A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

If he was truly Russian then his favourite garnish would be misery.
In Soviet Russia, soup eat you.

Also whoever mentioned college of policing: what a total shitshow that is.

@UselessRubberKeyboard , tell your other half to stop being a faggot. Being meat free is no good for men, and at any rate, if rest of household is meat eaters it's wrong of him to force his pussy ass beliefs on others.

Only Slavs could combine the most basic, tripped-over-it-in-the-dacha level foodstuffs and come up with such a perfect dish. Potatoes, cabbage, beets and dill, all topped off with smetana. How is something so basic, so homely, so fucking great? Dammit, now I need beets.

Going to recreate my ex-wifes version of Golubtsi for tonight's dinner. Rather than dtuffed cabbage leaves, I simply shred a few savoy cabbage leaves, add some ground beef (seasoned with salt and pepeer) finely cubed potatoes, and a diced tomato, all cooked together and topped off with smetana.

Followed by a few glasses of vodka accompanied by a couple of dill pickles to stop me getting drunk.

Full traditional English Christmas dinner tomorrow though...

Well I'm off before someone attempts to convince me the words to We Three Kings aren't "one on a scooter, blowing his hooter, one in a Honda car____".

I hope all you silly sods have a Merry Christmas! See you on the other side!

Not sure if this has been posted yet but the Government has released a study on the Partner visa pathway. This study is slightly flawed because it excludes their use of the Healthcare, which if you go to a local GP or hospital you will notice it RAMMED with migrants.

Gov.uk
Archive.org

This is a smaller cohort of the migration numbers, but it clearly shows what we all knew, dependants effectively cancel out a lot of positives, bear in mind the Skilled Workers we've imported haven't gotten close to retirement yet. Just looka t these assumptions:
By Year 8, 32% of SW applicants will have emigrated compared to 11% of Partner applicants

WHAT? why are 30% of SW leaving but 11% of the partners remaining? This doesn't make sense.

They don't mention if those emigrating are higher earners or not etc. so they could be misrepresenting the SW stats as well.
  • The 2022/23 Partner visa cohort will cost the UK -£5.6 billion over their lifetime (in present value terms)
  • Average cost per applicant: -£109,000
  • Partner applicants allocated £9,700 in primary government expenditure in their first year
  • As they age, costs increase dramatically due to:
    • Access to benefits after obtaining Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) - typically after 5 years
    • Rising healthcare and social care costs
    • State pension entitlements
    • Declining employment rates in later years
1766570261915.png 1766570355827.png 1766570370757.png

Why Tho:
  • Annual fiscal contribution turns negative after Year 5 when most obtain ILR and become eligible for benefits
  • The route wasn't designed for economic purposes - employment is not a visa requirement
  • Between Years 5-7, the cohort claims £109m in benefits (average £2,400 per person per year)

2. Low Taxes Paid

Employment & Earnings (Employed by Cuz):
  • Employment rate: Only 49% in arrival year
  • Mean salary: £21,000 (median £20,000) vs UK median of £28,000
  • Employment rate peaks at just 65% by Year 3 (much lower than UK average)
Tax Contributions:
  • Tax receipts: £8,600 in arrival year (second-lowest of all comparator groups)
  • Direct taxes: £2,600
  • Indirect taxes: £2,000
  • Visa fees add £1,183 annually (but these stop after ILR)
Gender Fuckery:
  • Women comprise 78% of 25-year-old applicants (71% overall)
  • Female employment rate peaks at only 58% vs male rate of 89%
  • This significantly drags down overall fiscal contributions

Three main groups of non-main applicants:

GroupFiscal ImpactEmployment RateMean SalaryStatus
Partner (Family visa)-£109,00049% → 65%£21,000Independent visa route
SW Adult Dependants+£3,00044%£26,100Dependent of main SW
H&CW Adult Dependants-£67,000Not statedNot statedDependent of main H&CW

Why the disparity between Skilled Worker Dependants and H&CW and Partner?

"By Year 8, only 11% of Partner applicants will have emigrated compared to 32% of SW applicants"

Partner route households:
  • Sponsor minimum: £18,600 (in 2022/23, now £29k)
  • Partner earnings: ~£21,000
  • Household income: ~£40k
  • Moderate benefits eligibility
SW dependent households:
  • Main SW minimum: £38,700+ (much higher)
  • Dependent earnings: ~£26,100 (when employed)
  • Household income: £65k+
  • Very low benefits eligibility
H&CW dependent households:
  • Main H&CW: £23,200 (or £20,960)
  • Dependent earnings: Lower (implied)
  • Household income: ~£25-30k?
  • Higher benefits eligibility

So my favorite person in the whole wide world and our illustrious Chancellor Rachel Reeves has had another set back. The government will be voting next January on changes to the inheritance tax changes she made for farm land. They're looking to change the threshold from from £1 million to £2.5 million and it's probably going to pass.
Suffah Reeves! Suffah!!!

In all seriousness the last time I remember this many major U-turns was the Tory / Lib Dem coalition and Labor doesn't even have the excuse of a partner screwing things up for them.

Returning to the more serious business of Christmas, I've also heard that the three kings were in Albert Square, selling knickers at two bob a pair, real fantastic, no elastic, come and try a pair.

Of course, anyone who has been to Manchester around Christmas time would know that the very idea of a market in Albert Square with strangers from the east selling shoddy goods is ludicrous.

Would it be considered a hate crime to use the only till in my local Aldi with a jeeta solely so I can wish her a Merry Christmas?

I thought Albert Square was in the East End of London. You know, by the Queen Vic pub?

Also, I thought the three kings were one in a bucket, one in a jar, one on a scooter papping his hooter, following yonder star?

I have been misinformed my whole life. My Christmas is ruined. Thank you. (:_(

Spreading the love and good cheer is never a hate crime. Muslims are just jealous they don’t get to do Christmas anyway, you know it.

I hope Starmer is diagnosed with something painful, fatal and incurable for Christmas. Same for all MPs,really.
If that's the message he took from it, he wasn't paying attention. Slap him with a turkey leg and drown him in gravy.
Why sir, how did your face get scalded? Oh, my wife waterboarded me with the bisto.

Also deserving of this: people at the big Sainsbury's who take their shopping trolleys not to the self-service area SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR TROLLEYS but to the self-service area SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR BASKETS. This area has half the floor space, and far smaller shelves to put the scanned items on, because BASKETS ARE SMALLER THAN TROLLEYS.

Now taking bets on how discounted their basic mince pies will be on Boxing Day, given that there are entire end-of-aisles' worth remaining. £1.15 standard price; I will guess 25p.
