A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

All that aside, some news...

Nigel Farage has invited HRH King Charles III and Queen Camilla to visit St. Osyth Priory in Clacton:

The Manchester Synagogue attacker had three wives and claimed that he was a data analyst... oh well, Digital ID's loss I guess.

As Reform UK get ready for a bumper night with the Councils, a Reform UK councilor has left the party in Cornwall.

for today's GB News including silly Shabana's concessions on visa bans: Foreign dancers and interior designers to be EXEMPT from Shabana Mahmood visa ban.

Yes, I hear the service is to die for.
The people serving drinks might have no fucking clue, but you may also find that neither do the pilots.
"SAAR, SAAR, DO NOT REDEEM LANDING. WEATHER IS BLOODY BENCHOD."
"FUCK YOU BLOODY SAAR, I WILL REDEEM LANDING."

I genuinely thought they meant something like a trebuchet, have never clicked on an article quicker than that.

RETURN TO TRADITION

Why yes, I do think you guys you start throwing rocks at the Scots until they finally wise up.

Some good news for a change:

English stadium looks like abandoned wasteland as non-league club begins work on new home after years of ground-sharing:

Grays Athletic are set to move into Thurrock's old Ship Lane ground.

The redevelopment may prove expensive and there is a rumour that sadly they may have to drop to Step 5 (which will be the Essex Senior League) as a result.

Either way, their future is looking bright.

Exactly my thinking!

Breaking news... Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood, 68, charged with rape and indecent assault as Met Police issues statement:

(archive.ph isn't working for me but will archive later if I can).
That said I can't remember the last time I saw white people in Bradford. I actively avoid the place these days. They've been packing illegals up there for years and it is deeply unpleasant, and feels extremely unsafe.

Edited to say: the architecture, if you look up in the city centre, is beautiful, and because of the wool industry, the City once had the highest concentration of millionaires outside of London.

The city is a damning endorsement of "multiculturalism" and absolute, concrete proof that importing the third world in, only ever does significant harm and damage. It never works, ever.

Starmer now admits you'll need Digital ID to access your money and children as young as 13 will be 'made to have them.'

Am absolutely convinced that this will be his undoing - people will take their money out and shove it into crypto or hoarde it.

If he causes a bank run akin to Northern Rock, he's done.

I still believe he'll be out of office this year - the Budget will be his epitaph.

Edit: Is Starmer trying to troll his own party? He doesn't seem that enthused about the job and every time he opens his mouth he sabotages himself and makes it easier for Farage to be accepted.

Does it really matter? He can just set the tools for the next guy in line to exploit. There is no way the next person in line says "Nah, I don't like having this much power".

Farage, Badenoch, Davey, Polanski, Saville-Roberts and Swinney have all said 'No, we oppose this and we won't bring this in.'

Out of all of them, I only believe Farage definitely wouldn't.

I don't think Starmer actually cares about his own position.

I think it Ideological with him.
