A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

GROSS!!!

Breakfast tea only. Anything else is GAY!
I quite like an occasional darjeeling.

There's a lot of crowing about interest rates coming down a fraction, as if that makes up for crashing wages, massive unemployment, and taxes functionally going up for everyone. Rachel saved us you see!

If you don’t enjoy all forms of tea then you spit on the brave men who created the empire and, frankly, your daughters deserved to be raped harder by Afghans than the British Army did during the second Anglo-Afghan War.

Being unable to enjoy a herbal tea like a nice peppermint tea is a sign of low intelligence, unless its aldi's nasty own brand mint tea fuck that.
Some success: Home Office DELAYS housing asylum seekers at Crowborough barracks after weeks of protesting. Hope they keep the pressure up
Conservative MP Nusrat Ghani confirmed the delay on plans for the Crowborough Army Training camp in East Sussex this evening.
It is understood The Home Office will not make decisions on the site until the new year.
Ms Ghani said: "Through our consistent and persistent campaigning against the Home Office, we have finally secured a confirmation of a delay to moving asylum seekers to Crowborough.
"The Home Office confirmed that no decisions will take place until the new year.
"We have been forensic and technical in our questioning of the Home Office’s presumption that the site would be safe, legal and compliant, and this has no doubt slowed down their plan.
"I am grateful to everyone who signed my petition, which has over 9,500 signatures, and to Crowborough Shield for raising legal action against the Home Office."
Asylum-seeker-supporters in Crowborough face 'rape threats' and 'acid attack threats', which imho they'd get if they invited in the asylum seekers anyway so... just an early taste! [emphasis mine]
If you chance across the East Sussex town of Crowborough on a Sunday morning, you will see hundreds of protesters waving Union Jacks and St George’s flags.
Every week, people have been marching against Home Office plans to house 540 male asylum seekers at a former army training camp just outside it.
The backlash against the arrival of these migrants has been a staple in the media for weeks – but Metro can reveal the darker side to these angry demos.
Those who have spoken out in support of the asylum seekers say they have been threatened, intimidated and ‘forcibly quietened down’ on social media.
While a number of people were too scared to share their stories with Metro, some locals have detailed how hysteria has gripped Crowborough and left many scared to even venture into town.
Aaron Stevens, 37, claims he knows of people who have faced death or acid attacks threats because they’ve tried to counter ‘far-right’ posts on local Facebook pages.
The dad-of-four told Metro: ‘People have had threats made to themselves and their households and their families.
‘It’s stark how many people have changed their names on Facebook who have spoken up in opposition to the current narrative and rhetoric.
‘One of the reasons why I’ve come forward is that it’s an echo chamber in the local groups now. Anyone who’s shown to put up resistance has been forcibly quietened down.’
One of those threatened is Andy (not his real name), who has had to change all his social media profiles to protect himself after challenging people who are critical of the Home Office plans.
After trying to drum up support for a volunteer group to help the asylum seekers, he claims he was warned ‘we’ll rape your wife so that you know what it’s like when it happens to one of us.’
Andy, who helps to run a local group to support refugees, added: ‘We are being attacked for being kind. They have been extremely threatening.
‘They will verbally abuse and swear and say dreadful things online to women who offer a kinder perspective.
‘Members of our group have been threatened and a few of them have had their houses intimidated.
‘When you go into town there is almost this hysteria. You get people shouting at you that they are going to rape all the children and the schools need to go into lockdown.’
He says he’s heard of one person who has had vibration alarms and kick-proof doors put in due to the threats they’ve faced.
Metro has been shown intimidating comments and messages that some have received on social media.
One woman, too scared to speak publicly, was told ‘you are a traitor’ and ‘let me know when one of these illegals decide to rape you and I’ll get my phone out and make sure it goes on Facebook.’
Both Mr Stevens and Andy say the protest movement has been ‘hijacked by outsiders that aren’t part of the town’.
Caroline Coxon, 70, says the online intimidation means she is scared to venture in Crowborough.
She has doggedly responded to posts and comments on Facebook groups which she says promote false or racist information about asylum seekers.
After doing that, she said someone revealed her identity and posted it online.
‘I was quite upset and worried. But I thought to myself, “Well either, I can run and hide or I can just stand up and be counted.” And I decided I would do that,’ she said.
‘It just upsets me that they are grouped in such a way because of the crimes committed by a very few.’
‘I don’t want to go into Crowborough shopping anymore. It’s that bad.’
One anonymous Crowborough resident, who works to support charities helping refugees, says she is also terrified to venture into town due to the febrile atmosphere.
She told Metro: ‘When we supported Ukrainians, we were well supported by the local community. People were tripping over themselves to provide support.
‘But as this news was announced, I immediately felt like a stone had dropped in my stomach.
‘After the first protest I went into a supermarket and I had a panic attack and felt really emotional.
‘I was looking around these people and I didn’t know who was looking at me with hostility. It was an awful feeling.’
She’s hoping to welcome the migrants into Crowborough and provide a more positive face for the town.
‘You don’t have to be happy about them coming, you just have to be kind’, she added.
‘If they are in our town, let’s be compassionate and make their stay as comfortable as possible.’
Those who Metro spoke to say they are working hard to support the asylum seekers if they do arrive.
Mr Stevens, who won the Red Cross’ Henry Dunant medal for his work helping those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017, says a silent majority of residents want to welcome the asylum seekers.
He is in the process of setting up a community interest company to work with charities and help the men settle in and feel welcome.
He explained: ‘We need to try and make the best of the situation, rather than meeting people with hatred.
We want to provide support be kind. Our group is apolitical. We want to provide care for them as we did previously for Ukrainians.’
Andy is continuing his own efforts, running collection drives to gather clothes and other resources to give to the asylum seekers.
They hope to aid charities in their work support asylum seekers with their mental health, legal procedures as well as run drop-in session.
The Home Office outlined plans to use the army camp in Crowborough as part of efforts to end the use of hotels for asylum accommodation.
Last week, the Crowborough Shield residents’ group requested a judicial review, claiming the plans breach ‘common law rights to justice and procedural fairness’.
However the Home Office has previously defended the move, saying: ‘We are furious at the level of illegal migrants and asylum hotels.
‘Moving to large military sites is an important part of our reforms to tackle illegal migration and the pull factors that make the UK an attractive destination.
We are continuing to accelerate plans to move people into Crowborough when the site is fully operational and safe.’
The last group of cadets has packed up and moved out of the training camp and the site has now ceased to be a Ministry of Defence base.

