A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Question: I know you’re not supposed to use a BBQ indoors etc, but what about those calor gas camp stoves? Surely that’s just the same gas you get from a cooker? What about meths stoves, or those solid tablet stoves? Will having the window open while you cook be okay? I keep seeing warnings about not cooking indoors with those things if the power goes down, but the idea of sitting on the path out front with a cooking stove doesn’t fill me with confidence. Especially not if I’ surrounded by yellow snow.
There's quite a few makes to chose from, but butane stoves like this -
51Vmhb2DqnL._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_FMwebp_.webp
- are practically compulsory in NZ for power cuts. I've never heard of anyone dying from leaving one going, probably because the gas would run out first, so you're certainly not going to kill yourself making a bacon butty & cuppa.

I know they're not actually people, but it still doesn't feel quite right eating them, if you look deep into their eyes and you can almost see a human being.
Next time I’m sinking my teeth Into one I’ll try that.

Always have ventilation. Open a window and keep it open a while after. Use CO monitors as well.

Well there’s Merthyr Tydfil doesn’t that count? And Bethesda.
There is at least one wildlife parklet that has a capybara according to my dim memories.
I’m quite fond of the Welsh.
Now that the Wyndham Arms has gone, Wales' main 'Zoo' has sadly announced last orders.

Many pubs across the UK can claim to be rough, but I have seen a man hurled through a window at about 8am from that pub. Not a pretty sight at all.

The Gurnos Estate is also 'interesting' - lived in Dowlais for a while but the Gurnos was proper scary.

Some good Reform UK news?

Dismal reading for Labour as latest UK poll sees them drop behind Tories and Reform pull further ahead

Even with tactical voting, they should have enough votes in the bag.

This is just how people from Merthyr flirt
Very true.

Random fact about Merthyr - their football club was the first British club to play in European matches after the Heysel disaster. They were drawn to play Italian side Atalanta, over two legs, and were given no hope of victory in either match - yet, something magical happened during their home match:

I like the Welsh, they are a sort of missing link cousin.

Bella 1/Marinera has been captured in a joint UK-US mission (''joint''), the RAF provided surveillance while the yanks took the boat.
Defence Secretary John Healey said: "Today our UK Armed Forces showed skill and professionalism in support of a successful U.S. interception of the vessel Bella 1 while on its way to Russia. This action formed part of global efforts to crack down on sanctions busting.
"This ship, with a nefarious history, is part of a Russian-Iranian axis of sanctions evasion which is fuelling terrorism, conflict, and misery from the Middle East to Ukraine."The UK will continue to step up our action against shadow fleet activity to protect our national security, our economy, and global stability – making Britain secure at home and strong abroad.
"The U.S. is the UK’s closest defence and security partner. The depth of our defence relationship with the U.S. is an essential part of our security, and today’s seamlessly executed operation shows just how well this works in practice"
Ed Davey in PMQs asked Starmer if he agrees a Donald Trump attack on Greenland would mean the end of NATO and called for new alliances with "reliable nations'' (uh... who? the french? yes they can build submarines overnight but uh... they're french? why tf are we signing peace keeping deals). Starmer was frustrated and said Davey keeps encouraging him to choose between Europe and the US, which would be a strategic mistake. This Greenland debacle is fun to watch, I hope the yanks pull funding and Euros suddenly have to fund their own armies and healthcare (even if they won't because they need/want EU countries to have functioning armies).

This is just how people from Merthyr
Why are we talking about imaginary creatures?
This Greenland debacle is fun to watch,
It's a distraction so blatant it's hilarious to watch. The people shrieking about Greenland were shitting their pants about Venezuela hours before and now can barely remember to talk about it.

The Danes are pretty shitty to the native Greenlanders/Inuit as well; even as recently as last September the Drs were caught putting IUDs and birth control in native women without consent. It's funny because both sides are wanting to 'colonise' Greenland but I guess the left thinks its rightful Danish ice?
If anything, they'd probably get more rights under US tribal land/reservations if the yanks let them build casinos and shoot seal or whatever. Sell Greenland for a couple trillion and build some more lego factories or something Denmark.

The Greenland thing just highlights yet again, the issue of fundamentally gay and weak leadership in Europe. There's no real will to power, only the softness of weakness of focus groups and committee based government. The EU nations should have been shoring up their defences, expanding weapons production and re-arming since Russia became a 'CREDIBLE THREAT AHHHH HE'S GONNA INVADE MY ASSHOLE!!!!' to them. But they're weak, so they didn't and they won't. Trump can talk about just taking territory from people, because those people cannot say "Fuck off or we'll shoot down your planes and nuke your cities. Do you want to die over Greenland? You, personally and everyone you know wants to a eat a 250KT bomb to the forehead? No, then fuck off."

