A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Why do you find it brilliant? I'm interested (genuinely interested, not sneering cunt Redditor-style "interested") because I really hate it.
To me it feels like a real affront, like they're saying "btw anyone you know could kill themselves tomorrow and you'd have had absolutely no inkling or warning." That's not a positive message to me. It's almost menacing. Wasn't there also a Samaritans ad around the same time with loads of photos of lovely smiling people and then at the end it was like "Yeah these people all killed themselves soon after these pictures were taken."
I mean I understand that suicidal people can put on a front but what's the takeaway here? I feel like I'm supposed to have a mental image of all the happiest people I encounter killing themselves. Just doesn't seem very constructive to me.

I wouldn't pick up a penguin in defence of this country rn, let alone a rifle. Plus, there is a large minority of young "British national" men who should be kept as far as possible from training in firearms and fibua. National service does not make sense in a country that has abolished the nation.
 
National service only works when people actually feel nationalistic or we live right next door to someone who might actually invade us (which we don't unless the Welsh rise up). Right now every young person on both sides of the political spectrum hates this country and would refuse to fight for it for their own reasons. On top of that there is all the "none anglos" which for sure would not fight for us even if forced to. Likely they and their families would entrench themselves into their little pockets of the country and refuse and do you really see any recruiters going into somewhere like tower hamlet or do you think they'll go around the white areas with a net instead?

Personally I would never want to fight alongside someone who's wearing the same uniform as me but has allegiance to another country because they will be the first to shoot you in the back.

The army isn't a place to park retards and hope they sort themselves out. We don't have the resources for it. Plus that's not what armed forces are anymore. Many if we still had an empire and could send petty criminals off to get a bit of malaria along with a dose of discipline whilst they play policeman to spear chuckers, maybe it would work, but dumping tracksuit scum with more father issues than Null into a uniform will not sort them out.

Please note the explicit football hooligan blaming, however they are attempting to use firms and pubs to spread their messages and gain support; the French media is reporting they are investigating Brits for attacking migrants. Emphasis mine.
British vigilantes who spearheaded efforts to fly England flags across the country have launched a new anti-migrant protest – attempting to block illegal Channel crossings.
Using the term “Operation Stop The Boats”, members of the group have been filming themselves slashing small boats before they are used by migrants to cross the English Channel from France.
Posts on social media show members calling for other British men to join them in France, including making a direct appeal to football hooligans, saying “we need to make a stand”.
In one video message shared this week by a member of the Raise the Colours group – the grassroots movement that has seen flags fixed to lampposts, motorway bridges and roundabouts across England – two men are seen evoking military language and the spirit of the British fight against the Nazis in the Second World War.
Claiming to be recording from the northern French coast, one said: “Just like in the 1940s, we must take a stand, and it starts with the men of England and Britain.”

Making an appeal to “firms” – a phrase that refers to football hooligan groups – the other man added: “Our country is doing nothing. Weak government, weaker borders.
“They are doing nothing so we need to make a stand boys. Get the lads together, get your firms together, get the lads in the pub, get the lads down the bars, if you’re talking about it and you agree with what we are doing, give us a hand.”
The Government is under pressure to tackle the issue of migration amid a record number of asylum applications, surging small boat crossings, and protests at hotels housing asylum seekers.
On Monday, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood set out a package of reforms to asylum policies aimed at tackling illegal migration, telling MPs the current situation is “out of control and unfair”.
The latest videos shared by those linked to the Raise the Colours group have separately been referred to as “Operation Overlord”.
Earlier clips showed two men saying they were taking matters of illegal migration into their own hands and filming themselves stamping on and smashing a small boat’s engine.
In the clips, they refer to themselves as “patriots” and make a number of claims without evidence, such as that they are stopping “rapists and murderers” from “coming to a town near you”.
The flag-raising group, who have a combined 100,000 followers on X and Instagram, also posted a plea on X for donations last week, writing that they are: “STOPPING The Boats, whether the migrants or government like it or not!.”
Two videos from the group have recently been shared to the 1.7 million X followers of Tommy Robinson. The far-right figure and former leader of the English Defence League, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has previously been accused of mobilising football hooligan firms in an attempt to launch anti-Muslim rallies across the country.