Something is definitely afoot. They want a docile, pliant, quiet population who will allow them to shoehorn in whatever retarded legislation they're being told to enact by Davos.

Breakdown in utilities and the supply chain would allow for rationing, resulting civil disorder would allow for ID cards. And starmer desperately wants to be popular. Even if it's through a false flag event that generates terror and fear.

Had a funny conversation today with something I believed to have been extinct, a gammon labour voter. Nothing too controversial was said on my half but he was talking about how he believes Labour would win the next election and Reform was going to bomb. I asked him why he thinks this and his response was pretty much that everyone on benefits were going to vote Labour and not Reform. He also ranted on about how you never see Nigel (as if he hasn't turned his TV on as of late).

Whilst his take is retarded, he does have a small point, likely unknowingly on who will actually still vote Labour. Dole dossers, foreigners and globalist cosmopolitans.

Also my parents. Boomers who are retired live in a still mostly white Norf FC town and call themselves working class despite being more affluent on paper than a lot of people in the south east of England. They watch BBC and ITV news and would rather watch the world burn than have anyone think they were Tory.

Strange how we used to be able to have Christmas markets without these things. Strange how there never used to be the threat of lunatics driving vehicles at speed into crowds of innocent bystanders. ‘Terrorism will never change us’ used to be the claim, and look at us now. Especially considering Brum has a high concentration on non-whites.

