, and then they are either pimped out or forced to work in sweatshops, and won't see any money; the same thing is happening here, to men and women who are likely promised a ''good job'' in the UK and then either put to work on some 0 hour contract, JustEat, Evri, whatever, and get that paycheck yanked from them; any benefits they get are also being stolen by criminal gangs, mark my words.
I don't feel bad for them, I can't when they are destroying my country, but it's insane the left is blindly turning away from the obvious human rights abuses and borderline slavery that props up their deliveroo, and that we all joke and laugh that tanning shops, vape shops, turkish barbers, are criminal fronts. I bet if you looked behind the curtain you'd see human rights abuses that would need about 20 government inquiries to unravel.
