A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The fuck does he mean 'this is unacceptable'. No. That's just Dublin.
Be thankful they only targeted a van instead of the hotel or immigration centre.
And the fuck does he mean violence is not part of democracy? Are you fucking retarded? The country was created after a group of armed and violent militia took control of a large portion of Dublin and shot at the British who tried to stop them. Violence is the fucking reason we have a country you retard.

I wonder how safe the ten year old child who was raped feels?

Make the Ministers and Gardai feel unsafe and maybe, perhaps, they might start to fucking get it.

Some early morning news from GB News:

* West Midlands Police fear Maccabi Tel Aviv and Aston Villa trouble despite ban as club issue strict warning

* I will stop at nothing to expose vile grooming gang rapists. It's time for the truth - Shabana Mahmood (how long until she cocks up or is removed?)

* Let's rejoice for Graham Linehan but don't rest, we're already fighting another free speech battle - Connie Shaw.

* Waitrose 'sack' autistic volunteer in Manchester after family asked for him to be paid.

* 'You do wonder who is making these decisions': Locals furious as council pays £10.5million for office block to then sell it for £5.2million (Dianne Abbott would be proud...)

* Thousands at risk as energy supplier Tomato Energy on brink of collapse - check if you’re affected.

* Fourth survivor quits grooming gang inquiry panel amid crisis for Government.

* Railway union bosses 'splashed thousands of pounds on Las Vegas trip', leaked files reveal.

* Serial rapist Ricky Stubberfield, who 'lured' women into his teeth-whitening salon in Plymouth, jailed for 26 years.

I cannot get to that point even of absolute violently political sorts I have met in the past. They might scream "race war now, kill all Conservative voters" but I cannot comprehend reacting to their deaths like it's a fucking goal at the football. They're a human who is now dead.
Full disclosure here, I’m going to have a great day and a good laugh if someone Minecrafts Hasan Piker.
The Irish will literally firebomb the police if they receive a FRACTION of the migrants that the UK gets yet it's Big Baz with his St George's flag who is the real monster.
There’s this weird thing across parts of the UK and Ireland that racism is an English thing and the Celtic nations were better people and could who take in and integrate boat monkeys because they were such welcoming people.

Now it turns out us English had a point and everyone is getting racist now.

The Scots are still docile nigger cattle, but their press is the worst in the UK. One day a reporter from The Telegraph will get lost, end up in Glasgow, and they’ll find stacks of rapes being covered up.

Once the fires start in Scotland it’s game over for the neoliberal establishment as they’ll have been chased out of their last playground.

That's what I hated most about living in Scotland. The constant fart huffing about how Scotland is a "special place" and how "different" it is to rUK.

It's absolutely not and from a recent holiday in Caithness I was struck by the number of Union Flags I saw, alongside the St.Andrews Cross and the Caithness county flag.

There's racism and bigotry aplenty in Scotland and the sooner people realize, that's not a bad thing, the better.

People on here talk about the unification of the Provos and the Proddies in Ireland. Tbh I'd love to see Celtic and Rangers fans trashing a migrant hotel and baying for the blood of the next Achmed who raped a child. In Minecraft obviously.

Congratulations to @Made In Waleson his victory in Caerphilly!

I was working in the west end of Glasgow and saw Palestinian / St. Andrew’s Cross half and half flags.

I don’t understand the hard man reputation of Glasgow any more, it’s turning it an uglier but gayer version of Edinburgh.

Firebombings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy who could have fucking guessed? God I love my culture so much.
a rich and ancient culture. Long may it prosper.
This girl was supposed to be looked after. A child in care, betrayed by the state that promised to keep her safe.
Ah, see he, like the rest of us, has been labouring under a misapprehension. You think, and I think, and anyone sane thinks that the care system exists to keep vulnerable children safe and protected from abusive situations.
When you start to see it as a pool of vulnerable children away from their families who nobody really cares about, and who keep ending up in the hands of rapists it all makes more sense. These children are prey to be supplied.
That should make us all very angry indeed.
(redacted) but mostly peacefully angry of course.

Not happening. Celtic fans are very determinedly ‘refugees welcome’, in a large part because the club was founded for migrants from Ireland.