The black swan event will be when you tea swillers are force fed bovril on a drip by me.
Now I do love my tea, but by god you could force feed me Bovril any day, you filthy swine. Yes please. On the rare occasion one does football without wearing your beer jacket, a nice, hot Bovril while watching the game is a great feeling. Probably cost you £5 on top of whatever crazy price you pay for seats in a soulless concrete bowl now, mind.

Well, I guess you're footing the bill for all that right now.

As for tea sperging... there's a green tea, mint and lemongrass mix I'm quite fond of whenever I want a nice gentle pick-me-up.
Green tea should never be adulterated with anything but jasmine flowers.

I can see it being an excuse for ID cards, but would the government really bother with rationing? It’d be a huge undertaking that’d cost them millions (or more). Surely they’d outsource it to places like Tesco, energy suppliers, or local charities they’ve already paid off with their work for your benefit stuff? It’d take a bit of influencer and tv pushing of WWII ‘how heartening and lovely things were when we were all together under rationing and happy’ stuff before bringing it in (and foreigns will have no fucking clue). I’d be so curious to see what government plans there are for anything like this, if there are any. I can really see them just not giving a fuck and leaving it to be a free for all. wWII is a bit too far out of people’s memories now for rationing to be anything anyone identifies with.

It’s fascinating to think about though. How would rationing work, if it were brought in now? Presumably they’d try to make it digital somehow, assuming the power stays on and reliable?

It’s illegal in the U.K. for good reason. Fuck your ‘custom’, it’s barbaric. You live here, you live by our rules or fucking leave.

Nice to see a radio presenter being sane and challenging this.

@Otterly - new "consent" metaphor dropped, it's now "informed assent." Expect to see that wording argued in a trial for a pedo in the next 5 years.

Wes Streeting has admitted that children cannot give consent to take part in the puberty blocker trial.
The Health Secretary told MPs that participants in the trial instead need to give “informed assent” to receive puberty blockers.
Mr Streeting also revealed that the decision to approve the trial was one he “wrestles with every day” and reiterated he was “not comfortable” with it.
More than 220 children diagnosed with gender dysphoria – who believe their sex and gender do not align – will be put on puberty blockers as part of an NHS trial.
The hormone-blocking drugs, which stop children’s brains and bodies developing, were permanently banned by Mr Streeting outside the trial.
The research, run by King’s College London, has faced a backlash, including from MPs across the major parties.
Mr Streeting was quizzed by the Commons health select committee on issues ranging from doctors’ strikes to puberty blockers on Wednesday.
Joe Roberston, a Conservative MP, said: “If this trial is to go ahead, it is on your watch and with your consent.”
He told Mr Streeting that “no child under the age of 13 can consent to sexual activity because they don’t have capacity”, and asked: “How can children under 13 consent to body altering drugs, drugs that will change or even block their sexual development, potentially?

“How can they possibly have capacity to understand what that means? Will you consider a lower age limit by which no child can receive those drugs because they cannot consent?”

Mr Streeting said: “I absolutely agree with your assertion that a young person cannot give consent. What they would be required to do is give informed assent, and it is for the parent or guardian to provide consent. Absent of that, they cannot participate in the trial.”
Explaining the “assent” process, Mr Streeting said it involved “repeating back to the clinician what the risks are and why they would want to go through them”.
But he also said he had been “challenged because I’ve said in both instances that I was uncomfortable about the ban and I’m uncomfortable about the clinical trial”.
He added: “Both of those statements are true. Both of those statements are consistent, because when I put in place the permanent ban on puberty blockers, I was confronted with a whole group of young people and their parents who looked me in the eye and told me that I was doing real harm to them, to their lives.

“Those are not comfortable conversations to have, and I’ve had to weigh up at all times, whether withdrawing access to this drug or enabling access to this drug is likely to do more or less harm.”
The trial has been set up by NHS England in response to the Cass Review into children’s gender services, which called for more research into treatments given the “remarkably weak evidence” supporting the use of puberty blockers.

