A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Sorry to be the person who has to tell you - you actually have to. Same as if they ask questions, not answering can be used against you
I don't have to show my phone to Akhmed Ali the slumlord, or Karen Mcfrowny the HR trollop who can't be arsed to do their jobs.

How will the ID work with those with dual passports and nationalities? Will Irish citizens working here legally need an ID that they can't get?

If they make the digital ID mandatory (they won't), just get rid of your phone and get a Nokia. Unless the government buys you a phone, there is nothing they can do. And if they do buy you a phone (they won't), just repeatedly say it keeps getting stolen by phone thieves. Job sorted.

This policy will not happen (Palantir's CEO killed it yesterday with the Times Radio interview) and if it does, it'll be a QR code which opens up a website that shows you info you can get from other places.

get a Nokia
Didn't they kill off most functionality for old phones already? I have a nokia and it simply does not work because it cannot use 3g and they killed off anything older than that. Just get rid of your phone period. Even without the government bullshit that's still just a good idea.

I misunderstood your post, I thought you had said "to the police", but you did not, I imagined that

In the past, I researched what it as necessary to move to England - why are you assuming that they cannot get it? I think it would work like: you are a legal immigrant, therefore you already have a photographic id (generally a passport, plus your national ID, plus whatever visa type you have), so you submit a scan of that id. Then, on your digital ID, you have "Nationality: X, Y" or just X.

A more interesting question is how do you force people to report all the nationalities they hold. So, let's say you get arrested and the police wants to record your nationality for the crime. But your digital ID only says UK, not Pakistan. How do you force people to record both?
People with multiple nationality are known to use different passports for different destinations, or for each part of a trip. They are fully aware that someone one nationality is more beneficial than the other.

There are still phones branded under Nokia being made today by HMD. They run a pretty limited OS called KaiOS and they're not very well made nor good looking frankly but useful if you don't want weird shit installed like A FUCKING DIGITAL ID. They are as close to a "dumb phone" you can get today iirc.

Is 2g/3g dead yet? I remember my iPhone 4 working just fine under O2's network about a year or two ago.

Anyway sorry queer starmer my computer and router have all magically relocated themselves in front of the council building and have also magically lit themselves on fire. I suppose I can't get Digital ID now :(

Are all elderly people using smartphones?

I don't know of any country that does not have a paper option. Generally the government will always have options for those with no tech literacy.

What about homeless people? I know most have smartphones? But what about those who don't? The government would, ironically, define that group as the most "at risk" and "vulnerable". So would they be criminalized because they don't have the mandatory digital ID?

I am really curious about what will happen in the UK with this ID thing.

They don't care. Always online is their goal.
As an example, BT have recently started turning off everyone's landlines.

No. But they don't give a shit. The government can hardly bring itself to even pretend to care that old people die of hypothermia because of them. They won't give a shit about old people physically not being able to comply. Should have just worked harder and had more money to buy a phone with retard. Or been brown so you could get a free one.

I just think it's funny as fuck how Labour keep saying the worst things at the worst possible time. Saying there is no room for debate on digital ID ONE DAY before Plantair pulls out is just hilarious.

It's clear as day the US investment hinged on digital ID so I wonder if this is a way of saying that the huge billion dollar deal has been dropped silently as the public would do far too much damage to US companies stocks.

I did assume you were referring to the police which is why I replied in reference to HR and slum lords.

I might get this bit wrong, but I believe Starmer said it was only for British Nationals living in the UK. Which does nothing to stop illegal migration, because they already work illegally.

Basically what the Digital ID is just another way for the authoritarian cunts to weasle money out of the plebs and tightening the screws of control, making it easier to police the public's every word and thought. It's a blatant power grab everybody can see through and cynical as fuck they're pretending like any of it will stop the immigration invasion.

You know it's really bad when fucking circle of evil Palantir are like "this is a bit too evil for us." I think a lot of this is linked to shares plummeting, too.
I don't think that's what they're saying exactly. I read those articles the same way that I read the reaction to the osa. A 'hey we're on the same side and want the same thing but it will be us who creates the system not this dysgenic faggot'.

I reckon Palantir are refusing to have anything to do with Bongcard because they know Starmer and his band of cretins, mohammedans and fruits will have been thrown out into the streets long before it gets past the consultation stage, and the populist right wing government that follows will not look kindly on collaborators.

Palantir are probably just trying to score some "good guys" points with the public, they already know that the contract for implementing it is already going to whichever CEO let Tony Blair/Satan harvest their children and/or kick him back a nice percentage. Unfortunately for Plantir their CEO's children were already given up to get the contracts in the US/Israel so were unable to get the UK contract.