Separately, French media reports that the Dunkirk Public Prosecutor’s office has opened a preliminary investigation into “aggravated violence” against migrants by suspected British far-right figures.
One of the details being examined by the French prosecutor is the claim that in September four men waving British and UK flags verbally and physically attacked migrants on the French coast. It is alleged they told the migrants they were not welcome in England and proceeded to steal some of their belongings.
The men are not the first anti-migrant figures to travel to France in a bid to take matters into their own hands.
In September, Ukip, Nigel Farage’s former political party, posted a video to their X account showing what appeared to be sleeping migrants in France being woken by people flashing strobe lights in their faces and shouting at them.
Nick Tenconi, Ukip’s current leader, also posted a video captioned: “In Calais hunting for illegal invaders trying to cross into Britain.”
The Home Office and French authorities were contacted for comment.

This is brave but incredibly fucking dumb. Don’t travel to foreign countries and commit crimes.

You know our government will let you rot in prison over there. The media want the boaters to come, so they will let you rot. The French want the boaters to leave for England so they will come after you and put you in prison to rot.

This is overstepping to a disastrous level and some retard with his heart in the right place is going to become some Algerian’s prison wife for likes and retweets.

This isn't new, this isn't "society has moved on and men need to catch up", also, "one of the leading causes" makes it sound as if it isn't number 1. You don't hate these people enough.

For men 5-19, 20-34 and 35-50, suicide and "accidental poisoning" are usually the top two, then heart disease and various cancers take over. (IIRC cancer in general is actually at the top with a significant margin, but they split each cancer type into it's own category, so they all fall down the ranks.) There are some years where suicide is the second leading cause, but it's a close second.

Fun Fact: In England and Wales, a conclusion of suicide cannot be returned for children under the age of 10 years.

This strategy marks a turning point – the first time we're taking comprehensive, coordinated action to address the health challenges facing men and boys.

If they just stopped demonising men (and boys!), stopped blaming them for everything that's wrong in the world, and stopped the systematic destruction of male social spaces, then there would be a hell of an improvement. I speculate that this was largely a response to the 2014-2016 reports that more ‘British muslims’ joined ISIS than were part of the British armed services.

It made them look rather silly that they only had 640 of them while thousands went off to jihading, likely sent a survey around asking muslims why they weren’t joining. The polite hand wavey fuck off response was probably "Infidel Kuffar I will not be able to pray 5 times a day assalamuwhelakum" and some mastermind thought that ad was a good idea.

While I agree with you, desperation will make people do dumb shit. The town we've just moved from, the enshittification was progressing at speed. Gangs of "child" niggers from African shitholes loitering about the local secondary school, and the police only got involved to tell off parents who started picking their kids up and filming aforementioned pedos.

People too retarded to not realise all these charities giving freebies to the invading army are funded by the tax payer and are reeing down anyone calling this out. Shelter setting themselves up as a landlord to give these vermin homes. Free driving lessons. The government refusing to crack down on Uberjeets and deliverpoo (as an aside,the Co-op use deliverpoo, so much for their ardent support of workers). Shabahna whatserface at least saying stuff that pushes the Overton window in a good direction being told by backbenchers not to "appease the electorate".

People are starting to take matters into their own hands. If I was in charge I would declare flat out war on France. They are sending a hostile invading force here. If that's not an act of war then I'm not sure what is.

Reform UK would find £25bn in savings instead by:

1. Capping foreign aid at £1bn to save £10bn.
2. Raising the immigration health surcharge to save £5bn.
3. Deporting all foreign criminals to save £580m.
4. Ending universal credit for foreign nationals to save £6bn.
5. Reforming PIP for non-serious anxiety cases to save £3.5bn.
