A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

The fact that it'll lose Starmer even more support among the no borders crowd is just icing on the cake.
The amazing thing is just how absolutely pathetic the modern British politician is. They spend decades claiming that anyone and everyone can come and then the moment they're overtaken in the polls and are staring down the barrel at total oblivion, their values suddenly "change" and they throw scraps to the peasantry. Most people will see through it for what it is.

I think we've already crossed the Rubicon of at least the Tories being scalped at the next election, even Labour are just totally ignoring them. The only generally good thing the Tories are doing is Hollinrake's legal questions, I've got no doubt in my mind that most internal Labour leaks are going to him.

On an unrelated note, Xitter Muslims are absolutely hating this image going around. Just wanted to share it here so you can all be aware and make sure you don't share this accidentally to annoy Muslims as we talk about the delicate subject of first-cousin marriages.

When you see the TikTok campaign to get the women on board with the white feathers, start worrying.
I would fucking love to see Tik tok whores try to shame any one. Are they going to dance at me with a feather? Throwing out as many bad moves as possible to fit it in all in?

I saw some girls and women help charity on the street the other day (no, I wouldn't support them) and the women hosting it were real proper fatties. Thighs like tree trunks and dressed like they're about to go out on an especially slaggy hen night. It was quite funny to see them waddle around their little stand.

Also saw a Ukraine bible thumper thing but they were women so old if they went on a hen night their hearts would give out.

It's interesting how depending on the town you go to massively changes the quality of people there. One town is nigger central, like 50% niggers and the whites are the prostitutes and druggies. Go to another and you see near zero blacks and it's all middle class people. These towns are 30 minutes apart. You can tell where they've been dumped. You can even recognise the new ones because they're waiting for a bus with 50 packets of instant noodles in a box.
She looks mixed race to me and holds herself like an angry leftist. Fucking idiots for putting her on stage without properly vetting her.

Been looking forward to it more than the Labour one. Hope one of them cries on stage.

In some actually decent news from a Labour government, the Home Secretary is going to announce tomorrow that all migrants applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain must:
  • Have volunteered in their community
  • Be employed & paying NI
  • Not be receiving benefits
  • Speak English to a high standard
  • Have no criminal record
Who says Reform are useless outside of government? It obviously won't be applied properly and I doubt anyone will get removed from the country, but the most fascinating thing here is how Keir Starmer has actually called a good chunk of this policy 'racist'.

Just goes to show, you don't need to be in power to force change, even if it's a sop to try and pacify potential reform voters. The fact that it'll lose Starmer even more support among the no borders crowd is just icing on the cake.
This achieves absolutely fuck all.

They are targeting LEGAL migration, people whom are nurses, teachers, work within scientific industries and academia etc. Do we have too much, perhaps, but these people contribute to our country in every single way, and most likely integrate well.

This policy makes our country less attractive to people who are actually worth something in terms of job prospect and paying into our economy. In an ideal world, should British citizens be the priority for these jobs, industries, absolutely, but that doesn't match reality . The chairman of the Reform party is a fucking Muslim who will do everything in his sphere of influence to make sure Muslims have priority rights as of British citizens..

Perhaps I am bias, I have many friends who fall into the category of "indefinite to leave " and they are all hard working people who integrate well into British society.

I got banned from the R/UnitedKingdom reddit so I felt this was my only option to debate/converse with logical people, apologies

Edit: Feel free to educate me, destroy my opinion etc.

Speak English to a high standard
when is this going to be applied to everything? Having a nurse in the nhs who doesn't speak a fucking lick of English is a piss take, it's difficult enough trying to understand a Geordie when you're semiconscious.
Reeves is going to 'guarantee' work placements for young people who have been out of work/education for 18 months.
The initiative builds on a "youth guarantee", announced last November, which promised every 18 to 21-year-old in England access to an apprenticeship, training, education opportunities or help to find a job.

Under the new plans, every young person who has been on Universal Credit for 18 months without "earning or learning" will be offered a guaranteed paid work placement.

Those who refuse to take up the offer without a reasonable excuse will face sanctions such as losing their benefits.
It's going to be private companies, so it will just be Tesco's hiring 'apprentices' to do full shifts for three quid an hour, and given that you can just fuck up the required job interviews for some benefits by acting like a retard to not be hired I don't know how these 'sanctions' will be judged. I'm not opposed to councils supporting more local tradies or businesses to have an apprentice (cost of everything nowadays makes it almost impossible) or going full Queer Stalin and stick kids from tyneside on farms for the 5 year plan.

I remember the last time they tried this and it was a national scandal, everyone told to do this outright refused. I'll say now what I said back then, if a company has the time and funds to train someone then they have the funds to pay them the full time equivalent. If the local council needs workers then pop them in high vis and pay them. Once upon a time this was a thing and people were actually paid extra for on top of their dole.

You got it. These will be underpaid workers shoved into low paying jobs already. So these new £3 an hour jobs will replace all the minimum wage workers.