It's insane that national leaders have forgotten that nations exist as a product of people willing to defend them. The blood part of blood and soil isn't just the people, it's what spilled to defend the soil! How can you spill blood if you haven't got any weapons nigger!

I think you misunderstand the current position, in that the EU does not have a choice to continue to placate and play ball with America. The US military and its might are unrivalled, and much of military equipment used by NATO members runs on US software. The EU is infinitely more reliant on the US than vice versa, and should Russia and America decide to team up for total war, they would have Europe carved up in a matter of weeks. Europe simply doesn't have the bargaining chips to justify taking a hostile stance towards America, nor would it be in their favour even they did. Like it or hate it, PAX Americana is here to stay, and Europe has little to gain from getting in a dick measuring contest with a man that will be out of office in a few years.

Moreover, warfare in the modern world has fundamentally changed, in that a war between major powers would inevitably end in Armageddon. As such, unless a new technology is developed which neutralises nuclear armaments, there is simply no need to spend on lavishly on militaries that will either be parading up and down around Europe or killing third worlders in pointless proxy wars for influence.

The EU nations should have been shoring up their defences, expanding weapons production and re-arming since Russia became a 'CREDIBLE THREAT AHHHH HE'S GONNA INVADE MY ASSHOLE!!!!' to them. But they're weak, so they didn't
We spent all the money importing millions of hostile fighting age men and giving political cronies PPE contracts during Covid.

but butane stoves like this
The main thing to be careful of for these things isn't the health and safety aspect or any of that faggy osha bullshit but more that they don't use a proprietary gas can. Most of them use a standard can, some of them for no reason do not. And then you're left with a random can of gas that you have no idea what to do with and will probably explode and kill me in my sleep in three decades when I have long forgotten about it.
Or you can buy a like 60 pack of those cheap fag lighters and use them if you only want a couple rashers of bacon. Maybe some little candles, probably go for like pine scented ones though I imagine that'd go good with bacon unlike baby powder.

Greenland seems like a loud powerplay tbh, Trump wants to buy it and Denmark said "No" so he's turning the screws so Denmark capitulates and goes "ok fine, it'll cost X"

Trump absolutely is not going to go to war with NATO, if anything it seems he's aware that barring the UK, France and Poland, Europe has a major defence problem so if they're not going to up their military spending then he'll make an indirect threat to force them.

But ultimately nothing will happen as European militaries are complete paper tigers and no country seems to want to up their military spending or provide any form of defence when they know the UK, France and Poland would bail them out if they were attacked. If you really want to have a bad day, check military casualty reports from Afghanistan and notice how despite Europe getting involved, the absolute drop off in casualties after US and UK stats is harrowing. It's clear that the Germans and Italians did the square root of fuck all apart from hang out in their barracks, and these are some of the key players that would defend us from Russia???

Yeah it says a lot when ever these wars happen and the US drags us along, we in particular always seem to have a high death count.

Feels weird seeing the forces getting glazed for a change instead of hearing how shit it is. The fact the UK is one of the better armed forces in Europe is seriously concerning considering how:
  • We realistically can't deploy a force larger than a Brigade for a peer on peer conflict
  • We can't build a fucking CVRT replacement
  • We can't fucking recruit
  • We swallow woke bullshit hook line and sinker
  • All our kit is ancient (Bulldogs being 432s, the fucking landies, Bowman, Pumas, Chinooks)
  • We have a massive morale and retention problem
It's scary to think what the rest of Europe looks like if we're this bad and considered "good".

Yeah it says a lot when ever these wars happen and the US drags us along, we in particular always seem to have a high death count.
It's because we actually do this thing called fighting when we go to war.

Starmer got a telling off from the speaker at PMQs today. Seems it shook him badly; he was stammering and stuttering afterwards. It wasn't even a particularly forceful correction.

Regardless of where we all stand on this Ukraine business, I think we can all agree this man is yet again betraying a fundamental lack of respect for Parliament and the nation and needs to be gone.

instead of hearing how shit it is
Well we already knew it was better than Germany's. Still baffling that somehow France has a significantly larger navy than we do. I genuinely cannot fathom any reason for that when our coastline is the main threat and also longer than France's. So far the ranking is France<Germany<England<some fucking paddies in a random field.

He's so weak. His nasal voice and chubby, whinging looking face bring out a primal urge in me to push him over and take his lunch money.