It comes as a cross-party group of parliamentarians is set to hand Mr Streeting a letter on Wednesday afternoon, condemning the “unethical” trial. The MPs and peers will join campaigners outside the Department of Health and Social Care in Westminster.
Jonathan Hinder, the Labour MP for Pendle and Clitheroe, is among those set to speak as part of the protest. He told The Telegraph: “There is no public support for this experiment on children. It is only set to go ahead because so few people know about it.
“We are seeking to raise public awareness of the issue in order that ministers think again.”

Research commissioned by Transgender Trend, a campaign group, and undertaken by Whitestone Insight, found that 63 per cent of more than 2,000 adults surveyed thought the trial should be stopped.

Stephanie Davies-Arai, the director of Transgender Trend, said: “It’s a clear mandate from the British people to stop the trial.
“The British public instinctively knows that medically experimenting on children is wrong. Most understand that children are too young to make medical decisions that will affect them for the rest of their lives. It’s not a party political issue but common sense. The Government now needs to listen and do what’s right.”
The regulators that licensed and gave ethical approval to the trial are also facing legal action.
Zahra Sultana decides to demonstrate that politicians are above the law.
Zarah Sultana has been filmed among a group of pro-Palestinian protesters chanting about an intifada, hours after the Met Commissioner said such slogans should lead to arrest.
The Your Party MP has been taking part in a protest outside HMP Bronzefield in Surrey, where a Palestine Action activist is on hunger strike.
Ms Sultana is among a group who have been demanding that 20-year-old Qesser Zuhrah be transferred to hospital.
On Wednesday afternoon, the MP was filmed clapping along as a woman with a loudhailer led chants in Arabic of “min ghazat taqarar ’iintifada” which translates as: “From Gaza, the intifada of victory is declared.”

Ms Sultana had her back to the camera and was wearing a keffiyeh scarf, so it is unclear whether she was singing along with the chants.

But it comes hours after Sir Mark Rowley and Sir Stephen Watson, his Greater Manchester Police (GMP) counterpart, issued a joint statement promising a more robust policing response to such slogans in the wake of the Bondi Beach and Heaton Park synagogue terror attacks
They said words and chants used in protests had “real-world consequences”, adding that, due to the escalating threat against the Jewish community, their forces would now “recalibrate to be more assertive”.
The statement went on: “We know communities are concerned about placards and chants such as ‘globalise the intifada’ and those using it at future protests or in a targeted way should expect the Met and GMP to take action.
“Violent acts have taken place, the context has changed – words have meaning and consequence. We will act decisively and make arrests.”
A short time after the videos were recorded, a group of protesters outside HMP Bronzefield clashed with police and in one incident a female officer could be heard screaming in pain as she was knocked to the ground. There is no evidence to suggest Ms Sultana was involved in these scenes.

Ms Sultana has been outside the prison since 3am on Wednesday, and has posted several photographs and videos on social media.

She wrote on X that she had contacted David Lammy, the Justice Secretary, and Wes Streeting, the Health Secretary, urging them to take action.
Ms Sultana said that “if she dies, it will be on their hands”, adding that there was a risk Ms Zuhrah would die if Mr Lammy did not allow an ambulance on site.
Sharing a photograph of herself alongside 12 other activists, several wearing keffiyehs, she said: “We’re not going anywhere until HMP Bronzefield accept an ambulance transfer for Qesser to get the emergency healthcare she urgently needs.”

Eight Palestine Action activists have staged a hunger strike in prison, with their lawyers saying last week that five had already been taken to hospital.
Ms Zuhrah has been on hunger strike for 46 days while awaiting trial. Last week, she was said to have lost “considerable weight” and had been finding it difficult to walk, while her pulse never fell below 100bpm.

Imran Khan and Partners, representing the group, demanded a meeting with Mr Lammy last week.
In a letter seen by The Telegraph, they wrote: “We note with genuine and significant concern the immediate and real risk that their deeply held conviction, in tandem with their deteriorating health, poses to their lives.
“We are concerned that, should this situation be allowed to continue without resolution, there is the real and increasingly likely potential that young British citizens will die in prison, having never even been convicted of an offence.”
On Tuesday Jeremy Corbyn, the Your Party MP and former Labour leader, demanded in the Commons that the Government meet the families of the hunger strikers.
Jake Richards, the justice minister, refused, adding: “Luckily, the Ministry of Justice in the prison service has robust and proper guidance and procedures for when these scenarios come to fruition.
“I am satisfied, and the ministry is satisfied, that those procedures are being enacted.”

