A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The first challenge for Burnham is to actually be selected as the candidate - the NEC does not seem overly keen to anoint him, and there is a convention where if the proportion of women in the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) falls below half, the candidate for any by-election must be chosen from an all-women shortlist. So we shall see.

I would not instinctively call Reform the favourites either - this was one of the seats where the Greens did particularly well in 2024, and Galloway's lot also got over 10%. The demographics of the seat do not favour Reform - the Denton part of the constituency is 90% white and is probably good territory, but Denton is less than a third of the seat. The other two thirds are 40% white. I think Reform on a good day could reach 35 or 40%, but they would be reliant on the two left-wing parties balancing the rest of the vote between them. As you saw in Caerphilly, if this does not happen, the leading left party will win quite comfortably.

Personally, if Labour do not choose Burnham, who carries a meaningful personal vote which will protect him from the national mood, then I think the same thing will happen as in Caerphilly and they will finish a distant third with the Greens winning. If the Greens put forward Hypnoboobs as the candidate, I think that result would be guaranteed. But it does depend on whether Burnham is blocked or not.

Everyone keeps talking about Burnham standing as MP, but what if he just, doesn't? I've always thought he was content with his little Manc cult of personality up north, and he seems quite happy working with Andy Street (the gay Tory West Midlands Mayor) to get the trains running. He doesn't strike me as the Boris or Sadiq type who obviously wants to be a bigger fish.

Is Burnham even a good mayor? He's had some good ideas, (Bee Network being the only one I can think of tbh), But as PM? Not sure.

Burnham is related to someone with a vested interest in getting a ULEZ set up in Manchester. That's why there were so many temporary traffic lights at one stage. Oh noes, the air quality at these points (where there's a metric shit ton of standing traffic) is bad! Captain ULEZ, save us pls!!

We have the pattern recognition to notice the increase in Pakis increases the number of rapes but we haven't noticed Trump keeps highballing with an unreasonable request first just to propose a lower deal later which still results in a net boon anyway?
That's not really anything special though. That's just every politician. 'we'll get rid of all the migrant hotels, ok well yea we got rid of a few and stuck them in council housing' 'we're introducing digital id, ok well not the full thing just the parts that allow us to control your life' and so on.
Jacob Rees-Mogg
Thank you mister Jacob arse-mong.
I hope that they are unit 731 style just collecting browns so we can use them as test subjects so we know how to get rid of them better.
Nigger that's a fucking slitheen.

Back off the naughty step. Null showed his secret British side and put me in forum prison for jokes.

He kept a rich city rich, the poor part, meh. He covers up for the horrifically corrupt police in Manchester.

That tram system is fucking horrific in rush hour too.

He’s really good if you’re that type of neo-liberal who thinks the way to best deal with societies problems is to simply ignore them.

He’s popular with Norf FC boomers who were going to vote Labour anyway.

He wasn’t that good as a minister. He picked up the nickname Butcher Burnham after his handling of the North Staffordshire NHS Trust scandal.

Even the Hillsborough Enquiry was just him trying to score points. He waited until Labour were out of government to really push for it (Blair said no because he didn’t want to lose support of the Murdoch press). He was probably expecting Cameron to refuse so Burnham could lead a big campaign but Cameron said yes to an actual full enquiry, which must have pissed Burnham off.

He’s an opportunistic scumbag who only impresses retards and he looks like he’s always wearing makeup.

He’s post-Blair establishment through and through. I don’t think he is the saviour that Labour mongs think he will be.

Who and archive it when you post the evidence please?
I know they had to row back their ULEZ plans but are desperate to follow through on them still.

His wife, who was alleged to have shares in an EV charging company. It's hardly hidden.

The fact she was employed by a marketing agency that dealt with said company and then Burnham denied it is pretty much all you need to know.

She might not have shares but like all MPs, their families and staff, someone's grotty fingers will be in a rancid pie somewhere along the line.

