A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

We enjoy it. You need to understand that not only do we love the weather we love complaining about the weather. Discussing the weather. Opining about the weather. Weather related chit chat is the lifeblood of British small talk. Four seasons in one day is the British weather reality, and though we may complain we secretly love it. When you go live abroad and have the same weather for weeks in end it’s so depressing
This is true Bri'ish culture. My favourite description of British weather comes from American airmen in WW2- replacements landing in England were confused about how quickly the weather would change, how it would rain on one side of the airfield and be sunny on the other, and asked 'is it always like this?' The Americans who had been in England before them said, 'in fifteen minutes, it'll be the same, only different'.

Lib Dems are calling for the govt to hold a COBRA meeting over Storm Goretti (they also did this for the heatwave in June). Emphasis mine
MP Gideon Amos: “Storm Goretti has caused widespread damage in communities across the South West overnight, with power outages and serious flooding still causing serious concerns and impacting travel. “It is essential to restore power quickly, keep people safe and ensure vulnerable residents are properly supported. “The Government’s COBRA committee must urgently be convened to ensure fast help is delivered across the region. The South West is routinely overlooked by the Government, but we cannot be ignored in this time of need.”
Anyone from the South West here? Are you guys still beefing the utility companies or is that the southeast?

Anyway here's Lammy and Vance. Hope the snows have stopped him flying back.

Personally I hope if the UK bans X that Trump cuts off all US web services to the UK. The initial 24 hours where it sinks in EXACTLY how fucked everything is would be glorious.
Oh no, however will we live without prats like Supertanskii telling us how shit the Tories are, despite Labour being the party of Governance?

Every woke SJW in the UK will end themselves if they can't call us 'fascist Nazi's super mega Hitler Orange Man cocks'.

Power cuts all over the country, it seems. The news keeps referencing figures from National Grid, who despite the name only supply the midlands, south wales, and the south west, but suffice to say the numbers aren't great. These cuts are caused by the storm damaging infrastructure rather than overload, but overload is still a distinct possibility. All the interconnects are pegged, meaning we're sucking in as much power as we can from the continent. Wind is currently providing about 11GW of power, despite having an installed capacity of over 30 - the wind is too strong to run them safely. Demand is dangerously close to the maximum production capacity. I'm starting to wish I'd got my house battery built out faster...
I had no idea that the "National Grid" referred only to the Midlands. I'm not sure if that has implications for this map which shows current power cuts. Note, the number is the number of incidents in that region. And incident can encompass multiple properties.

I encourge every fucker to have everything on charge for when the shitstorm happens, a few fully charged AA or AAA batteries are a godsend and having SOME form of entertainment while freezing under 40 blankets can not be understated.
Reading a book, under the covers with the torch. It'll be like being a kid again!

Lots. This is a map of the regional DNOs.

I have no idea why the midlands operator called itself National Grid, but it's obviously creating some confusion for the world-class journalists at the BBC. As far as I can tell, there's no single place to see a display of power cuts across the entire country. Every DNO has their own status page, which might be a map, or might be a list in a table. No standard API, no uniform presentation.

Leaked messages show Labour MPs complaining about X. Please note X is unsafe for women and puts children in harms way, but if you complain about the safety of women in the streets or children in schools with migrants you are uhhhh a heckin chuderino.

Our state is truly powerless. The Grok update was a disaster but banning X/twitter is retarded.
They'll also have to ban:

* Facebook
* BlueSky (if they don't, we know that they are CP lovers for sure)
* YouTube
* TikTok

As well as Whatsapp, Telegram and others.

'WE MUST WIN!' screams the Labour autist, soiling they's nappies.

Labour really are getting desperate aren't they? Oh no, people despise us and hate us. What can we do to make things better? Should we perhaps listen to people and do something? No! Let's ban platforms run by people we don't like, instead!!

I hope to god they all get antibiotic resistant clap and die the horrible deaths they all deserve.

Same here!

If there is a God and all that...

I was on Reddit (Disgusting I know) the other day and stumbled onto a post on a UK subreddit. It was asking why so many people hate Kier Starmer and the comments were actually filled with people defending Kier Starmer. They were claiming nothing is TTK's fault and he's doing the best he can after the Tories. I genuinely thought no one was stupid enough to actually like TTK but I guess I must be wrong.

The problem with TTK largely has nothing to do with the previous government and everything to do with the fact that he's a cunt. Or to but it simply, he's hated not for what he's failed to do but what he's succeded in doing.

It's getting to the point where I genuinely think they are evil. In the last year they've removed trials by jury, pushed through an online censorship act, cancelled elections, thrown people in prison for saying mean things on Twitter, and are now trying to ban platforms that let people express displeasure about the government (via the usual guise of "won't somebody please think of the children?"). And that's probably forgetting half of the Stalin-esque nightmares they're inflicting on us.

I thought the doomerism here over Labour getting in was overblown, but if anything it was understated.

/r/askbrits is very notoriously Pro Starmer (mainly due to banning anyone who disagrees with him) so it does not surprise me that the sub would be full of starme bots
