A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Well, I never!

Just as an aside, this sentence made my inner grammar nazi twitch its arm a little:

There should be a comma between "father" and "and", otherwise it looks like a retard trying to say that his father was caught carrying knives. Really it should be "father, and had been caught", as the prior clause creates enough ambiguity to require restating the past perfect tense for the final element of the list.

It's a run-on sentence, too.

Journalism is now worthless.

Oh shit, Starmer is fucked. Can't see how he'll be in post for another six months at this rate.

Miliband seems to have been the person driving the weekend's awful news about Starmer/No 10/McSweeney.

Not only did Blair start the current dogpile, then it was Burnham with the leadership whispers over the weekend and then today it's been revealed that Ed Miliband has been pulling strings too. Apparently Miliband started this after Starmer tried firing him Miliband last week and Miliband rejected it and demanded to stay.

All of these figures are endorsing Lucy Powell for Deputy PM because Starmer fired her two weeks ago.

I seem to remember getting a few rainbows when I brought up Starmer bringing down his own government sooner rather than later, but here we are. He has got to be simultaneously one of the dumbest but most arrogant political operators I have ever seen. He's like the British version of Stacey Abrams.

Scotland has one big migrant immunity. It's such a miserable cold place that no one but the Scottish want to live there. With winter hitting a lot of them will catch the train to London and never be seen again. Uber eats and deliveroo will get a bunch of new drivers and no one will question anything. Hey look free houses we can put more migrants in.

Canada begs to differ.

The website appear to use people to write articles rather than AI like most websites. I find human errors refreshing in the modern age.

BBC’s AI-Generated News: Ever More Sophisticated

February 21, 2022 Joe Dysart BBC news stories written with automation are becoming ever more sophisticated, according to a piece in Columbia Journalism Review.
The UK-based media outlet started out by auto-generating about 100 simple health stories in early 2019.
But near the close of the year, the BBC was auto-generating nearly 7,000 news stories — hyperlocalized for specific British neighborhoods — on British shopping habits.

tbf the BBC doesn't employ many people whose first language is English these days

The arrogance is something I have not seen before, even as a politician..

Poll sperging (not to be confused with /pol/ sperging);

A poll by YouGov on behalf of ITV for next year's Senedd election finds PC and Reform level-pegging at around 30% each with Labour down to 14%.

Additionally, YouGov's weekly government approval tracker has set a new record for government unpopularity at a net minus 61 (11% approve, 72% disapprove).

Looking forward to the AI Pidgin articles.

Also, Reform UK are neck and neck with Plaid with the Senedd election in 2026 getting closer.

Caerphilly is also 'too close to call' with the by-election there a week today.

That orange bit, how about we dump all migrants in the Lake District if they're all so concerned about their plight? If Reform had balls they'd Martha's Vineyard a bunch of migrants to the LibDem voter regions before deporting them just to make those wooly Boomers learn a thing or two. They won't though, because they're cowards.

Wales will be setting the precedent for our incoming new political system, apparently. Roughly translated to seats:

28%+ gain for Reform is the most important here as Tories only account for roughly 14% of that. Reform are eating Labour just as much as they are the Tories.

Lib Dem areas in Wales being mainly the Vale of Glamorgan, Gower, Brecon, Monmouth and Montgomeryshire.

Reform UK would rather them not come here in the first place, but point taken.

A lot of the Woke 'be kind' people would be anything but, if their freedoms ever become curtailed.

I've not heard chatter that the Scots and now Supporting England, there is still a lot of retarded nationalism in Scotland, but I have heard they are less inclined to call them cunts.
Dear Lord, things are going that well?

The only place to dump the invaders is London.
The urban hives in general are where they ought to be deposited for later extraction.
Places like L**ds/Birmingstan/cuntchester we all know the ones, the places that would already benefit from increased liveability after the Hiroshima Nagasaki treatment, boatwogs ought to be contained within them; grey brutalist cities were never properly English anyway, bantustan that shit and leave my shires alone!

God this guy is such an idiot. I’m guessing he’s really trying to up the hard left of Labour and take over before they end up with Corbyn (what with the tranny thing as well) but does he not realise how done people are with this shit? Some what predictable article. Everyone is far right and Starmers not doing enough to stop it!!