They've been trying to force a congestion charge and now ULEZ onto greater Manchester for about as long as I've lived somewhat near the area (mid 2000s or so). The last attempt where they diddled the pollution numbers so they could sneak it in as only applying to commercial vehicles (which no doubt a few years later would expand to all vehicles) was thankfully found to be illegal. The retard though thought he was so clever and that it was actually going to go through that he borrowed billions against the expected income to buy and install all the cameras around the city and also fund the Bee Network. So I suspect he's keen on maybe getting away from Manchester before all that catches up with him.

Delight at return of cat 'stolen' by delivery driver

Not mentioned in the story: the driver is a paki. They blurred out his face in the BBC video, but it's all over twitter.

They implemented a Leeds-level one-way system around the city centre to make the pollution worse, so they could use it as a pretext to implement the charge. They want a clean air zone to cover the majority of greater manchester, which is just absurd. Not even just inside the M60, which would be bad enough; they've got plans for cameras as far out as Wigan and Romiley. Oh they say they've scrapped it, but all those signs on the M60 are still up. Under review, my arse!

On the topic of ULEZ shit, I've noooticed a complete blackout on the topic of those "blade runners" around London who were going about chainsawing the cameras down, whatever happened with them are they still at it? They were all over for a while last year, new hit piece every week now: nothing.
I'm presuming Barry and Edgar got bored and moved onto flag shagging, seemed a bit too prevalent for it just to a be few boomers at it though.

Anger against St George flags continues
The spazzing out about the England flag makes my blood absolutely fucking boil. You're IN ENGLAND you stupid cunts, if you have such a massive problem with the flag OF ENGLAND then FUCK OFF. The Ukrainian flag was everywhere for years; Palestine flags, pride flags, trans flags, all fine to be waved about willy nilly apparently, but God forbid an Englishman has the nerve to fly his own flag in his own country. The sheer fucking nerve of these people is unbelievable.

Okay, got any archives?

As you say, definitely believable and par for the course. But if she was employed by an agency working for the company due to profit from it, that Burnham denied it and it was a matter of record that he lied when doing so that should be something provable.

I like to have the records before I try to blackpill the normies.

Speaking of Manchester remember when they were trying to charge someone for taking photos of women in scanty attire on the streets of Manchester? As most predicated that has fallen through so now they're pursuing civil cases.
Police are considering taking civil action after being told it was not possible to criminally prosecute people for filming women on nights out without their consent.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said that while a man had been arrested in November 2024 in connection with such incidents in Manchester, limitations within current legislation meant it was now exploring other legal options.
The force said "all possible lines of enquiry were explored, and women who came forward have been updated".
Supt Nicola Williams said the man's arrest had been "the first in the country and was our commitment to acting on all the information we have received".
GMP's investigation began after "several social media videos of this nature were brought to our attention", with an appeal leading to multiple women coming forward to report the impact that finding themselves in these videos, and the commentary on them, had had on them.
The force urged anyone who experienced anything which made them feel unsettled or unsafe on a night out to come forward.
A spokesperson said GMP was exploring civil action in connection with several reports of women being filmed without their consent, particularly in the Deansgate and Peter Street areas.
They said the criminal investigation had concluded "due to limitations" but they were "exploring civil routes in taking action" alongside Manchester City Council.

Williams said: "We took the reports from women who came forward, as well as the public feeling towards this behaviour, really seriously."
She said throughout their investigation , officers had explored all lines of enquiry thoroughly, including digital forensic examination of various devices.
"The investigation was also reviewed by an experienced, senior detective to ensure no stone was left unturned," she added.
"Predatory behaviour is completely unacceptable, and tackling this has been a priority for our night-time economy policing operation."
The safety of people on nights out in the city remained their priority, the force said.
Under GMP's Operation Safer Streets campaign, officers have made about 1,000 interventions with suspicious individuals and the same number of contacts with vulnerable people.
It had resulted in "significant reductions in offences such as rape", the GMP spokesperson said.
I'm posting this other article because it shows how desperate they are to spin it as a success. I've underlined the relevant bit.
A criminal investigation into the filming of women without their consent during nights out in Manchester City Centre has collapsed, with police now looking at other options to stop the disturbing trend.

