A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Huge slew of new appointments:

  • (4:57PM) Pat McFadden becomes Work and Pensions Secretary.
  • (5:02PM) Steve Reed as Housing Secretary.
  • (5:10PM) Peter Kyle as Business Secretary.
  • (5:20PM) Liz Kendall is Science and Technology Secretary.
  • (5:30PM) Emma Reynolds to DEFRA as new Environment, Food and Rural Affairs minister.
  • (5:30PM) Alan Campbell as Lord President of the Council and Leader of the Commons. Powell's replacement and will attend cabinet, quite rare for a LotC.
  • (5:30PM) Jonathan Reynolds (aka the guy who has constantly lied about being a solicitor) as Chief Whip.
  • (5:30PM) Douglas Alexander replacing Ian Murray as Scottish Secretary.
Reynolds and McFadden are very interesting there.

Reynolds isn't intimidating, a good operator or even a particularly good politician so having him head off backbench rebellions with what is coming is a fatal move. They need someone brutal in that role.

Huge slew of new appointments:
How much of this was intended and how much is last-minute panic appointments?

Emma Reynolds at DEFRA. She was previously a lobbyist for the city, which is likely signalling they want to turn farmland over to investor capital somehow. Maybe they're planning on seizing assets from farmers who can't pay inheritance tax, or otherwise nationalising farms that go to the wall in some way, so they can be sold off for redevelopment.

I don't have the time to look into all of these switchabout fuckers, so just give it to me straight, if our previous cabinet was "Gigantic clown shoes" what sort of shoes have we now slipped into?

It stinks of panic to me, Downing Street couldn't have known until last night that Rayner had to go with the ethics stuff.

Then again, Starmer might've known what the result would've been weeks ago and this is all planning. Since in the past year or so, Starmer is known for being an excellent political operator and a great planner.

I cannot think of a single member that can wright this ship.
Ohhh, Jeremy Corbyn.....ohhhh, Jeremy Corbyn...

You will live to see the absolute and complete collapse of two political juggernauts simply because neither of them could stand the idea of not importing infinite rapists to punish the population and to keep making number go up no matter the cost.
How does it feel?

It's hilarious. The media are already describing him as "The First Black Deputy PM".

The fact Hitler was complaining about this phenomena in the 1920s, possibly contributing to his worldview, and it's still going strong a hundred years later is so funny to me.

David Lammy as Deputy PM?

The man is genuinly retarded. I| don't mean he is not educated, or has no experience of the world, and I dont mean he has learning difficulties.

I mean he is, after being handed a very good education, a fucking moron.

It's over, not even one popular minister and some picks that will raise the hackles of the ever-present Baz threat. The Muslim as the Home Sec is just retarded, that is going to make the Chimera thrash more.

He is literally the Shheeeiiitt meme.

Lami handing over the Falklands to Argentina by the end of the week and Gibraltar to the Spanish by the end of the month.

Are we sure that Kier Starmer wasn't an accelerationist after all?
This is no longer a slow boil, it's not even a fast boil, fuck it's not even taking the frog out of the pot and holding it above the flames.
Kier Starmer has removed the frog from the pot and thrown it into a volcano.

You can't seriously be falling for the Lib-Dems-in-Centre-Right-Clothing act that the Tories do every single time? Jenrick is as Tory as they come, which is to say a left wing spastic who holds his nose to play a right wing ministral show if it's needed to get some votes.

Much like Olukemi Olufunto Adegoke Badenoch and any other Tory pretending to be right of the Lib Dems, his actions in government betray his words.

As for Andrew Bridgen, nobody wants anything to do with him. Terminal boomer brain. He's too busy falling for Indian AI slop. He's such a Facebook boomer that he makes Richard Tice look normal.
Well, that's your opinion.

Mine, and indeed that of many in Reform UK is that they would be welcome - there's even been whispers that the 'Rt. Hon. MP for the Victorian Era' (Jacob Rees-Mogg) might be joining.

For their knowledge and expertise alone, I don't personally believe that Reform UK can say no to big-hitters but they also need to secure funding - ensuring that Barclays aren't continually bombarded by angry idiots by doing a deal with them could help both.

Where Reform UK are now and where and what they'll be in 2030 are two different entities altogether - think of it in the same way Wrexham FC have bought in and got rid of players over the past five years... Reform UK need good people to take us forward but even they have to be replaced and be replaceable, and yes that includes Nigel as well - it cannot be a one-person party like the Tories under Thatcher or Labour under Blair as that would lead to schisming from day one.

Also, I think 2027 may itself be optimistic for a GE, and talking with some ITK's recently the belief is a GE could come around a lot sooner if the Government can no longer function and if Starmer's pompous ego gets the better of him. He is surrounded by idiots who are not being bossed by him but Blair, and if he decides to take on Blair and to remove those controlled by Tony then he will lose badly.

Knowing this, and that he's defeated whichever way he turns, going for a snap GE is not out of the question - factor in the bleed-out of Labour MP's to Jezbollah, his ostracisation by Trump and that his enemies within the party have a reason to ditch the dirt on him and the petty spats will soon become a full blown civil war.

Oh, and Unions defecting to supporting Jezbollah fill financially cripple the party as well.

The week after the Conference talks are done is going to be key.