PL almost half my college class dropped out aged 16/17 and went into ''apprenticeships'' that were just full time jobs with a 'business qualification' at the end. Nothing wrong with working a retail job but its incredibly scummy how Tescos, Superdrug and the like are allowed to exploit the low wages of apprentices when these kids are supposed to be getting actual training or qualifications.

would this be a feasible alternative nowadays? taking people off the dole is already hard when they are so used to doing fuck all all day and benefits outpays minimum wage, but is an actual local scheme for road workers (or manufacturing where it still exists) etc achievable anymore? We can always import more Umbongo to take jobs instead of giving a fuck about giving brits jobs i guess... human rights or something

Some countries in Europe do a thing where students/young people get council posts doing stuff like picking litter up out of verges, watering the planted areas etc. It gives them a way to make money and it keeps the place neat. I would be more than happy to have actual paid jobs that people can do that are beneficial to their surroundings, and that can be done a few hours a week without affecting (short term) bennies. If you’re out of work, you get benefits for a short time and can top it up pulling red bull cans out of the flower beds or whatever.
What it can’t be is cheap labour for private companies ffs. This is just MORE transferring of public tax money to private actors. Same as tax credits. Make work schemes have a place but the money and labour must stay in the public sphere. I dunno build another mccraigs folly and use it as a gladiatorial arena for politicians or something

The problem with being stuck on benefits is there's no middle ground and it takes months to get on benefits. If you depend on them to live and you go off them to try a job, find out you can't or lose the job for whatever reason you're screwed. Can you survive 3-6 months with zero income? Most people on benefits couldn't. They make it impossible to work up to a full time job and to find your limits as well. You can earn like 20 quid before they start docking your benefits. So there's no incentive to try work and find what level you can manage. It will just end up with the same amount of money either way.

The village I grew up in had one of these. Tall bloke who walked with a limp, he would wander the village once a day and clean up any litter, dog shit and take care of basic maintenance things that didn't require proper equipment. It kept the place tidy and clean for almost no cost.

Some of the scandi places it’s a popular job for students in the summer. You get wages, you’re outdoors, stick the headphone radioset on and work at your own pace. Water the trees/flower planters, trim the shrubs, etc. It seemed popular.
Done right and with dignity it’d help with the benefit cliff too. You could do say ten hours a week without it affecting your income, gain experience, prove you have certain skills. But absolutely not slave labour for bloody Tesco’s

yes this is a huge flaw with the current disability benefits, if you earn a little extra money you are at risk of losing everything, so no one wants to work at all - surely you'd want people to do what they can, whether its a 'bad back' or a severe disability, working and getting out the house is hugely beneficial anyway and helps people feel part of their community (im convinced 99% of the 'muh mental health can't work' benefits are just people who haven't gotten out the house and forgot how to interact with the public). As Kofi says theres no middle ground at all and no encouragement or reason to get off the dole.
RE The post upthread about the group who did volunteer nature trail maintenance, there needs to be a complete butchery of these fucking 'health and safety' 'hurts the environment' groups if it isnt actually an issue (tho you would have to watch out for fucking needles in some areas). Videos of volunteer litter picking, cleaning public parks, and the grafitti cleaning on the tube are huge on social media at the moment, there's one guy cleaning up areas of Birmingham, but just gets ignored by the government even when they bang on about uniting the community

Trying to clean up Birmingham? I think it's easier to remove every criminal from Hell than that. Piles of rotting rubbish every where, graffiti on all the buildings and if you go down the wrong street to clean you get chased off by a mob of brown pedophiles.

I appreciate the gesture but it's a total waste of time cleaning up there.

He has actually been stopped by browns and they tell him 'its not worth it' on a few videos. There are some who encourage/thank him (and not helping out tho of course), I'm not sure if he's from Bham because he keeps going to real shitholes like Sparkhill and Bearwood (where there's some lunatic Asian in a hi vis going around smashing up peoples faces right now, 3 possible attacks in the past week). There are a few groups, Friends of Bradford Street, Brum X, etc, who do clean ups but seems to be mostly in the city centre. One must remain a positive polly that the streets shall be swept clean and the gutters drained.

So, because a brown person said this, she is not a racist? Funny that, but this is just a carbon copy of Reform's plan but there is this thing Moomin won't remove that will negate all of this;
ECHR

It is all toothless pagentry otherwise. I heard Terry Kavenah of the Sun say Moomin is the next PM because she is so popular. I disagree; she is obsessed with Islam, biased, and her policies are toothless. I think too that this is Starmer forcing a policy to make Moomin less popular, just as the Nazis used to do this all the time to undermine opposition cabinets.

As for Reeves getting all these young people to work, well, there are only 460,000 jobs on the market, and about 2 million unemployed young people. There is also this thing in place where they have to have NI in place. Places will not employ these people because;
a) The employment rights bill would LEGALLY cover them from day 1 of even part-time work and make it impossible to sack them.
b) The NI rates the employer pays would cost three times more than their wages, making a loss.
c) Trust, in some places, you are not going to trust a black kid handling money or even talk to customers.

The thing is places like Tesco and One Stop have cut their staffing to the bone because the profit is not as high as people think. It used to be, but it is anything but.

All this shows how rudderless this government is; we already knew.

I'm going to bet she lied about the whole thing.

I hate being this cynical.
Who knows? It's not like there aren't White British rapists. But you would think if she's been through this she would feel more sympathy for the victims of the grooming gangs. And the calls for action have come about because British authorities deliberately covered for the grooming gangs and excused crimes based on ethnicity. It's not like the people there are pro-rape unless it's a Pakistani man. They're there because the latter group was specially protected.

I would fucking love to see Tik tok whores try to shame any one. Are they going to dance at me with a feather? Throwing out as many bad moves as possible to fit it in all in?
One of the saddest I saw was a Ukrainian woman lambasting her injured husband who had been captured by Russian forces, because now she wouldn't get the death benefits. She was calling him a coward for being captured and not killed.

Can you imagine your partner saying something like that? Can you imagine being that guy and seeing it online?