Greater Manchester Police said that filming took place in the Deansgate and Peter Street areas and came to light after videos surfaced on social media.

Now the force is exploring civil action after a criminal investigation into a man accused of filming women without their consent during nights out in Manchester city centre concluded without charges.

A public appeal led to several women coming forward to report the impact of seeing themselves in the footage and the associated commentary.

Superintendent Nicola Williams, of GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: "We took the reports from women who came forward, as well as the public feeling towards this behaviour, really seriously.

"The arrest of an individual in November 2024 was the first in the country and was our commitment to acting on all the information we have received.

"Throughout our investigation, we explored all lines of enquiry thoroughly, including digital forensic examination of various devices.

"The investigation was also reviewed by an experienced, senior detective to ensure no stone was left unturned.

"Predatory behaviour is completely unacceptable, and tackling this has been a priority for our night time economy policing operation."

Despite the seriousness of the reports, police concluded the investigation without criminal charges due to limitations in current legislation.

However, officers are now working alongside Manchester City Council to consider civil action.

Those who came forward during the investigation have been updated throughout the process.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any behaviour that makes them feel unsettled or unsafe during a night out.

This information helps police build a clearer picture of issues affecting the night-time economy and informs their operational response.

GMP’s Op Safer Streets, a dedicated policing operation for the night-time economy, has recorded 980 interventions involving suspicious individuals or predatory behaviour since its launch.

The operation has also seen more than 1,000 interventions to safeguard vulnerable individuals.

There have been notable reductions in serious offences, including a 50 per cent decrease in reported rapes in the Peter Street-Deansgate corridor since the operation began in 2023.

The scheme has since been expanded to cover the wider city centre, including the Village and Northern Quarter.

In these areas, GMP has recorded a 68 per cent reduction in rape offences and a 17 per cent decrease in other sexual offences.

Supt Williams said: "We are committed to ensuring nights out are safe for everyone and encourage anyone who is subjected to unwanted behaviour to report this to us.

"We will listen, you will be believed, and we will investigate all lines of enquiry."

The decision to explore civil, rather than criminal, action highlights a gap in existing laws around the unauthorised filming of individuals on nights out.

Police have stressed that every possible avenue was explored during the investigation, including detailed forensic analysis of digital devices.

Members of the public can contact police by calling 101, visiting the GMP website, or using the Live Chat service.

In an emergency, always dial 999.
For American benefit (and UK natives who have never been to the area) the areas they are talking about are smaller than city block equivalents. They're essentially bragging about lower (reported) rapes in an area so small that if it has any rapes at all it should be considered a no-go zone for any lone women. And the rapes are still happening, just less reported ones.

I agree with everyone who has pointed when the creepy Manc videos first got posted as news articles that the shits recording and posting them are repellent. But as was pointed out then and continues to be true the police cannot bring charges for that. That the force is now pursuing other ends rather than addressing more serious crimes in the area (like those rapes that keep happening) shows how desperate they are for distractions.

(Bee Network being the only one I can think of tbh)
Even that's being gayed up now. I was back in Manchester late last year and I found out they no longer issue tickets on buses if you're paying by card. On the face of it that's not entirely unreasonable since the fare is a flat 2 quid, except when it isn't. One of the buses I get goes out of Manchester so I also have to tap out when I get off lest I get whacked for the full fair, hell they don't even give you a fucking physical daysaver ticket unless you specifically ask for it.

Of course I'm sure they have lots of bullshit justifications about efficiency, or saving all that paper or something, and they'll never admit it's because almost every new driver is an illiterate nigger or paki who can't work the machine.

I don't live on that side of GM but from the area I do, if I have the misfortune of needing to head into the city one of the little country lanes - and I'm talking single track with passing places type country lane - has the signs and one of the cameras installed on it as you cross over into the GM area. They must have wasted a fucking fortune on connecting that one alone to power/data lines as it's in the middle of nowhere. There's no doubt in my mind he got some sort of kickback from the amount of money that poured into that scheme.