This is 100% what happens with Tusla (the Irish Child and Family Agency). They are known for being deeply corrupt and a danger to the children in their care but nothing ever changes. The girl who was raped was apparently 'surrendered' by her family recently as they couldn't cope with her behaviour. (Note: All day yesterday the official media narrative was to very heavily imply that this kid is a mini-demon and probably a liar. There was one short news story that used the word 'allegedly' seven times.) She 'absconded' from her caretakers on Monday and made her way to the home of extended family. Then 'absconded' from them too before somehow making her way the very considerable distance from their home to outside the Citywest centre.

This is a kid without any sort of family safety net and the care that the state is supposed to provide for children like this, is in so many cases worse than nothing.

Ten. She’s a ten year old child. I hear this kind of ‘she’s no angel’ shit from the media and it males me want to pick rocks up and use them. Ten years old. The media is disgusting.

That Irish mob still has a lot more capacity to get angry than they showed. That's low level anger. The line of police is about twelve, single rank. They're in the hundreds. One big charge and the police would be flattened. The mob is keeping a good distance between themselves and the police. That mob, if they wanted to get to the hotel, wouldn't have too much trouble getting over the hedge even if they didn't want to directly go through the police - one person with a ladder and you'd have half a dozen lads running around behind the police line which would put the police in a shambles.

That's not at full mob status yet, that's a group still getting accustomed to getting together and shouting and throwing a few bottles. If actual real fury sparks in a crowd like that, those police could not stop it.

Yup. There are ten year olds who still believe in Santa and the tooth fairy, who want to sleep with their parents when they've had a bad dream. A ten year old's biggest worries should be mastering cursive or working out fractions. If a child that young is 'difficult' it means she's had a really awful upbringing and if she's in the care system, with unrelated foster carers, it means she hasn't even got a reliable extended family who can step in. This is a kid who's been denied real love and stability, not a conniving, reckless little monster.

That's just those videos. The police last night were pepper spraying old men who weren't involved in violent altercations and brought out the water canons, hounding people through the village centre who weren't even near the protest. I think they are genuinely scared of what will happen if people get even slightly more bold.

Ahead of the protest, the local authorities also shut down all public transport, (rush hour trams and buses - fuck you if you just want to get home from work) going near the area, in an effort to prevent any gathering. Though even state media was reporting protestor numbers of around 2000, so it was probably higher numbers than that.

I think they know this, I’m not sure the crowd do yet. We can expect the full force of the ‘cleaning up’ I.e identifying people in the crowd and jailing them for anything like being close like we saw after Southport. That’s a proxy measure for police power though, in many ways. We can’t stop you but we’ll ruin your life after.
It’s likely that what will happen is that, a mopping up and quick show trials.
- then the next step is when a crowd overruns the police and realises they outnumber them. That will also be followed by a mopping up which will put the brake in for a bit, then…
- anger continuing to rise, and the police lines and courts and jails overrun. That’s the tipping point. At that point things may get very interesting. Right now people seem to be testing the waters, they still ‘feel’ like the state has the upper hand. The moment they realise that’s an illusion is the one to be watching for. Will it happen? I don’t know but if it happens anywhere I would put money on Ireland
… then starmer will likely send the army in, because he’s an idiot. That will be incendiary

They should be. That's pretty much my point - the mob are operating far below what they are actually capable of, still. For all that this is presented as a crowd of angry people, they're missing the level of anger they could still reach.

Mind you this would do it.

It also pretty much turns the accusation of "the migrants are an invasion force" to be openly confirmed. Their presence back up by military action.

Surprised to read that BBC news have actually submitted a request to name Harvey Willgoose's murderer during sentencing (when even the prosecution has remained neutral on it). Of course, the fact that he hasn't been indicated as being a white male is all the information I really need, but it would be nice to have it confirmed.

I do think we're surprisingly close to a massacre against the police happening at some point. The police tactic of kettling everyone and ensuring they're angry and can be picked off can only work for so long before some group decides to have a group waiting behind tactically to come in behind the kettling police, kettling the police and leaving them isolated and vulnerable.

EDIT: To make it clear I don't WANT this, but I worry that the police have gotten so complacent that they don't realise how close they are coming to the obvious conclusion to antagonising protestors.

During the summer riots you could see them constantly getting out flanked in city centres as all the main numbers were protecting mosques. The police were really lucky that people weren’t out for their blood but it’s weird how everyone forgot that the police lost control of large parts of the country.