Reform councillor told to apologise for pointing out reality.
A Reform UK councillor is being told to apologise for describing some of his area's taxi drivers as having "dangerous criminal histories" after he questioned why some had been granted a licence.

The councillor is still demanding a full review of all taxi licences after he found that over the last 10 years, 12 private hire licences had been granted for people with convictions for violent offences and one for someone with a conviction for a sexual offence.

The figures relate to licences issued by Bassetlaw District Council and the figures were provided by the authority in September 2024.

Councillor Fraser McFarland asked for an update on the figure at a recent council meeting and it was confirmed that a further two licences had been granted in the last 12 months to applicants with convictions.

Councillor McFarland, who serves as the leader of the opposition on Bassetlaw District Council for the Reform group, wrote after the new figures were confirmed: "That means at least 15 people with dangerous criminal histories have been approved to carry passengers across our district.
"Let me be clear. This is unacceptable. It is unsafe. And it cannot continue.

"No resident should ever get into a private hire vehicle worrying whether the person driving them has a history of violence or sexual offending.
"The fact that this is happening and has been allowed to continue represents a serious failure of oversight and judgement within the licensing system."
Councillor McFarland has repeatedly clashed with Bassetlaw District Council - with the authority having recently spent £19,000 on an investigation into comments he made about asylum seekers.

The authority has now rebuked Councillor McFarland again, saying in a statement: "It is important that Councillor McFarland's comments do not undermine the wider taxi industry in Bassetlaw and cast any doubt over the legitimacy of all taxi drivers in our district, especially during what will be one of their busiest times of the year."
Bassetlaw's Labour MP Jo White has also called for an apology, having written to local taxi firms and said: "The suggestion that our hardworking local taxi drivers are a risk to the public is a disgrace.
"I know that local taxi firms carefully consider who they employ and they would never allow someone to work for them who presents a risk to the public."

Bassetlaw District Council now says that its policy does not allow the licensing committee to grant a licence to anyone with a previous sexual offence conviction.
The authority also says it does not issue a taxi licence to anyone who has committed a serious violent offence within the last 10 years, or within 10 years of the end of their sentence.
Bassetlaw currently licences 142 active taxi drivers and of the 15 licences in question, only five are now active drivers and their historical convictions were committed and spent between 10 and 33 years ago.

The council added: "There have been no complaints or allegations made to us by the public or by the police regarding these drivers.
"We take public safety extremely seriously and want to reassure the public that anyone providing a licensed taxi service in Bassetlaw has been through a rigorous and stringent application process, which includes Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and mandatory safeguarding training."

It's obvious as hell that Sultana is trying to get arrested so she can be seen as a martyr and doesn't have to deal with the Your Party financial situation fallout. I don't think she's grasped that instead of helping her cause, Your Party would use that as an excuse to boot her from the party and she'd be politically marooned and facing potential terrorism charges.

The Intifida thing is just to pretend they are doing something about that, judges will toss it in seconds. A major Labour donor just claimed Netynyahu (I can't be bothered finding the spelling) ferments anti-semitism so he has a shield for his awful actions. Labour has whined a little and done nothing.

I think that's what pisses me off the most. Celeste and Tarquin can say "Gas the Jews" under a different wording and when it finally goes to court, Judge Mohammed Al Sharaz throws the case out.

Big Baz says "I think immigration is getting out of hand" and he faces losing his job, getting prison time and being stuck in custody for 3 years unless he pleads guilty.

Celeste and Tarquin are unironically causing Reform's support in the polls to rise because it exposes the direct two tier justice system.

It’s fascinating to think about though. How would rationing work, if it were brought in now?
They already got me carrying like five different "loyalty cards" in my wallet, now everywhere has that bloody two tier pricing system. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to restrict how many bags of Flamin' Hot Monster Munch I can buy per week.
